minnie
Well, I just arrived back to school Sunday night after spending time with my family and today (Monday) my mother was admitted to the hospital. She went in for chemo this morning and the nurse had to call 911 because she was red, sweating, had very labored breathing and very low blood pressure. She was taken to ER and admitted. They did a chest scan and X-ray to see if there were any clots and are also checking to see if she had an allergic reation to the chemo (carbo/taxol). Regardless of the outcome of the scan, her doctor has decided to suspend chemo treatments and proceed only with radiation for the next 6 weeks. I noticed that there were a few others that had posted info about allergic reactions to the same chemo combination. Before this bout, she had been complaining of alternating hot flashes and chills. No temperature was ever comfortable for her. I wonder if that had anything to do with the chemo. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Minnie Mother diagnosed Sept. 2002 with inoperable Stage 3B adenocarcinoma

Don Wood
Minnie, I defintely will pray for your mom and you. She could have an infection or by dehydrated. My wife experienced both when she was going through chemo and radiation at the same time. Blessings. Don
minnie
I'm breathing a sigh of relief. I talked to my mom around noon today. No clots in her lungs or legs. Her doctor really thinks that she had an allergic reaction. No more chemo though. She's in good spirits and using a lot of humor to get her through. Hopefully she gets to go home today. Thanks for the words of support. Minnie

Peggy H
Minnie - My sister had a severe allergic reaction (just as you described your mom's) the first time she had carbo/taxol. She started taking steroids the day BEFORE chemo, as well as with premeds WITH chemo time & never had another reaction. Hope your Mom does okay. teetlee
Hi Minnie, Glad to hear your mom just had a reaction and is doing better. I'm glad you were able to talk to her and ease your fears. Prior to my first carbo/taxol I was given steroids and benedryl just in case I were to have a reaction. Also it was given in the hospital as a precaution. I hadn't had any history of reactions but I was glad they took precautions. Teet
