Unhappy Update

The last time I posted I had questions about my dad's chest pain. Well when he went to the doctor, they did an EKG and and blood work. The doctor also gave my dad some antibiotics for a small case of pneomonia. A chest xray is scheduled for this Thursday. Right now though, that pain (which is very small) is the least of my concern at this time. For the last two days, my dad has been complaining about lower back pain and complete loss of appetite. I hate to see this. He's also been incredibly fatigued for the last couple of weeks. He just started to take percocet again to combat the pain in his back, but it has failed so far. My mom will be calling the doctor tomorrow with these latest concerns. I just hope the cancer hasn't spread to his bones. I'm just very concerned.

HI Amanda,

I'm sorry all of this is happening to your dad!

It does sound like a scan is in order to see if he has any mets. Bone mets can be treated with radiation and zometa of course there will be others who have personal experience who can better advise on bone mets. But I am hoping the scans don't show any for your dad.

As for appetite loss, perhaps asking the doctor about appetite enhancing Rx would help. My dad took a prescription called Megace. It helped him tremendously.

Fatigue can be caused by many things. Treatment is very hard on the body. Medications to help with pain cause fatigue as well as not getting the nutrition the body needs.

I'm keeping your dad in my thoughts for good scans and some relief for his pain soon. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hugs,
