    Celebrate

Kasey, Congrats to you. Hoping and praying for nothing but the best for you and Fred. You were a true inspiration during a very trying time in life. We love you. Best of luck and good health always. I hope to be celebrating too, in April......next CT scan. One year after surgery. Bill & Char
  3. Congrats to my surgery partner. Wonderful news. I go for my first scan in April. Not nervous yet but as it gets closer I'm sure I will be. Get the chest X-ray every three months and so far so good. Happy New Year and many, many more clear scans. Bill in PA
  4. Did you get into Sloan-Kittering??
  5. You need to get copies of all reports to insure you know what type of cancer you are dealing with. When I was diagnosed I insisted on copies of all reports just for my own records and satisfaction. Good luck and please keep us informed. There is a great deal of help on these boards.
  6. I know it is frustrating but all these tests and sometimes re-tests (which I had some twice before surgery)are necessary. If you are diagnosed with non-small cell I can tell you the tumor grows very slowly so you do not need to be too concerned about that. What concerns me is them saying they don't do too many lung cancer surgeries. I see you are in NY. You should try to get into Sloan-Kittering in Manhatten or Fox Chase in Philadelphia. I live in a small town area where they do not do a lot of cancer surgery and I opted to go to Fox Chase where that is all they do everyday. My feelings were that this is serious stuff and I want someone operating on me that has done it many times before. My surgeon at Fox Chase, I was told by a Oncologist in my home town, was one of the best in the USA. Needless to say I was very happy about that comment. My surgery was a success and I am currently cancer free after six months. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me. See my profile for my time frames between diagnosis and the actual surgery. I was diagnosed in early february and surgery was not until April 20th. I can tell you my mental state was out of control during that period. I was a nervous wreck and scard to death. Believe me you are not alone. God bless you and things will work out. If you need help we are all here and available.
  7. I too was very scared. I had my lower right removed. The surgery was not as bad as I expected. The recovery period was 6-8 weeks for me and the hardest part was the surgeon said I could do nothing but rest. I'm an active guy and that was tough. I still have a very slight paid in my back and shoulder, 6 months after my surgery but i feel great. You will get through it. God bless you and here's hoping for a total recovery. Where are you getting the surgery done?? bill in PA
  8. It's a little hard at first but it gets easier as time goes by.
  9. I try not to think about it in between testing. I tend to keep myself busy but when it gets close to test time, about a week before, then all the scary thoughts go thru my head until I find out the results. I am sure we all go through this in different ways but keeping active and busy helps me keep it out of my mind.
  10. If your Dad just had surgery on Aug 25 I wouldn't worry about the appitite for a while. I am a 59 year old male and love to eat but when I had my surgery on April 20th of this year (Lower Lobectomy) I had no appitite and the acid reflux for two months. Nexium cured the reflux but the pain meds killed my appitite for quite some time. Now, after the two months I got my appitite back and am pretty much back to normal eating wise. So Give it a little time. Is he on pain meds??? They really do kill your appitite.
  11. I had some problems eating when I had the acid reflux and stomach problems all the time. It lasted at least two months. Dr put me on the Little Purple Pill (NEXIUM) and it worked after about four weeks. It is now 5 months since my surgery and I can eat anything and it all tastes good.
  12. Congrats my friend and many, many more. You need to go out and celebrate......

    Race for the cure

Did the race ( my wife and i WALKED!!too old to run) for the cure (Breast Cancer) here in Scranton Pa this past weekend. 8000.00 runners and walkers all donating at least $20.00 per person and some donated much more. What a great feeling to see 8000 people supporting and hoping for a cure to this terrible disease. With support like this lets hope a cure is coming soon. Just wanted to let you all know there is a lot of support here in NE Pennsylvania.

    Good friend

Lost a very dear friend Wednesday to colon cancer. He was never much of a computer guy so he never saw this site. Just wanted to say how very painful it is to lose someone so very close. He was quite a few years older than me but always provided me with excellent advise on life's problems. I will miss him very much. he was like a father to me. God bless you Jerry.
  18. Well, my little 3% raise I got this year isn't enough to pay for the increase in gas prices for the next year........Guess I'll have my wife work some overtime.....
  19. Just paid $3.67 here in NE PA for high test in my car. My V8 pickup gets about 12 MPG. About $50.00 to fill that animal. Hopefully it will come down somewhat after the holiday weekend. not planning on it though

  21. Hi Pam, Just to let you know we all go through what you have been just through. I too, was 1a, had successful surgery and go for the chest x-ray every three months and the CAT every six. Don't even think about it until the day before and I immediately become a nervous wreck. So far I have had 2 x-rays and one CAT and they have all been good. So you are not alone. Here's hoping for the best in all your future x-rays and dcans. Bill in PA
