  1. Astragalus REPORT By Ernie Puckett This is a report on one of many supplements that I take. Each report will contain: What it is, How I think it helped me. Dosage I take, with links to info on dosage if available. What I would recommend to my children to take as a supplement A link to The Sloan Kettering site if the supplement is listed there. You may have to agree to the conditions then click on the first letter of supplement, and scroll down to the supplement. If you have already been to this web site before it will take you right to the supplement. Some supplements may interfere with chemotherapy or radiation. This site is a good source for that information Other interesting web sites where I found valuable information, with links to research Brand name and manufacture and link to where I purchase the product. This is the best price I have found. Most of the web sites are also selling a product and may be bias, but they still contain good information. The Sloan Kettering site has no interest in selling products and I consider this unbiased. By reviewing this report and the clicking links you should be able to make an intelligent decision whether this is something you want to take. For additional information you can Google the supplement in your browser. ALL SUPPLEMENTS/HERBS SHOULD BE CHECKED WITH YOU DOCTORS BEFORE YOU START TO TAKE THEM. I showed all of mine to my oncologist. Don’t forget to add the most important item_ PRAYER Astragalus is one of the supplements that I take. Astragalus is a Chinese herb. I take Astragalus Supreme. This contains Chinese Astragalus Supreme, Chinese Schizandra Berry, and Chinese Ligustrum Berry. The next two reports will be on these other two herbs. How I think it helped me, I think it may strengthen the immune system, hard to measure. What I take today, 1520mg a day 760mg before breakfast, 760mg between lunch and dinner. What I would suggest that my children take as a supplement, could be one that they may like to take. I think one or two of the immune building supplements that I take would be enough for someone that is not treating cancer. What is Astragalus? http://www.hepatitis-c.de/astragal.htm Dosage, This varies from 1 to 25 g. 2. Love that good news and welcome home. Stay positive, Ernie
  3. Welcome to the site. You will get a lot of support here. It sounds like your husband is doing well. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  4. It seems to me that they should have determined that it was inoperable before they opened him up. I had Carboplatin, Taxol and Tarceva. Taxotere/Cisplatin and Avastin are also used a lot Avastin may be favored more than Tarceva now. I had good results with Tarceva. I would defiantly get a second opinion from one of the larger cancer centers like Sloan Kettering in New York or M.D. Anderson in Houston. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  5. THAT'S GREAT NEWS! Stay positive, Ernie
  6. Suzette, I can't imagine that they would go forward without more discussion. Did someone go with her to each appointment? If you don't take someone with you, you can miss a lot. I would want a chance for a second opinion before starting. Stay positive, Ernie
  7. Rod, Welcome. It sounds like you have the right attitude to make it to 80 and beyond. You seem to already know all that I would say to do. Stay positive, Ernie
  8. Welcome to the site. When they get through with all the test you will know more and may want to consider a second opinion. All cancers are treatable. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  9. Will, Sorry to hear about your wife. One of the best thngs you can do is to be part of her team to beat the disease. I allways recommend a second opinion. You never know what that can do for you till you do it. My second opinion confirmed that we were doing the right treatment and that meant a lot. Stay positive, Ernie
  10. Gail, Welcome to the site. I never had surgery, so I can't help you with that, but there are many here that have. I see you already have some good replies. Stay positive, Ernie

  12. You can copy and paste each supplement report into an e-mail. Then e-mail it to yourself or e-mail me and I will send you all back reports and all future reports. Then follow directions below How to make the most out of the reports This is how to do it in Outlook. There should be a similar way in other e-mail programs. 1 Create a folder named SUPPLEMENTS. 2. Move the folder to Favorites by right clicking on folder and select Add to favorites. This makes it easier to find. 3. Place all reports as you receive them into the SUPPLEMENT folder. 4. Select arrange by SUBJECT for that folder. This gives you a nice reference in alphabetical order. How to add new links to existing reports. 1. Copy and paste entire supplement report into a new e-mail. Make sure that you put the title in the subject box. 2. Add the new links that you want to use for future research. Make sure you put a heading of what the link is if it does not come under one of the existing headings. 3. Now e-mail this to yourself. 4. Replace the existing report with the new one. How to add your own reports of different supplements. 1. Just e-mail the report to your self making sure you have the title in the subject box. You now have a place to go that is easy to use. You just have to click on the web addresses in each report. Eliminates the need to cut and paste addresses into your browser. This has been a big help to me. I hope it works for you. You may want to save this e-mail in case you send the reports to a friend. You can also have your friend send me their e-mail and I will send all back reports and add them to the mail out. Stay positive, Ernie

  18. I have started a new series of posts on the Nutrition Forum. I will be doing a short report with links on each Supplement/Herb that I take. The intent is to keep each thread about just the one item. If you care to post comments about that supplement, feel free to do so. Any comments that do not pertain to that item should be posted in a new thread. If they are posted under the wrong item they will be removed. We want it to be a place a person can come and find out about that item and that item only. A lot of newly diagnosed people suffer from an overload of information and they have told me by getting one thing at a time is a great help for them. Anyone that would like to be added to my email list and receive an email of each report let me know by sending me an email. It works real nice if you save each email in a folder for reference and you will not miss any reports. Sending them by PM does not work. Each report will have the name of the item followed by Ernie Example “AHCC by Ernie” The first two are posted AHCC and Turmeric/Curcumin. Check them out and if you want the rest by e-mail let me know, we hope this will make it easier to learn about these supplements. Stay positive, Ernie
  19. You asked a lot of questions at once. One of them is smoking. I stopped smoking 35 years ago and they consider me a heavy smoker in their reports today. Since I can not find any doctor that can tell me what causes cancer, I have come up with my own opinion. I don’t think age has as much to do with it as ones general health and the ability of their immune system to fight off disease. It is well known that everybody produces potential cancer cells. I believe this goes on until for what ever reason the immune system will no longer kill off the cancer cells. At that point they start to go wild and multiply. Older people generally have a lower immune system as they grow older. Their blood may not be as thin and their circulation not as good. I have noticed that a lot of the newer cancer drugs also cause your blood to thin. This will increase your circulation. This will also increase more oxygen going to the cancer cells and cancer cells do not like oxygen. I think the onset of cancer comes when the immune system drops below the level of what it takes to kill off all the cancer cells. If we could jack the immune system way up right away then we may be able to get rid of the cancer. How fast we will be able to bring the immune system to where it can kill off the cancer cells again will depend on how far your immune system has dropped. Some people will be able to bring their immune system up and some may not. Surgery and radiation will remove or kill the cancer. Chemo will affect tumors throughout the body. Once the tumors have been eliminated we have gotten rid of the cancer, but we have done nothing about getting rid of the cause. If we go back to the exact same life style I would think that the cancer returning is good. Here are some of the things that I think can affect the immune system: Age, diet, stress, exercise, supplements, and many others. Stress I think can be a big factor. The good thing about stress is we can work on eliminating it some times. Smoking replaces oxygen in your lungs so that is a negative. You can’t be sucking in smoke and expect to get the same oxygen level. Can you survive cancer and smoke? Maybe. If you want the best chance of beating cancer then I think it is wise to do all you can. I had a lot of stress before my cancer. It was eliminated by selling my business and getting rid of all the responsibility to running a sizable company. I think the supplements add to my chances of survival, but I can’t tell you which one does the most. When I think about my cancer I am very puzzled. I am stage IV and I have not had any symptoms or bad days yet. It has been 22 months since diagnosed. What has helped me may help others immune system but it may not be enough to bring it up to the level that it will fight the cancer successfully. I have heard that 50% of cancer patients have some other major health problem to begin with. That alone can make a big difference. As far as your concern about smoking, I would not want to keep smoking with the thought that it may keep me from reaching that point where I could fight the cancer successfully. The big thing for me is prayer. I thank the Lord for all that the things my doctors, drugs, chemo. And supplements do for me. Thanks for making me think. I keep trying to figure out what I have done that others can do. I have checked around and some of the things I take are common to other survivors, but we are all starting at different starting points as far as our general health is concerned. Stay positive, Ernie

It is purported to boosts the immune system and reduce the side effects of chemo. I actually started taking it a couple of months before I was diagnosed. I took 3 grams a day. When I was diagnosed I increased it to 6 grams per day. There were no restrictions. After chemo (Carboplatin and Taxol) I went back to 3 grams a day. I thought I had noticed some slight side effects. I went back to 6 grams a day and no side effects. I then realized that I was still on chemo because I was still taking Tarceva 100mg. I will go back to 3 grams when I stop the Tarceva. 22. Flyboy, From what you describe it sounds like aggressive treatment. I would just ask the doctor right out, “is this the most aggressive treatment?” I think one doctor may call a treatment palliative and another won’t. Sometimes you just have to ask them what they mean. Stay positive, Ernie
  23. Barb, If Harry has those symptoms he needs to get his butt to a hospital. It may be nothing, but sitting on your butt, you will never know. I guess cancer does not stop us from being stubborn. It sounds like some stunt I might do, but I think my wife would prevail. If not for him tell him to do it for you. Stay positive, Ernie
  24. Jamie, Tarceva 100mg since August 2005, but you knew that. We are kind of out here in nomans land. Stay positive, Ernie
  25. Perry, I saw your log in a couple of months ago. I am glad you came back. I think you will enjoy this site. I still go back to others sites every day. There are old friends back there like you and Don. I really have started that email. going to go work on it now. Ride that HOG! Stay positive, Ernie
