  1. Teri, Thanks for the update. Tell Bill that I continue to pray for him, and you know I believe in miracles. Stay positive, Ernie
  2. Ligustrum Berry REPORT By Ernie Puckett This is a report on one of many supplements that I take. Each report will contain: What it is, How I think it helped me. Dosage I take, with links to info on dosage if available. What I would recommend to my children to take as a supplement A link to The Sloan Kettering site if the supplement is listed there. You may have to agree to the conditions then click on the first letter of supplement, and scroll down to the supplement. If you have already been to this web site before it will take you right to the supplement. Some supplements may interfere with chemotherapy or radiation. This site is a good source for that information Other interesting web sites where I found valuable information, with links to research Brand name and manufacture and link to where I purchase the product. This is the best price I have found. Most of the web sites are also selling a product and may be bias, but they still contain good information. The Sloan Kettering site has no interest in selling products and I consider this unbiased. By reviewing this report and the clicking links you should be able to make an intelligent decision whether this is something you want to take. For additional information you can Google the supplement in your browser. ALL SUPPLEMENTS/HERBS SHOULD BE CHECKED WITH YOU DOCTORS BEFORE YOU START TO TAKE THEM. I showed all of mine to my oncologist. Don’t forget to add the most important item_ PRAYER Ligustrum Berry is one of the supplements that I takeLigustrum lucidum is a Chinese medicinal plant that is often used in combination with other herbs in botanical formulas. I only take this because it is one of the herbs in Astragalus Supreme. This contains Chinese Astragalus Supreme, Chinese Schizandra Berry, and Chinese Ligustrum Berry. How I think it helped me, I think it may help with immune system... What I take today, 480mg a day 240mg before breakfast, 240mg between lunch and dinner. I take this because it is part of Astragalus Supreme. What I would suggest that my children take as a supplement, I think that Astragalus Supreme could be one that they may like to take. I think one or two of the immune building supplements that I take would be enough for someone that is not treating cancer. What is Ligustrum Berry http://www.randalls.com/wellness/health ... 3. You can not accept what the doctors predict. I was told that last January would be tops for me. All of their prognoses are based on history. R. A. Bloch said that there was not a cancer that someone has not beaten. If you have not read his book, I would get it. It may give you a lot of new fight. Go to this web address and click on the links to get the book or phone for a free copy. http://www.blochcancer.org/articles/letter.html What good would it do me to ask my doctors for a prognosis? They already told me January, 2007. Now is the time to keep fighting and praying. I will be praying that the treatment will remove the cancer from David. I would contact M. D. Anderson and see if there is something new that they may know about. Stay positive, Ernie
  4. With God’s help I would like to control it so that the many people that have it could either be cured or live to a ripe old age with a high quality of life while the cancer is kept under control. Stay positive, Ernie

  6. The best person to answer your questions is your oncologist. She has them there and can compare them to previous ones. The report you quoted talked about an increase, so they must be comparing them to a previous scan. When the previous scan was taken would be important to know. I would get hold of your oncologist for clarification. If you still have doubt you may want to consider a second opinion. It could be scar tissue. Having Tarceva instead of a clinical trial may not be so bad. It could be better than a clinical trial. My choice would be Tarceva over a clinical trial, but I am a little partial. Stay positive, Ernie
  7. Fighting Cancer by R. A. Bloch is a book that will help anyone with their fight to beat cancer. It is not a religious book, but it will give one the hope needed to survive. He was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and told that he had three months to live. He chose to fight for his life and was declared cancer-free two years later. 26 years later he died in of heart failure, not cancer. http://www.blochcancer.org/articles/letter.html You can read the book on line or get a free copy. Stay positive, Ernie
  8. Neil, I have been on Tarceva for 22 months I never had any thing like that, but we are all different. I can't help thinking some of the supplements help, but I can't say which one. Stay positive, Ernie
  9. Debra, That's great. I pray that the Tarceva will put you into complete remission like it did me. Stay positive, Ernie
  10. Tracy, Fighting cancer is a constant battle. You have to do what is best for you. I like the 4 words in your last paragraph “I’M NOT GIVING UP”. It must hurt when you don’t get the support you expect from some of your family. With cancer there are times when you have to be selfish and do whatever it takes to survive. I would take all the support from all of your friends. If they will do things for you that your family won’t, let them. You need to spend all of your energy on one thing and that’s beating this disease. Lots of us here consider you as part of the family. We are huge and we have lots of prayer warriors that will be praying for you. Don’t hesitate to call on us. We will do what ever we can. Stay positive, Ernie
  11. It is true that the damage is already done, but it is also true that you can do more damage. The more oxygen in your blood the better it is not only to fight cancer but for general health. When you smoke you are replacing that oxygen with smoke. Maybe he thinks he can’t beat the cancer. I would suggest that you go to this web site and get a free copy of a book called Fighting Cancer. If he reads this and believes in what it says, he will quit smoking without anyone asking him to. http://www.blochcancer.org/articles/letter.html Stay positive, Ernie (smoker for 20 years)
  12. Sandy, I did not have SCLC, but I did have chemo, I took the actual bottles of all the supplements that I wanted to take to my oncologist. He took the time to read each label. If he thought that it would do no harm, he said take it if you want. He only found one thing that he did not want me to take. Then when I added a lot more after two cycles of chemo, he asked that I not take the new ones within 24 hours of the chemo. I think some doctors just don’t want to be bothered, so they say take nothing. Stay positive, Ernie
  13. Nova, Sorry to hear that Harry is having such a bad time with Carboplatin. Carboplatin was one of the drugs that I had. I had no trouble with any of them. I wish I could tell you if any of theses things I took helped, but I can't. I know you have heard that lots of water is a must. I go for that 8oz every hour I awake. Then I get lots of exercise during the night going back and forth. Stay positive, Ernie

Lily, With your attitude and determination, you will be around for a long time. I love your positive outlook. Stay positive, Ernie
  15. Neil, Thanks, that is a better link. Supplementation is important to me because I have had multiple skin cancers including one squamous cell. In Florida we have more direct sun rays than I can handle. I did check back and found that I was taking at least 1000mg of D3 with the calcium that I was taking. Stay positive, Ernie
  16. Welthy, I post information under general to reach the most people. My only goal is to help the most people with their fight with cancer. I had not read the part that followed the story that I wanted to post. This was my error. I edited it so that it does not interfere with the message and that is that this may help. Stay positive, Ernie
  17. Because it was meant to be general information. Why else? Stay positive, Ernie
  18. I did not mean to get everyone upset. I read only the study part of the web page. It was the same story that was in our local newspaper this morning. The comments that followed we have all heard before some of them are just the opinion of a few. There may or may not have any merit. Trails with supplements are few and far between. Unfortunately there is little profit in testing supplements. I think that it is worth noting that in China they use some Chinese herbs along with modern day chemo. The most important in the study is that vitamin D and Calcium may help and there is no proof that it will do any harm. Stay positive, Ernie
  19. I am glad you found the site. You will get a lot of support here. Keep us posted as you learn more. Stay positive, Ernie
  20. Copy and pasted from News Target web site "New research shows vitamin D slashes risk of cancers by 77 percent. Exciting new research conducted at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Nebraska has revealed that supplementing with vitamin D and calcium can reduce your risk of cancer by an astonishing 77 percent. This includes breast cancer, colon cancer, skin cancer and other forms of cancer. This research provides strong new evidence that vitamin D is the single most effective medicine against cancer, far outpacing the benefits of any cancer drug known to modern science. The study involved 1,179 healthy women from rural Nebraska. One group of women was given calcium (around 1500 mg daily) and vitamin D (1100 IU daily) while another group was given placebo. Over four year, the group receiving the calcium and vitamin D supplements showed a 60 percent decrease in cancers. Considering just the last three years of the study reveals an impressive 77 percent reduction in cancer due to supplementation. (The full press release of this study is included below. It provides more details about the findings.) Note that these astonishing effects were achieved on what many nutritionists consider to be a low dose of vitamin D. Exposure to sunlight, which creates even more vitamin D in the body, was not tested or considered, and the quality of the calcium supplements was likely not as high as it could have been (it was probably calcium carbonate and not high-grade calcium malate, aspartate or similar forms). What does all this mean? It means that if you take high-quality calcium supplements and get lots of natural sunlight exposure or take premium vitamin D supplements (such as those made from fish oil), you could easily have a greater reduction than the 77 percent reduction recorded in this study." I have removed the original link that went to this story, because it contained additional controversial information that I had not read before posting and I don't think this is the place for it. This came from the News Target web site. If anyone is that interested in the other comments they can go there. Stay positive, Ernie
  21. THAT'S GREAT! Stay positive, Ernie
  22. Gail, I did not have surgery but, I have done a lot of asking about why chemo after surgery. From what I can tell is the difference between stage 1 and stage IIIb or IV is if the cancer has spread. Unfortunately the cancer could possibly have spread and not be detected. Surgery or radiation only gets rid of the tumor that is in question. Chemo is the only treatment that may kill cancer cells that can not be detected. So if it were me I would always choose to do the chemo as a precaution. Stay positive, Ernie
  23. Fighting Cancer by H. R. Bloch is a book that I did not read till after I was in remission. What was so amazing to me is that I had done just about everything that he has written in this book and I thought the same way about my cancer. I just recently discovered this link that will lead a newly diagnosed cancer patient to a wealth of information. I am posting it here so that everyone can copy it and send it to anyone they know that they think it will help. Here is the web address that will take you to a letter written by R. A. Bloch. He was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and told that he had three months to live. He chose to fight for his life and was declared cancer-free two years later. 26 years later he died in of heart failure, not cancer. http://www.blochcancer.org/articles/letter.html From this web site you can get a free copy of Fighting Cancer and get a list of places to get good second opinions. I think this book is a must for anyone interested in beating this disease. It may help a caregiver to know, but unless the patient gets involved in his or her’s cure it will do little good. Stay positive, Ernie
  24. Will, I think the second opinion would be a good idea. I had Carboplatin and Taxol with good results. I think Fighting Cancer by H. R. Bloch is a good guide to fighting cancer. I have found a good link to go to that should help any new cancer patient with their battle. Here is a web address that will take you to a letter written by R. A. Bloch. He was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and told that he had three months to live. 25. Tag. You have had two scans with no growth. That's great. Once they find something to watch they will watch. Think of it as going every few months to confirm that nothing is wrong. There are thousands of people with nodules who do not even know they nave them. They could be caused by a lot of things besides cancer. Stay positive, Ernie
