Four years and many more to come. The Lord is GOOD! Stay positive, Ernie
  3. Farrah, Welcome, sorry to hear about your dad. Sometimes getting a second opinion is a great help to give you assurance that you are getting the best treatment. Radiation and chemo can be too much for some people. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  4. I do not know Rich yet, but it dosn't stop me from praying for him. An extra prayer for Rich tonight. Stay positive, Ernie
  5. Donna, I plan to spend more than one day there, but if I had one day there and was coming back after, I would ask God what more I can do to spread his word on earth and what could I do to help people with cancer. I do feel that my cancer is answer to prayer, but at times I do not know what to say to people who are hurting so bad. Stay positive, Ernie
  6. Gerald welcome, A second opinion is always a good idea. Here are a couple of web sites that may help you find a good place for a second opinion. Stay positive, Ernie List of places by state that give second opinions http://www.blochcancer.org/articles/xtrnew.asp Top 50 cancer center rated by US News for 2006 http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/bes ... hqcanc.htm

  9. May we always give hope to those in need. Stay positive, Ernie
  10. I had Carboplatin, Taxol and Tarceva. Tarceva is also a targeted drug like Avastin. I had no bad side effects and very good results. Stay poitive, Ernie
  11. I had Tarceva, Carboplatin and Taxol all at once, so there is no way to know for sure what made the cancer go away. M oncologist said it was the chemo, Tarceva, or Divine intervention. I go with the later. They plan to keep me on Tarceva for 2 years (August 2007). My first scan was 2 months into my treatment. I had a 30% reduction in tumor size, 70% reduction of pleural effusion and 90% reduction of all other nodules. At 4 months there was nothing but scar tissue. I have been NED for over a year. Praise the Lord! I also take a lot of supplements and herbs. Hope this help you. Stay positive, Ernie
  12. Dar, Would your mom use the computer and come on to this site and read about some of us here? She may be able to help others. This can become a very positive thing for one that is fighting cancer. There are a lot of people here for her to communicate with. It sounds like she needs something to get her motivated. Stay positive, Ernie
  13. Tracy, Avastin is just another form of chemo, so don't worry about being off chemo. I stopped the drip, drip, drip, in November 2005 but stayed on Tarceva that is also a targeted drug. I am doing fine and I am sure you will too. Stay positive, Ernie
  14. Sounds great, How do you place an order? Ernie
  15. Welcome, Glad you found us. Keep us posted and ask questions. Stay positive, Ernie
  16. Raney, I had good results with Tarceva, lets pray that you do too. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  17. Welcome back, The more survivors that we have that are willing to share, the more hope we can give to others. Stay positive, Ernie
  18. Welcome, You came to the right place. There are a lot of survivors here. Maybe you could share a little more info about yourself, and do a profile. Stay positive, Ernie
  19. Beth, Your mom may be able to be treated successfully without surgery. I had only chemo and I am now cancer free. My quality of life during chemo was as good as or better than before I was diagnosed. You mom may not have a bad reaction to chemo. Tarceva and Avastin have fewer side effects than traditional chemo. I had both traditional and Tarceva and I never had a sick day. It’s important that your mom knows the options that may cure her. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  20. Jackie, You can’t believe any doctors estimate on how long one will live. I had stage IV. I was told that without treatment that I should go to Hospice. I was told with treatment that it would be 16 to 18 months. Well this month is my 16th month and I am cancer free. My oncologist does not give predictions he gives treatment that he believes will keep you alive. I like that. Since I will turn 70 in March, 73 still seems young to me. Best you can do for your mom is to keep in touch and pray a lot. You might ask if she has gotten a second opinion. Let us know when you know more about her treatment. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. We have lots of knowledge on this site. Stay positive, Ernie
  21. I do not know how old your mother is. Unfortunately there are some doctors that do not do all that can be done for older patients. If you have not done so I would get a second opinion. It should be from a well know cancer treatment center that is not affiliated with the group of doctors that your mom is now going to. You need to find a doctor that will treat her and believe that there is a chance of healing her. There is not one cancer that at least someone has not been cured from. Maybe you could find out and let us know more about the type of cancer your mom has, type, stage etc. There are many people here that have been told there is no hope. They just don’t believe that and find a doctor that has hope. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  22. Being scared is normal. By going to your treatment you can find out more and better plan on the way you will beat this. I had no surgery and my tumor is nothing but scar tissue. From stage IV to scar tissue to NED (no evidence of disease). So start thinking how you are going to make your tumor become scar tissue. None of us cancer or no cancer knows what is going to happen to us when we get up each morning. Just think of each day is bringing you one day closer to being healed. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  23. Welcome Stephanie, It is very hard at first and not knowing what is to come next. When you get the results of all the tests, you can then start planning on how your dad is going to beat this. Regardless of the test results, I am a very strong advocate of getting a second opinion from a well know cancer treatment center. In my case they agreed completely with my doctors and I returned home for treatment. Just to get the reassurance that I was doing the right thing made it well worth getting the second opinion. Keep us posted. Stay positive, Ernie
  24. Welcome Teri, Any thing we can do just ask. Stay positive, Ernie
