  1. Stay strong and stay positive.. we are all here for you. I will pray for you and your family. God Bless you Christy
  2. My dad was the same way.. he got so mad over the littlest things.. it was so frustrating to see him so mad all the time. To me i just figured that he was just so upset that he had cancer that he took it out on everyone. He is off chemo now and he has returned to his normal self. I guess he came to exceptance kinda... its difficult to stay happy when going through all this. So i would say its reasonably normal. God Bless Christy
  3. I am here too.. you can write me anytime you need anything... we are all friends here who understand. I know you love Chris very much and that will never change just know that he knows that and he is always with you. You are healing right now and it all takes time. We are here for you though. God bless you Christy
  4. Terre I just wanted to add a post and say that i read a wonderful article about your mother in the friday edition of the omaha world herald. I wanted to scan the article so everyone here on this board could read it also. I hope you recieved my email from the other day and I hope that the family is comforting and your dad is at ease. Write me when you can I understand. Bless you and your family Christy

I very much reccommend getting this mailed to you or your friend it has all you need to know. Christy
  6. My dad was dx stage IIIb in Oct 2002 and went through chemo and radiation and had a scan last month and it seems to have not spread elsewhere. You have to get a positive mind set your mind and prayers can do miraculous things... belive me. God bless
  7. Oh thank goodness Peg.. Its so wonderful to hear that there are still options and people that really care and want to try anything to beat this. god Bless you and your husband I will pray for the best! Christy
  8. When they saw my dads tumor they thought it was scar tissue also from a previous lung procedure.. They wont know until they do a biopsy to find out if it is a tumor or not... Unfortunatly it all looks the same on the scan. Blessings to you and your family
  9. I just sent a prayer your way and I will add many more to that. I hope there is another option for him. Keep believing in those miracles. I will.. God Bless you and your family
  10. My dad is also a stage IIIb it supposedly hasnt spread either but it is in the lymph nodes around the lung region. He was dx last year and went though chemo and radiation. It seems the combination of drugs had dramatically improved his lifestyle.. we keep praying everyday. God Bless you and your brother. =)

  13. Okay there is more... the doctor told him that the tumor is still there and will not shrink anymore and that he believes it is still in him lymph nodes. And that it will come back anytime because he believes the cancer is somewhere but hasnt shown up yet. So does this mean my dad is really a stage IV but never told him of a restaging.? I dont get this disease... or the doctor.!! Im so upset i feel like crying right now.. I dont understand
  14. And another thing that makes me mad is that my dad believes him.. and i said that that doctor is dumb and has no idea what hes doing.. and my dad wont listen to me cuz hes the doctor. Help me with info for him.. It is just so unfair.
  15. Im not posting in the good news because im so upset right now because the doctor doesnt even consider it good news. Get this... my dads scans are clean and was told that the cancer has not spread and he instead has a crushed vertebrae. So my dad asked if he could have Iressa and the doctor told him that Iressa is only for breast and colon cancer and does not work for lung cancer. Then he told him that he has never heard of such a thing as maintence program or drugs for him.. Then he told him to come back in 3 months and if the cancer has spread then there is no futher treatment options for him.. $%^$@! I dont understand.. hes not even going to do anything for him so whats the point of wasting money and insurance checkin on it every 3mos? I told my dad to switch doctors and then throw a lawsuit against them since the scarred his lung and needs oxygen and now the back is messed up maybe caused by the radiation also... What do you guys think about this... Very confussed and upset all your advice is greatly appreciated. Love Christy
  16. Yay! Keep up the positive attitude. It so nice to hear you so upbeat and happy! I wish you the best to stay strong and motivated throughout the rest of the treatment. God bless you.
  17. I just sent a special prayer your way. I remember when my dad got pneumonia and he had to be in ICU also. But ICU is the best care because you know their every need is tended to and they are watched over all the time. It takes time to heal and i will continue to pray for you both. God bless you. Christy
  18. My eyes are filled with tears as i type.. you cant help but to feel something beings through our stories we learn to know each other. And everyones battle touches your heart. Us and God will give you the strength and ease your pain. Bless you and your family.
  19. When my dad was first dx the doc had told me that maybe it was better for my dad to live his quality of life instead of going though all the chemo and trauma. but he did anyways and it is one year later he has been w/o chemo and radiation for 8 mos now. My dad is 59. Anyone can beat the fight against cancer and you wont know unless you try. I have faith now because of all these wonderful people on this site I pray for everyone here everynight.. and know that miracles do happen just never lose hope. =)
  20. Since I live in omaha you should have me talk to her or my dad for that matter. My dad was the same way.. they thought he had tumors but after the scans found out that they werent cancer. My dad didnt eat for sometime during the chemo for days or more and he had to have and IV and get redhydrated. Then things improve. they really do and you and your mom have to believe that. Inspire her! Dont ever give up hope. It really helped my dad to tell him about this site and the encouraging stories. And now I love encouraging others because there is hope. Christy
  21. My dad is a stage IIIB and he had radiation applied to his lung to supress the cough that he had from it. They say a combo of chemo and radiation is equal to surgery. My dad was dx exactly a year ago and he is still here and because of this website i have motivated my dad to be positive and we will all succeed. I truly believe that God works wonders and he is blessing us every day.

  24. Slew of Anti-Angiogenic Drugs on the Way Aug. 6 — Avastin is only one of many new drugs designed to block the signals that tell cancers to form new blood vessels for their continued growth. While Avastin may be generating the most buzz, cancer experts say that an entire fleet of anti-angiogenic drugs are hot on its trail, several with clinical trial results on the horizon this year. • List of Antiangiogenic Drugs in Clinical Trials Like all new drugs, these antiangiogenic drugs will go through a series of rigorous testing before FDA approval. After preclinical trials in the lab and then in animals, three phases of human clinical trials must be done to test and validate the drug's safety and effectiveness in patients. According to the Angiogenesis Foundation, Avastin is one of five antiangiogenic drugs currently in Phase III trials, the last stage before FDA approval. 67 trials in earlier stages are currently underway across the country. On the heels of Avastin are Neovastat, a liquid cocktail being tested for renal cell carcinoma and non-small cell lung cancer, PTK787, which comes in the form of a pill and is in testing for colorectal cancer, Revimid, a pill which targets melanoma and multiple myeloma, and Thalomid, a pill which is in testing for a variety of cancers including lung, prostate, and ovarian. Antiangiogenic drugs are part of a larger group of what is being called "targeted" therapies; like smart bombs, these drugs find their target — in this case, angiogenic factors which encourage blood vessel growth to the tumors — and destroy them. However, the mechanisms by which they go about doing this vary. Anti-angiogenic drugs also share a distinct advantage over traditional treatments such as chemotherapy. While chemo attacks all dividing cells, anti-angiogenic drugs disrupt only processes unique to cancer. The expected result is more effective treatment with fewer side effects. "This will be an important year for cancer patients," said Dr. William Li, president and medical Director of the Angiogenesis Foundation. "In the fall of this year, we'll know if [Neovastat] is the second successful anti-angiogenesis drug … this year could be a double hitter." One of the unique properties of Neovastat is that it's a drink. "The field is moving quick," said Li. "Think of how treatment is changing." Unlike Avastin, he added, which only targets one angiogenic factor called VEGF, Neovastat targets five simultaneously. While far from a cancer cure, the incredible potential for anti-angiogenesis therapy is apparent. Drugs like Avastin are leading the way for potential new treatments against breast, prostate, and lung cancers. "With these drugs we may be looking at cancer as a more chronic, manageable condition … as opposed to fatal, uncontrollable disease," said Li. — By ABCNEWS' Eric Choy
