  1. Perhaps you may have saw this before but I like to share this at this time of the year. Hope that each one of you has Merry Christmas. Praying for a cure for all of us.

    Bruce

    Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house

    Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.

    Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care,

    In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

    The children were dressing to crawl into bed,

    Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.

    And mom in her rocker with baby on her lap,

    Was watching the late show while I took a nap.

    When out of the East there arose such a clatter,

    I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.

    Away to the window I flew like a flash,

    Tore open the shuters and threw up the sash.

    When what to my wondering eyes should appear

    But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.

    With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray,

    I knew in a moment this must be The Day.

    The light of His face made me cover my head,

    It was Jesus returning, just like He said.

    And though I possessed wordly wisdom and wealth,

    . I cried when I saw Him, in spite of myself.

    In the book of life, which He held in His hand

    Was written the name of every saved man.

    He spoke not a word as he searched for my name;

    When He said, “It’s not here,” I hung my head in shame.

    The people whose name had been written with love,

    He gathered to take to his Father above.

    With those who were ready He rose without a sound,

    While all the rest were left standing around.

    I fell to my knees, but it was to late;

    I had waited to long and thus sealed my fate.

    I stood and I cried as they rose out of site;

    Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

    In the words of this poem, the meaning is clear.

    The coming of Jesus is drawing near.

    There’s only one life and when comes the last call,

    We’ll find the Bible was true after all!

  2. It was in Feb 2003. I worked outside clearing snow for the college that I worked for. I would get hoarse but no sore throat. I am not one that runs to the doctor with a runny nose. Other than that I felt fine. When I'd go inside for a while my voice would come back. I thought it was the cold air. My wife got the flu and went to the doctor. While talking to my friends at work everybody said "and what about you, when are you going to the doctor"? Well after a few weeks of nagging on their part I saw the doctor in early March. I had not had x-ray in 2 years so he felt like I needed one. Well the rest is history...CT Scan, PET Scan...Bone Scan..more x-rays and as Paul Harvey says.....NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY.

  3. Hi Jean,

    It is true it does take a while especially if you must appeal their decision. I just wanted to tell you that it only took me 7 1/2 weeks from the day I applied to get approved. There is a 6 month wait period tho. I became disabled in 4/03 but did not apply until 8/03 in hopes that I could return to work. Tell sis to stay on them and if you get a letter from the state examiners office (they make the determination) stay on them as well.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Wanted to share what I learned from my surgeon today. First of all let me refresh everyone since we have a few new members. I was diagnosed in 3/03 with NSCLC. I had a 7.5 cm mass on my left lung. My surgeon was not sure he could remove it so my team of doctors decided that Chemo and Radiation at same time and then look at results to see if it was operable. I had 5 rounds of Carbo/Taxol and 25 radiation treatments. I had no side effects that was noticable. My team of doctors said that I responded remarkably well to the treatments and agreed that surgy was now possible. I had one lung removed in June 2003. All 4 of my doctors say my recovery has been remarkable. Surgeon told me today that I am continue to do well.

    Now here is what I really wanted to share. A student doctor was with my surgeon today. He briefed her on what I had done as well as my pathology report. Here is where I was surprised. He said there was a micro-scopic trace of cancer. I had heard one of my other dr say this so I ask him this. Does that mean that there is a micro-scopic trace left before surgery or after surgery? To my surprise he told me that that was all that was there when he operated. My thought was why did you take lung for a trace but I kept my mouth shut. He made the comment to the student that Carbo/Taxol was really doing a good job and that he was seeing good results from everyone that had that type of chemo.

    Sorry if this is long but I thought maybe some one on Carbo/Taxol might like this news.

    Praying for us all.

  5. Will definatly be praying for Daisy and Clover. You can tell by my screen name how I feel about animals. My dog has been a great blessing to me during my recovery. He can tell when I am sick. He will come and jump on my lap or lay at the foot of my recliner as if to say " can I help you"

  8. I too have been thinking about Norme and Buddy all day. Her posts have been a real inspiration to me. I was going to post the same question tonight. I know she said she would be off line for some time but I was hoping someone might have heard from her by some other means such as telephone etc. If anyone hears from her PLEASE post and let us know.

  9. Kristy,

    Hang in there and tell your Mom to do the same. GOD STILLS PERFORMS MIRACLES. Your Mom will be in my prayers as soon as I finish typing this. Also, she will continue to be in my prayers. Keep us posted.

  10. Hang in there Fay. I have read most of your post and you are a strong lady. Sorry to hear of your discouraging news. Things could be worse. The chemo will be over and you will be on your way to recovery once again. Take care and you will be in my prayers.

  11. Hi Cheryl,

    Welcome to the board. First of all don't listen to any time frame on life. They are just stats. Only the good Lord above knows how much time we have left. I understand you being scared. I came home and went straight to bed when I was told I had cancer. You will find that there are a lot of people here that was told they only had a few months, but are here months and years later. Feel free to vent here or just look for info on a situation like yours. Seek a second opinion and be sure you are comfortable with your doctors. Keep us posted and give us an update on your situation.

  12. I read an article sometime ago that said the color and texture of your nails was an indication if you had some type of cancer. I think it went something like this but not sure. If your nails had good color then you most likely did not have any cancer. If they were brittle and had a texture like lines it meant something ele. Has anyone saw the article. I can't remember where I read it. Magazine or newspaper I think.

  13. I agree with Greg. Whoever wrote that is sick. Guest was only asking a simple question that was probably a good question for a lot of us here. I am wondering myself if it was actually one of us that wrote it. Perhaps someone just surfing the net. I don't know any of you personaly, but from the post that I have read (and I read all that have been posted since my last visit so as not to miss anything) I can not believe it was one of us. Oh well, it was posted so try to ignore it now. Wishing you all the best.

  14. Hi Doug,

    I had my lung removed in June 2003. I too had the same questions as you. Basicly my doctors gave me the same info that Debi posted above. I was told that it would take a good year to get back to normal. I tried to return to work at 8 weeks and again at 11 weeks but was unable to do so. I have a lot of stairs to climb (5 buildings with 5 stories each and no elevator) so since I was short of breath I could not climb but 1 flight before I had to rest. i am now 5 months post-op and can breathe better but not perfect. I am not on O2 or inhalers and the doctors tell me I am doing good.

    As far as the pain, I still have some in my back area. It comes and goes. I am now taking 1 or maybe 2 pain pills a day to tolerate the pain. I hurt right below the breast. This is where the incision starts and stops. My breast will get numb at times.

    Hopes this helps you answer your questions. Stay with us and keep us updated. As you can see there are others her that are going through the identical thing as you. Good Luck.

    Bruce
