  1. Shellie, I just want to add my thoughts here. You reached out to 1050+ strangers here ( I use this term loosely). We are here to help you if you need us. That is what makes this board so special. There is enough love and care here to go around for all of us and then some left for the guests that want to brouse.

God never puts more on us then we can handle. You are here for a reason. You are on the board for a reason. Look at the way you handled SCAREDOFRESULTS. That was professional my friend. I feel you made a difference in her life.

As the others have said...get help. We need you here. Will be praying for you. Bruce

  2. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Bill fought a long hard battle. Will continue to keep you and the family in my prayers. Bruce

  3. Hi Ohio. Been wondering how you were. Glad you tolerated chemo well. Remember anything worth having is worth waiting on. This will make sense when you get those results back. Will be looking for your post in the Good News Forum. :):):):):) Bruce

  4. Hi,

Shelly has given you some good advice. I'll try to give you some more. Don't borrow trouble. If it is CANCER then that is bad enough. If it is not, then you have wasted a lot of time worrying and surfing for nothing. As Shelly said, prepare for worst and hope for the best.

As far as the internet goes, my doctor told me to believe half of what I read. which half is up to you. There are over 1000 loving and careing people here. Someone has been in your shoes as well as your mothers.

Take a break from worring and come back and give us the good news from the doctor. Feel free to come here and talk with us if you feel the need. You can also come to CHAT on Tues and talk with us or share a laugh. Bruce

  5. Hi Ray,

It's me again. I wanted to share part of a post that I posted in Dec 2003. My surgeon is pleased with the results he is seeing from Taxol.

Now here is what I really wanted to share. A student doctor was with my surgeon today. He briefed her on what I had done as well as my pathology report. Here is where I was surprised. He said there was a micro-scopic trace of cancer. I had heard one of my other dr say this so I ask him this. Does that mean that there is a micro-scopic trace left before surgery or after surgery? To my surprise he told me that that was all that was there when he operated. My thought was why did you take lung for a trace but I kept my mouth shut. He made the comment to the student that Carbo/Taxol was really doing a good job and that he was seeing good results from everyone that had that type of chemo.

Hope this continues to lift your spirits some. Bruce

  6. Way to go Ray. Sorry about your scans but am glad you have bounced back.

I would like to add that this thread is what this board is all about. No where else have I found this much concern and support. Keep us posted on further scans. Again congragulations on your "Comeback." Bruce

  7. I can relate to your post. I am 1 year post op now and still have the pain. It is a burning pain. It is less frequent now than before. The back pain usually comes on whenever it wants to. it lasts for a few minutes and gone. I had a hard time explain to my doctor. As strange as it may seem, if i take a dose of Malox or Mylanta the pain goes away. My doctor could not figure this one out. My medical doctor gave me some Protonix (same as Previcid) and now the burning and indigestion is gone. I tried to tell him that the indigestion and back pain went together but he must thought I was crazy...:lol::lol: . Hope this helps you to feel you are not alone on this. I constantly had that fear of cancer getting in my bones. Take Care. Bruce

  8. Way to go David. I too smoked 2 packs a day for 35 years. I was wanting to quit cause we were buying another house and I did not want to make it smell. I went from 2 1/2 packs to 1/2 pack for a week or so but when I was dx I left my Dr office and lit one in the car. That 1/2 pack went to ZERO fast. I quit cold turkey on dx. Sure I want one now and then but I know I would not stop at one.

People ask how I quit. I look at them and say ...Simple. I looked at a 2001 x-ray and a 2003 x-ray side by side and saw the difference. I looked at a big white spot which was called CANCER. They reply did the spot go away? I reply...YES and SO DID ONE OF MY LUNGS.

Wish I could share this with teens today. Anyway, congragulations and stay SMOKE FREE.

  12. I didn't think that burning would ever go away. I too used Magic Mouthwash. It did the trick but man; that awful taste. Another think I found that helped even more was what they called a GI Coctail. Not sure what was in it but it worked better. Never did get any to bring home tho only while in hospital. Might ask your doctor and see if you can get it at pharmacy to take home.

  13. Got my CT results back from my onc today. He is very pleased with progress. I do have a small cyst on my liver and one on my kidney. He seems to think nothing to worry about. CT also showed a small highatle (sp) hernia. The cyst was on my liver last scan but kidney and hernia are new. All in all he was pleased. Just wanted to let you folks know. I will be one year post surgery in June.

  15. I have a doctors appt April 13 with my Onc. I would like to place some flyers ( preferably a single sheet or maybe one that I can fold in 1/3 ) to leave in his office. I thought this would be a good way to promote the website.

Here is where I need help. I have never made anything like this before and would not know where to start. I thought that perhaps someone might like to create one and send to me. Maybe someone might already have one made up. Just something simple. I know how busy most of you are and hate putting extra work on you.

    Thanks, Bruce

  16. My brother had lung surgery in 1993. I don't know what type or anything. they took out part of a lung. The doctor told him that he was basicly cured but if he did not stop smoking he would not be around in 5 years to claim the victory. You guessed it...he continued to smoke. He made it 6 1/2 years and died in 1999. Only wish I knew what stage and type he had. Think it was NSCLC cause they did not operate on SCLC then.

As for me...I quit cold turkey when I saw results of biopsy. I left the dr office and lit one up in the car. That was my last ...18 mo ago. I still have the last 3 packs that I bought. While cleaning my car out when I bought my truck this year, my wife pitched them in trash can. I got them out tho. Don't have desire for any and don't know why I hang on to them.
