  1. OK Bob. Now just what did you do in CR to get all bent out of shape? Did you swing that golf club to hard? I bet you hit a bird in the head with the ball and mother bird came after you.:lol::lol: .

Seriously now, hope you get to feeling better (as I know you will) and get back to the board and chat. Take Care my friend.

  2. Hi Jerry,

Welcome to the board. While I can't answer all your questions, I am sure you will find the answers to your questions here. I was dx with NSCLC in 3/03. I never knew the stage. I had Carbo/Taxol just like you along with my radiation treatments. I had 5 chemo (1 weekly) and 30 radiation treatments. I had great results with this as it shrunk from 7.5 cm to a microscopic trace. I then had left lung removed. I never had any chemo after surgery so I can not answer your questions beyond that. Are they planning on surgery for you. I was able to work while getting treatments but had to get SS disability after surgery. Hope you are able to return to work and not have to go that route. By the way, if I am not mistaken, I think stage IV is automatic qualifaction for SS (if you qualify otherwise).

Good luck with your treatments and by all means come here and keep us posted. We will laugh with you or cry with you. We will listen if you need to vent. Who knows we just might make you laugh too. :):):) .

  3. Thanks Elaine. After the manager telling me how impressed he was with me and all, when I returned his call the next day he told me a decision had been made and someone else was chosen. Oh Well. Maybe I'll find something before I go insane. I do have my SS so I am not pushed.

  4. It was 1 year ago today that I had my routine chest x-ray. I was not sick but mearly a check-up. My doctor saw a cloudy spot on my lung. A CT was ordered and then more tests and eventually surgery. Well everyone is familer with the rest of the story.

Due to me taking leave of absence from work put me on the internet more... :):):)

I then stumbled on this wonderful site. I would check it 1 time a day. Now I check it 3 or 4 times a day. Am I addicted or what? I don't post much but I do read all the posts. I mean ALL. I click on 'Read Post Since Last Visit" and that gives me all.

When you laugh (Snowflake) I laugh. When you cry; I cry  . When you grieve; I greive. I pray for each of us daily.

I pop in Chat once in a while to say hello. I usually cut up in chat and have a good time. Sometimes after I sign off I think "should I have said that." I often feel if I made someone mad. But you know what....I go to the message board and find more laughs - sometimes bigger laugh then what I just said. Ry, I never did buy that stock in the Toilet Paper company.

Cancer is rough and hard. As Norme says "buckle your belt, you are in for a rough ride. I am doing fine at the present time. CT and chest x-ray every 6 months. Have a chest x-ray one three months and then CT next 3 months. But why do I keep coming here if I am doing good? I CARE ABOUT OTHERS. I look at posts sometimes 2 or 3 times. I could post reply but I know someone else has been there and will post. If not I will post in a day or 2.

I truely am glad to be a part of this group. I want to think each of you for careing enough to want to share with others. I am blessed to have crossed paths with each and everyone of you. Some of you truely amaze me. I would never have the courage or strength that some have.

I don't want to call names cause I'll leave someone out. Some have left us. But I have to mention 2 people... Norme and Dean. No matter what has happened in a given day, you 2 can be there to help others no matter what your day has been like. You both have been an inspiration to me. Thanks Katie and Rick. You go above and beyond in keeping this site going. Said I would not mention names so I'll shut up.

Thanks for reading this lenghty message and for putting up with me. As long as you choose to put up with me...I'll be here. :):):) .

  5. I shared this in Chat a few weeks back and thought I'd share it with the rest of you.

I received a call from AT&T a while back. It was bad enough that she interupted my supper, but when I tried to tell her that I was not interested she continued to ask WHY. She then ask me if I didn't like to save money and how AT&T was the best deal.

By this time my supper was getting cold. I told her nicely that YES I liked to save money. Once again she told me how AT&T was the best deal and that I could save money.

My reply to this was, " Mam I like to save money and that is why I am not interested." Once again She ask "why not."

My reply to this was, Mam I don't even have a phone. I then hung up on her.

As I hung the phone up my grand-daughter said, "Papaw you told the lady that you were talking to on the phone that you didn't have a phone."

Humm...wonder how many people this poor lady calls that does not have a phone.

  6. Well, to put in my five cents, Becky

What's the matter Becky? Has inflation went up in Michigan or have you gotten rich? It used to be "two cents worth" but now I see it is "five cents worth". Have you gotten rich by taking bets on the dog polls?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

  7. TBone,

My story on radiation is about the same as Becky's. I did not do the Aloe bit. I can relate to the nasty Carafax. I threw mine away. While in the hospital the doctor gave me a GI Coctail every 4 hours. Boy did it do the trick. Not sure what was in it tho. I have been off radiation now for 9 months and still have the fatique from radiation. Only occasionaly tho and it is going away. I do however still have burning in my back where I had radiation. Good Luck and take care.

  8. Norme,

As is the case when one of us here loses the battle, I am deeply saddened by your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I have no words that will fill your void. I feel that Buddy will be waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge just like he promised. He was so lucky to have someone like you in his corner. Please come back when you can. You are such an inspiration to everyone here.

  9. Your post sounds all too familer to me. I was diagnosed in 3/03 with the same dx as your dad. Left lung - complete removal - CT Scan and oh yes the bone scan and brain scan. Let's don't forget the PET Scan now. I was never told what stage I was but my tumor was 7 1/2 cm in size and was not operable. I was never told it was inoperable but my surgeon did tell me he didn't know if he could get it once he got in there, so I assume he meant "inoperable." My surgeon reccomended Chemo/Radation to shrink it. My oncologist wanted to go with Carbo/Taxol and 25 radiations at the same time. By the time I ended my chemo/radiation the tumor had shrunk to only a micro-scopic trace. My surgeon was able to get it all out and now I am doing real well at the present time. All my doctors said it was amazing how well I did. My surgeon said that it was a result of "PRAYER." I don't know what your religious belief is but I can tell you, as well as others here, that Prayer does change things. If can be of help in answering anything for you now or after the surgery feel free to ask away. Whatever you do for goodness sakes, stay with us and keep us updated on your dad. Will be adding you to my Prayers.

  10. Just sent mine off. Did anyone happen to see her show last week where she auctioned off a set of her bed linen on E-Bay. Last I saw she said the bid was at 60,000.Sure would be nice if someone would do that for us. I think she said money went to help PETS. Just a thought. I added that to my mail to her.

  11. First of all it is true, there is a 6 month wait period. If you have little or no income right now then you may qualify for SSI. There is no waiting period for that. You still must meet guidlines of being disabled to get SSI. Just because you are through receiving treatments does not have effect

on your claim (or at least I would not think so). It would depend on your medical records. You may be required to take some test at SS expense. You say you have a lot of questions. You can go to www.ssa.gov and get a lot of info. You can apply on line if you desire. Also we had a

discussion that you might find helpful a few days back http://www.buy2k.net/lungcancersurvivor ... php?t=5312 that you may want to read. I am not sure if removal of one lung auto qualifies you or not. I think it depends on your medical records. I think I read on here once that stage IV was automatic. Perhaps someone else can answer that for you. At any rate I would apply ASAP. All they can do is turn you down at which time you can appeal. Now as far as the 6 month wait period goes, I was told (also read it online) that you can make 800.00 per month and still be processed. There is a program where you can work if you desire and still get your check. I never really checked it out tho. If I can answer any questions for you, feel free to PM me. Hopefully others will reply to you also. Good Luck.

  12. One thing that I forgot to mention and have not noticed anyone else mention is to make copies of everything you send to SS. This not only is good if something should get lost in the shuffel but it also helps you if you ever need the info as to what you told them (such as an appeal if need be).

  13. Thanks Estrea. I am going to copy and paste this article in an e-mail to my local newspaper. Perhaps they will do a story also. So many non smokers are getting lung cancer. Perhaps someone else would like to do the same. Maybe we can get our point out that lung Cancer IS the number one killer.

  14. Hi,

I had my left lung removed in 6/03. Altho you are having only part of a lung removed, you and I will be different in some things. I can tell you a few things tho that my surgeon told me to expect. You will prob have some tubes in your side to drain fluid. As far as the pain goes, If they put an epidural in your back don't be afraid to use it when you get in your room. If not, don't be afraid to ask for pain meds. Your best buddy while in the hospital is the pain meds and a pillow. Oh yes, don't forget to take one from home. This is to put under your arm when you caugh. Get up and walk as soon as possible... if only to bathroom. Do your breathing exercise as instructed.

As far as the recovery period, everyone is different. Your overall health has a lot to do with it. I can tell you this tho, mine was slow process as I am still recovering. Some people on here have returned to work in no time flat. My doctor would not let me return. Again I had a complete lung removed not just a lobe.

One last thing. PLEASE COME HERE AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU DO. Show a family member or friend how to get into site and post for you. We all care here. That is what makes us special.

Good luck to you and will be looking forward to your posts.

    Bruce

  15. Congragulations Dean..... Looks like someone above may be looking out for you. May the good news keep coming for you. Take Care My Friend and don't get any tickets on that there scooter.....:lol::lol::lol:

  16. Hi Chrissy,

I worked my last day on April 25. My plans were to return to work after my surgery and treatments were over. Things did not work out as I planned. I went to the SS office on August 12. You can not receive SSDI until your 6th month of disability. They did go back to the last day worked, which in my case was April 25. If approved I would be eligable for benefits in October. I was approved and I got my check in November. SS pays you a month late. In other words you get your October check in November. Also they go by your birthday as to the day you get a check.

You used to get them on the 1st but not anymore. You get check on Wednesday. In my case I get mine on the 2nd Wed of the month.

As far as being faster by applying online, I can't answer that. Perhaps someone here has applied on line and will answer you. Not sure if Norme can answer you or not. Don't know if you could apply on line before she retired or not.

I also authorized SS to get all my medical records. You may need to follow up with your doctors to be sure they actuall sent records to SS. My doctors charged 20.00(each doctor) to send the reports. Can you believe this? SS did pay the bill tho.

I do have 1 word of advise however....STAY ON THEM. Get your congressman involved if need be. I was really surprised that I was approved in short time that I was....7 weeks.

By the way, If you have no income, or low income you may be eligable for SSI for the 6 month wait period. There is no wait period for SSI. Good Luck.
