  1. Randy, I'll need a GPS just to find my way to the pawn shop to get another at 1/3 the price? roflmao
  2. Sammi, Please let us know what happens with your mom's test? My thoughts and prayers are with you for a good report. I like the idea of you going into pathology Keep us posted please? ((hugs))
  3. Good Morning! Moving a bit slow today. I think I'm getting a cold. Not surprised though because of the weather here. Someone told me to drink ginger tea with honey before going to bed. They said it will sweat the cold right out of you. Gonna try that tonight I'm going to try my first batch of beef jerky today. They say you can do it either in the dehydrator or in the oven. Not sure which I will do, so wish me luck? Weather here today is supposed to be in the upper 40's but with lots of rain. Still dry right now but the dark clouds are rolling in Better than snow huh? Hope you all have a great day
  4. Hi Katie! I moved to the country and bought a home here. Population is only 600 in this little town. LOL Even though I feel isolated here it's better than California was to me. When I first bought in CA it was a nice town and then when the housing market crashed and with all the foreclosures around me the banks were renting to some really bad people. I have no desire to move back there again. I like the idea of a GPS to get myself into the larger cities here where I can shop. It's something I plan to look into soon
  5. Beautiful day here in Illinois It's about 50 degrees but feels like a heat wave! Life sure is different here compared to California. My life is so very different now. I've been out 4 or 5 times helping cut down trees and splitting wood for the winter. We don't use the wood in the house, but we have a burner out in the shop building. Let me tell ya....I was so cold I thought my feet and hands would just freeze and fall off. Mind ya, those days it was about 12 degrees. I don't know why we can't do it in warmer months to get ready, but then, I'm still a city gal who doesn't know much about this country living. I still haven't learned how to drive myself into Springfield so I can do some "real shopping". So many twists and turns through country roads before you can get to the highway just confuses me. I've always gotten lost easy anyway. LOL Wish I knew some women around here that could go with me sometime. Always being around men can get pretty depressing ya know? Decided to make some beef jerky tomorrow. Never done it before so hope it turns out. Anyone here ever made it? Sure would like a few tips
  6. I too understand the fear you are feeling. I too have been there with my husband. Please visit our other forums for a wealth of information as well as support. You are in a community of people who truly care. Let us know how you're doing ((hugs))
  7. You said that you think the Crohn's is caused from the Tarcevea? What other side effects did you get? My husband took Tarceva and only got the famous rash.
  8. Congratulations on the NED You're a strong woman and an inspiration to all survivors! Here's hoping you will continue with the NED for many years to come
  9. Laurie, I'm so sorry to read this. My heart is just breaking for you dear one. You are such a strong lady and I'm sure your mom is proud of you! Prayers for your dad ((hugs)) Please come back and let us know how you're doing.
  10. Hi becksco1, I too am glad you found us This is a wonderful place to visit and talk to others who have the same experiences. People here have so much helpful information and they sure know how to offer the support needed. I too am hoping to see an update from you and know how your doing. ((hugs))
  11. This is just terrible news. I'm so very sorry and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please be kind to yourself and if you ever just want to talk...we are here. ((hugs))
  12. My husband used the GemCarbo when he first began his chemo. I'm sure everyone is different but in his case it was extremely harsh on his system. He had to have blood transfusions after each and every treatment. They stopped this combo and switched him to Tarceva. This does "not" happen to everyone though. I'm sure others will follow here that have had success.
  13. I'm so happy to hear your mom was able to enjoy Christmas with you! Please keep us updated on how she is doing and feel free to post....post and post dear one
  14. There are many different types of cancer so please try to get as much information you can from his doctors. Prognosis and chemo side effects are also different for many. Please browse our other forums and you'll find a world of information from our members. I hope you are able to get more information and let us know how he is doing. Best of luck to you and your family ((hugs))
  15. Erika, I too am sorry to hear about your dad but also very glad you found us here. My husband was also diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma and he too did not have any symptoms. No breathing problems or back pain at all. He just complained about feeling so tired. Routine x-rays of the lung showed pneumonia and later biopsy of the fluid gave us the cancer diagnosis. He was also a smoker who had quit a few years prior to the diagnosis. BUT remember that it's not only smokers who get lung cancer. Anyone with lungs can get it. Sounds like your dad has a loving family and that can mean so much during his illness. Please browse our forums and feel free to post anything on your mind.....any questions or even how your feeling. ((hugs))
  16. Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas. I wonder how many of you are laying around the house eating all those great left overs? I cooked for Russ's family yesterday. Had tons of food prepared. I tend to cook so much that even after sending others home with food we still have a lot! Bet our puppy Sampson is gonna love it too. Today I'm not planning to do much. I think my feet still hurt from standing in the kitchen all day yesterday so I'm just going to play on the computer and maybe read on of the new books I have. It's so cold outside today so I don't want to go anyplace. It was supposed to snow last night but it appears to have avoided us for the time being. Well, I hope to see a few other posts today?
  17. Well, I made it through the day. I was surrounded by Russ's family and tried my best not to let anyone notice it just didn't feel "right" for me. Couldn't go outside for a walk because it was only about 29 degrees Christmas day was always special for my husband and I before he passed. I would spend the whole day cooking and cleaning. I used to go "all out" wanting everything to be perfect and he always tried to help me as much as he could. Funny cuz usually when men try to help they only get in the way don't they? ha ha It's hard with Russ's family. I have no doubt they love each other, however, there are always voices being raised and someone always storms out the door mad. I'm just not used to that I guess. Oh well, the day has passed and I'm still in one piece right? Hoping to spend New Years Eve with just "friends" that night
  18. It's Christmas Eve. It's the 4th Christmas without my husband. Not quite sure why, but this seems to be harder than the past years...... Maybe because I'm spending it with another family when I don't have one of my own anymore I suppose. Just hope I'm able to cry quietly without anyone knowing

    6 years today!

Congratulations Janet! Hoping to see you come back on the 20th year and share with us Have a wonderful Christmas and Celebrate dear one!
  20. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother The first thing I would suggest you do regarding medical coverage for her is talk to her doctor or one of the social workers in the hospital. There must be a way they can help her. No one should ever be turned away when they need medical care. I hope you get some good news and that you will return here if you need us. If you have questions we will try our best to help and if you simply want to vent and cry.....we're here to listen as well. Hugs and prayers for you and your Mom!
  21. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. But I'm happy you found Lungevity. Everyone here is just so wonderful and it's a safe place for you to come and talk about what's going on with your mom and your feelings as well. Feel free to rant and cry and ask any questions you want. We are here for you! I came here in 2009 shortly after my husband was diagnosed with nsclc and everyone here helped me more than they will ever know. I too didn't have anyone close to me who truly understood so I understand how you feel. ((hugs))
  22. Hi everyone! Had a really busy morning so I'm late arriving here today. Weather report says snow on Thursday and since I'm afraid of driving in it I went to the grocery store and loaded up just in case After dragging everything inside and putting it away I made Tacos.....my favorite food! Our pup Sampson is still having an issue with constipation so I picked up the "really expensive" food for him today. They are small cans and " Porterhouse Steak " flavored with extra fiber. Hope this helps! Russ has been helping in son on his septic tank for a couple days. What a job ewwwwww Glad I'm not out there. This city girl stays inside and watches through the window. LOL Well, I better get off here and clean up the mess I made in the kitchen. Hope everyone has a great day
  23. It's cold and raining here this morning. News report last night said sunshine and a high of 60.....yea right Finally finished all my Christmas shopping. Ended up buying more than I had intended but then, don't we all? I did manage to buy myself some warm fuzzy socks which are coming in handy this morning. Russ is out again today helping his son work on his septic system. Coming from California I don't understand the concept of how these systems work but it sure is a mess. They are out there in the rain digging the whole thing up and running new pipe lines. He's been sick and I doubt this weather is going to do any good. All I can offer is a pot of hot soup for when he gets home. Our dog Sampson seems to be having issues of constipation. I read online about giving him a tsp of pure pumpkin in his food or some mineral oil but doesn't seem to be helping much. Going to keep a close eye on him today and if no change I'll take him to the vet tomorrow. Anyone else had this problem with their pets? He does eat a quality canned food with fiber now.....just don't know. He refuses to eat the hard food at all Have a great day everyone
  24. Sounds like he has a loving family and that's so very important for him during this time. You mentioned his coughing. My husband had that also and used a nebulizer machine with a medication called albuterol. Perhaps his doctor could give him this. I know it helped my husband a great deal plus I use it myself for asthma. It really helps! Please keep us updated on your dad
