  1. Sharon, I'm so sorry for the lost of your dear friend Bill.
  2. Phyllis, Don't give up. Get a second opinion., I know a lady that had a recurrence of breast cancer w/mets to her lung. She was told to go home and get things in order, there was nothing that could be done for her. She did not listen to them, she sought a second opinion and received treatment and she is still here today doing great.
  3. Hi Bob, I hope you continue to improve.
  4. Sorry the Ireesa didn't work maybe the taxotere will do the trick. I hope the new medication will give you some relief until the taxotere starts working.
  5. Jen, I too coughed and wheezed. It got better after the second or third week of radiation therapy. I coughed sometimes for a half hour or more. Also would going into these coughing spells if I was talking for a little while. Hopefully your coughing will improve also. I still have coughing spells sometimes, my grandson who is 4 has asthma and has to take breathing treatments will ask me, Nannie do you need a breating treatment. As for you being in stage IIb and inoperable, I would question the doctors on why they are saying this. Also you may want to get a second opinion.
  6. Hi Jen, I had really good results with my chemo. I never got sick. Oh the third day after treatment I would be really tired. I contunued to work during most of my treatment. I was ill for several months prior to treatment. I started with radaition first and then about half was my chemo treatment started. I was really scared also. Good luck to you.
  7. Hi Jen, yes I was sick for several months. I had pleurisy and pneumonia. I had a fever for over a month. There were times I would get out of the bed and would be ready to go back to bed within the hour. My appetite was horrible the smells of foods and perfumes would make me sick to my stomach. I lost all taste for food. I had to make myself eat. I didn't know if I was ever going to feel better. I can still remember the day I woke up and was feeling better. I told my husband you know it really feels good to feel good. So many people really take their health for granted. My doctors will fuss at me now because I don't complain about anything. They have to asked me a direct question before I tell them something is bothering me. I guess its because I remember what it really feels like to feel bad. SO YOU KEEP UP THE FIGHT! KEEP TELLING YOURSELF YOUR GOING TO BEAT THIS THING.
  8. Hi Tony, Heather is right seems very odd the doctor has not giving her the stage of her disease. Maybe she needs to ask the doctors that question. When I did chemo I did not get sick either. I did on the third day after treatment become really tired. I also continued to work the entire time I was receiving treatment. Best wishes to you and her.

  10. Hi Jen, You have to completely want to quit for yourself and no one else. You have to want to quit. I quit when I became sick on June 19, 2002. I just kept asking myself do you want to die, and the anwser of course was no, so I have not picked up another one. I told myself if I was going to fight this disease that I needed to quit. Why keep doing the same thing that made me sick in the first place. Don't get me wrong is was very hard. Sometimes when I had the most disturbing news is when the urge to smoke was the strongest. Sometimes I still want one, but again I ask myself that question do I want to live. STILL IT IS VERY HARD.
  11. Jim, The best of luck to you.
  12. Hi Diane, I was on Carbo/Taxol, I had my last treatment last July. I still have joint pain. My feet, knees, hips, elbows and hands hurt almost all the time, sometimes more than others. My hips really hurt at night when I lie in bed. The doctor has prescribe etodolac and I take advil during the day and tylenol PM at nignt. Everthing still hurts. The doctors can give me something stronger but they say that could cause stomach problems.
  13. Hi T Bone, I was on Carbo/Taxol, last year I did not have any trouble with the chemo. I did get alittle tired on the third day, but I never go sick. I actually gained about 30 pounds. I was on for three weeks and then off for a week. My platelet count did really get low. The chemo did put me into menopause. I told the nurses and Docs , that God had a weird sense of humor. It also gave me something like arhritis. Just about every joint in my boby aches, from my feet, knees, hips, hands and elbows. But I do feel better, than I did before my chemo and radiation. I hope you do well.
  14. Hi Jamie, My name is Dee, I'm 45 now, and I have stage IIIB lung cancer. My cancer is also in my lymph nodes and is inoperable. I was just turning 44 when I was diagnosed. I have completed my chemo and radiation and feel really good now. Everything is stable. There is hope. Best wishes to you and your dad. Dee
  15. Hi Jeanne, My name is Dee and live in Chester, Va., I'm not sure where Burke is. I am 45 now was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer stage 111B, just a few days before my 43rd birthday. I am a mother of three, only one is still at home, she's 17 now. My other two daughters are 28, and 22. I have 5 grandsons, yes, 5 grandsons. One of them is like a son to me, as he lived with me for several years. My thoughts when I was told about this disease was thoughts about him, he was two at the time. I know its hard, I just kept telling myself I was going to be ok. I wish you the best of luck and will say a prayer for you. I have finished my chemo and radiation. I feel pretty good now.
  16. Hi everyone I'm new to the board, just found this site today through the American Cancer site. I am 45 years old and have stage 111B non-small cell lund cancer. I was diagnosed in July 2002, I had no symptoms until the end of June 2002. i went to work that day feeling fine, went home for lunch and started having chest pains, thought I was having a heart attack but it was on the right side of my chest. I went to the doctor they did EKG and a chest x-ray they found a spot on my right lung. I was first told they thought I was in the early stages of the disease but after they did a biopsy on my lymph nodes I was told that they would not operate. My only options were chemo and radiation. I finished my treatment in July 2003. I was on carbo and taxol. I did not have any bad side effects. My throat was sore for a while. The chemo did put me into menopause and arthritis. Pet scan in October and was told that everything was stable or within the radiation treatment field. (What ever that means) My last vist to the doctors was in January and was told everything was still stable, see you in three months. I almost feel back to normal actually I feel pretty good. I have tried to get on a clinical trail but have been told by my doctors I can't until it starts to grow again. I am looking forward to talking with the people who have been posting on the board, everyone seems so nice and helpful.
