  1. After loosing my husband, Kirby, my sister-in-law insisted I join the local Gilda's Club. What a wonderful organization. They have activities Mon-Fri during the afternoons and evenings. They deal with the actual cancer patients, spouses, children & all family members (having separate activities for each so you can feel free to talk without them being in same room and say things that you might not say and ask things you might not want to ask if they were there n the same room). It has been 3 weeks ago today that I lost the love of my life and I miss him very much. I thank my sister-in-law for showing me the way to Gilda's. I hope there is a Gilda's Club in your local area.
  2. That is good news. Anytime you get good news with this disease is time for celebration. May the good news continue on today. Good Luck and God Bless.
  3. I'm so sorry to hear this. May God guide you through this difficult time.
  4. This morning we have funeral services for my beloved husband, Kirby. He was only 51 years old and I feel devastated. I loved him with my entire heart and soul. My sister-in-law has made an appointment for me to talk to a counselor at Gilda's Club on Monday. I'm hoping someone can help me find the answers. During his sickness I got a lot of good information on this board and would highly recommend it to anyone. I feel lost and somewhat bewildered.
  5. This morning my husband, Kirby, passed away. I want to thank each and everyone who supported both me and him through this terrible disease.
  6. I'm so sorry to hear you lost your mother. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
  7. First of all I want to thank each and every one for your responses. He will come home from hospital tomorrow (Mon). Hopefully radiation will start on Mon or no later than Tuesday. All I can say right now is he is better than when I took him into the hospital on Friday. He is walking with a walker. So I will keep you all posted. Again thanks so much for caring and taking the time to respond.
  8. I had to take my husband to the hospital again yesterday. Just when I thought things couldn't get much worse -- he was diagnosed on Friday with a brain tumor. The results on the Iressa were also not good and he has been taken off that too. On Friday he couldn't hardly move. He couldn't hardly walk and was almost totally out of it. I took him to the Oncologist and she put him into the hospital and they did an MRI Friday afternoon and she called me in his hospital room to tell me the sad news. They gave him a high dose of decadron the decrease the swelling and this morning he was much better. He called me this morning and said he didn't even remember being taken to the hospital yesterday in fact he didn't remember much of anything the last 2 days. So he will probably be home on Monday and probably start radiation on Tuesday. I will be glad to have him back home and Hospice will arrange for a hospital bed for him and a walker and anything else they think he may need. Thank God for Hospice. So here's hoping the next time I post things will be looking even better.
  9. Yes TAnn they put him on antibotics. They make him sick sometimes. His white count was 1.2 and the red count was around 3 or so. He had a bag of IV fluids on Monday and also another bag of IV fluid today. His blood pressure is low too. They give him the fluids to help with dehydration and raise the blood pressure. Now if we can keep him from not getting sick and drinking more fluids -- we will be on the right track. I'm hoping for a much better weekend!
  10. My husband (who has been on Iressa since July 1) went to the Dr. today (he has been so very tired) and somehow picked up a bacterial infection while in the hospital. Well, as if he doesn't have enough to worry about, he developed diarehha, and it wouldn't stop (this started when he was in the hospital about 1-1/2 weeks ago). So I took him to the Dr. yesterday and they wanted a stool sample. Took that to the lab and this morning they called and said he had a bacterial infection. As I said above he is so very tired so they took a blood test and his WHITE blood count is very low. They will start Ansep spelling???? (a procrit like shot given every 2 weeks) tomorrow. He had to have the shots when he was about 3 treatments into chemo with taxol/carboplatin a little over a year ago. My questions is has anyone else had low red blood counts from Iressa? EDITED (SHOULD HAVE READ WHITE NOT RED!!!!!! SORRY
  11. Ginny: I was just catching up on the board myself when I read this sad news. I'm so sorry for your loss. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Theresa
  12. My husbands "Iressa rash" looks like the measles. He is broken out from top of head to approximately 6 inches above the waist. They told him to take Clartin D to help the itch. Good luck.
  13. Yesterday I had to take my husband to emergency. He was diagnosed with a tumor on the spine and it was pressing against his spinal cord. They admitted him and did emergency radiation and will also call the radiation people in on Sat & Sun to try to get this shrink as soon as possible before it does any further damage to this spinal cord. He could barely walk and was so weak getting sick from the pain meds. I will tell you all he looked a lot better last night when I left of hospital then he did this morning when I took him in. One positive thing was he eat over 1/2 of his dinner. They have him hooked up to a morphine pump and it is managing his pain very well. I will keep you posted. He will remain in the hospital until at least Monday or until they regulate his pain meds.
  14. I have heard about pain patches. My husband is currently having problems eating enough to balance the pain medication he is on. He has tried oxcicoton, hydrocodone, each of those make him sick and can't take them. He is now taking 2 Darvon at a time every 6 hours or so. It does help somewhat with the pain but he ocassionally get sick taking that too. He is currently taking radiation treatments for hip and 2 ribs. I was wondering if anyone here had any success with the pain patch. I'm thinking if he doesn't have to digest the meds it might not make him sick. Any suggestions?
  15. I read your post today and it touched my heart deeply. I don't know what to say to help you with this but know I wish you could feel differently about this.
  16. Welcome you certainly have come to the right place. Everyone here is so helpful and friendly. I can't tell you what a relief it was to finally come to a place and get answers to questions we have with hubby condition. Questions from chemo to radiation and any just in general questions. Please drop in every now and then and let us know how you are doing.
  17. Dr. prescribed oxcycotin and it made my husband sick. He can take it for 2 days and on the 3rd day he gets very sick. So he had to quit taking it. We felt is was doing more harm than good. Bless his heart he is going without pain meds all day and taking a slight pain med at night to help sleep that doesn't make him sick.
  18. My husband also takes 250 mg daily. The only side effect he has had is the "Iressa Rash" from his forehead to mid chest area. Sometimes it looks worse than others. Compared to the side effects from the 2 different chemos he has taken this stuff is a breeze.
  19. I'm so sorry to hear about your son's cancer and please know you have come to the best site on the internet for questions and caring people.
  20. Unfortunately I have a friend that has endometrial cancer. I somehow found this wonderful board all about lung cancer for my husband and I was telling my friend about this board and she wondered if there was anything like this for the type of cancer. I would appreciate any replies and pass them along.
  21. Welcome to the site. I have found this place to be a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of lung cancer. I wish none of us had to come to this site and that some day very soon they will find a cure for this damn disease. Until then I'm sure glad I found this site it's a great place.
  22. Glad to hear things worked out. I know your husband must have been very upset when you couldn't come home Friday. I'm so glad you had someone who could watch over him while you were recouperating. I know he must feel much better now that you are home.
  23. Susan I hope things are better for you today. Just know all of us here are praying for you and your parents.
  24. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Please know we are all here for you if and when you need us.
  25. Margaret: I too would like to answer more posts. Somedays are better than others for all of us. We are all in the same boat but on different decks. We all try to help each other out and I thank God each and every day for this board and the members who take time out of their busy schedules to answer each and every question I have ever posted. So I always try to reply to the ones that I feel I can help if it's something we have already experienced. Thank you for your friendship on this board too. Theresa
