Hello I am writing with wondering. My mother was diagnosed with nsclc in the left lung and is pushing against the trauchia and the space between the heart and the left lung is not there. The tumor is very big 11 cm. Her first visit to radiation is tomorrow and her first visit to the oncologist for chemo is on Jan 12th 2005. I am trying to get all the information i can to be able to help my mom feel not so adgitated about it all and not so frightened. I have been threw helping other people but this is my mom. the doctor said she is a stage 111b any help will do

thank you

Karen, tell her there are many of us with nsclc, and many of us are doing ok.

Everyone seems to have different scenarios but most have some bumpy days (not feeling so good). The bottom line is treatments altho at times hard to take are doable and often times make a difference.

Karen,

my mom had a 17cm tumor crusing her esophagus. she lost her voice and was not able to eat. they ended putting a feeding tube in so she could get nourishment.

Chemo took her tumor down to just a lymph node for a while. Her first chemo cocktail 6 doses every 3 weeks.

I understand your fear. Its natural and very very normal. We all have it and have been exactly where you unfortunatley are.

your mom is your life force in a way so naturally you want to do everything humanly and unhamanly possible to cure her. I know I tried.

you and your mom have to have faith in her doctors. If they don't come out fighting like you want them too, fire them and find someone else. Its LIFE your fighting for.

if I can ever help, just ask.

Hi Karen, Welcome and sorry to hear about you’re mom. Here are some links to help you. I found the more I know the better I can battle. Knowledge (research, research and more research) is the key. Also a support group (or phone buddy) for lung cancer is a good place to see how others are dealing and coping if your mom is up to it. Stay with us, best place with the best people for caring, sharing, support and knowledge. Gather all the info from many of the post(s) and go forward. There is Ask The Experts also. Never hurts to get a second opinion either. Stay positive and focused and take it one day and one step at a time. Plus positive support from family and friends. Hope this helps. Peace, take care and God Bless. Rich
