randired
Can you get gamma knife surgery of the brain more than one time? Mom had it in early december. They radiated 4 2 cm tumors and because she has severe headaches again the doctor is sending her for another MRI on friday. My brother and I are prepairing some questions and we were wondering if you can have the gamma more than once?
stand4hope
Randi, The answer is Yes!!! I'm not real sure about gamma to the exact same tumors, though. Love, Peggy
karen335
Randi, I'm not sure, but as Peggy said, I believe the answer is yes. I had Stereotactic Radiation in June 2004. I had a 2cm brain tumor removed April 2004. You might want to post this question in ask the experts section. The doctors there are really good about answering qyuestions. Hope this helps and prayers fro your mom... God Bless and prayers, Karen
berisa
It probably cannot do the gamma knife again on the SAME LOCATION. But I am not sure, there is many conditions for gamma knife. Ask the neurosurgeon for answers.
kimblanchard
Yes, I had two separate gamma knife treatments. I am also thinking that the neuro-oncologist told me that if sufficient time had passed (over 1 year) he would consider hitting tha same spot again. It is not a preferred choice. MelanieLR
Dear Randi, My neuro-oncologist (name is Einstein - isn't that a kick?), said that he can keep zapping my brain tumors with the Gamma Knife till the cows come home. He prefers at least a 6 month period between hitting the exact same spot but he feels confident that as long as I choose to continue treatment, it wont be the brain mets that take me home. I'll be praying for your Mom. Take Care, Melanie
