jcawork Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Hi Guys, Well, my house came back contaminated for Radon. I checked w/ a number of physicians including our ask the experts and yes, Radon is a contibutor to sclc. Add smoking and you have quite a mess. I never knew this. Please get your homes checked. It doesn't matter for us-too late, but if others live in your home they are at risk. Sometimes significant risk. For example, my husband quit a heavy smoking habit at 40. He is 55 and his randon/smoking combo risk remains the same for 20 years. Well, I add this-radon, the asbestos exposure 8 years ago, the teenage repair shop chemical exposure and smoking on top of it etc..... Too many people on this board are VERY young for lc/sclc if you havnt noticed. Something is up. I suspect its radon. When I saw a surgeon for a consult w/ I first got dx w/ lc, but didnt know what type yet, he had 3 young patients (40's) all from the same subdivision in the same year w/ lc. He had them all check and they were all off the charts for radon. Food for thought. Jen Quote
Guest Mrsmanny Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I read that radon is 2nd cause behind smoking and that it is present in 1 in 11 homes... worth checking out! Quote
Tiny Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Yep- We checked our house - TWICE - for Radon exposure, trying to find a cause for my cancer, but it came back really low. Not really a problem in this area. I agree that it is certainly something to be aware of and check out. Quote
TomR4th Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 My brother was hot on radon in the '70 & it fell off the scope..Thank you for "waking up up".. Tom Quote
Don M Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I looked into a bit and discovered that it is not a problem in my area. Don M Quote
J.C. Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 This map of the States gives a good idea of the regions that have radon. Now lets hope it works. http://www.epa.gov/radon/zonemap.html Jackie Quote
paddy Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Before I moved in to my condo in MI I had it tested for radon and found the levels were quite high. The lady who lived here before me had no idea that this was the case.I have had this corrected and also installed two radon alarms. They are not expensive and well worthwhile for peace of mind. joanie55 Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Thanks for posting. This is such important information. My children will be buying their first homes soon and I'll make sure they check this out. We never would have thought to do this. Joan Quote
