Justin1970 Posted October 13, 2022 Share Posted October 13, 2022 Hi everyone Just an update on the CT SCAN I had done on Monday, I had the scan with contrast again and the same happened as the last time I had it and with the MRI SCAN, it seems to trigger seizure activity not a full seizure but arm and shoulder jerking it doesn't last long but I can't move my hand and arm for a few minutes afterwards, this has happened once a day since Monday, I have spoken to the cancer team who said they dont think it's anything to do with the contrast dye and don't want to do another brain scan because the swelling and scarring wouldn't give a true reading, I'm on keppra for the seizure activity and 2mg of dexamethasone for the brain swelling I just wondered if anyone has experienced the same problems after gamma knife radiosurgery or with contrast dye,the cancer nurse will apparently ring today after speaking with the oncologist,thank you for any information anyone has,hope everyone is well take care Justin Izzy and RJN 1 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I just wanted to say, hang in there, and hopefully this will be a short-term side effect that you are going through. Tom Galli Posted October 13, 2022 Share Posted October 13, 2022 Justin, I've had a similar reaction to the contrast solution infused for CT scans. It is a short duration loss of feeling in my arm and hand occurring always in the arm where the contrast is infused. Stay the course. Hoping and praying that the oncology team/nurse will have some answers for you. Hang in there and take care. I have a cancer patient friend who had very bad reactions to CT contrast to the point that doctors think it may have caused damage to her intestines. They used to give her Benadryl before contrast scans but with continued reactions she now refuses CT scans and only does PET scans instead. I would push for answers as if the reactions immediately follow contrast administration, there is likely a correlation if not a causation. Given your oncologists were not proactive before, can you see your GP again and ask for referral to a specialist who may dig deeper? Stay strong and hope this sorts itself out but given CT scans will be with you for the long term, better find out what is going on sooner than later.
