I AM CURRENTLY CONSIDERING A VACINE TRIAL WITH THE NCI KNOWN AS THE HYPERACUTE LUNG CANCER VACINE. WELL HONESTLY IT IS FRIGHTENING TO CONSIDER DOING A TRIAL, HAS ANYONE DONE A PHASE I TRIAL AND COULD ENLIGHTEN ME. OR ANYONE EVER INVOVLED WITH THE NCI. MY STAGE III DISEASE HAS BEEN STABLE SINCE SEPT. 03 I AM NOT NAIVE TO CONSIDER IT GONE BUT IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE NOT TO BE IN TREATMENT.. HELP, IF YOU CAN... :?: THANK YOU...

I am not familiar with this trial -- can you tell us a little more about it? Do you have active tumors? Would the goal be to shrink tumor? Or are you in remission and this would be considered preventative treatment?

I think it sounds pretty good. Though most of the info is from the company. Cancer cells have unusual cell-surface carbohydrates. The vaccine is supposed to use this as a target for killing the cancer cells.

One thing about vaccines is that there should be less side effects.

I guess that biggest worry is that it seems to be gene therapy.

Good luck with the decision. I would think that the NCI would be a good place to get treatment. Maryann I think got some of her treatment there.

Dr Charles Link is the founder of NewLink that maker of hyperacute lung vaccine. It might help to do research on him to figure out if this is sometime to try.

Gene therapy has been under the gun because of the death of a patient (I think it was a 18 year old boy) in the northeast. I don't remember exactly

I don't think that one incident is a reason to not take the vaccine, but it is something to consider.

With the problems that happened before I would think there are more safeguards in place.

I am sorry I have posted so late to this. I have done Phase III, Phase I and Phase II trials. I do not hesitate to do Phase I and II. These are some of the newest drugs around but not available to the public. You get a lost of attention from the nurses and docs to make sure nothing goes wrong. The first sign that the drug is not working they have to take you off. Good luck.

Let me add my prayers and gratitude to you for going for this trial! It takes courage, I think....yet there seems a good potential for positive results too! I'll be "vibing you" for success and looking forward to a report from you!! Best wishes......
