Well U have me confused, too. When was your first pet scan (the one where it lit up?). Was that before treatment? Maybe you could write your medical history in your signature because it is getting kind of complicated. I hate to say it, but he sounds a bit dense--if he doesnt know the difference between the two. Even though there are similarities, they are different, from my understanding and reading. Maybe he should get on the Internet if he missed that day at med school or maybe he should keep up to date. Do you have a case manager with your HMO? Sometimes they are helpful. Other times not because they do work for the HMO after all.

Cat, I am still here and will help any way I can. Keep strong. There are lots of us behind you.

Cat,

Is he with a hospital or private practice? Isn't there anyone else you can use. Sounds like a dentist could be more helpful. I'm cursing and swearing right with everyone else. I find your care unacceptable.

Curse, curse, swear, swear until you get the care and treatment you deserve.

Cat,

I am upset with/for you. Can't you get a different doctor? Is he a lung cancer specialist? You can't keep banging your head against this brick wall. I'll be following what is going on with you, but I hope it includes a DIFFERENT doctor.

SCLC will show on a PET scan. It just hasn't been used much. Remember that PET shows metabolic activity. SCLC is hypermetabolic so it should show. A cancer like a carcinoid is hypometabolic so it might not show or at least the SUV (standardized uptake value) will be lower.

One good thing is that the CT showed the tumor to be stable. Maybe it is dead. If it has been a month and not grown I think that is a very good sign. If you have another CT scan in a month or so and it shows no growth then maybe it is dead.

*maybe* the biopsy is correct and there is no longer any cancer. There have been a few cases I have read on pubmed about spontaneous remission. Praying you are.
