Welcome Xena,

So sorry you are going through this. Don't give up hope. There are many good treatments out there these days and doctors can't really make a judgement like they have without knowing all the facts. Even then they can't make such a judgement. Originally my husband was given a 9 month prognosis WITH treatment. It has been 18 months and he is still working full time, and feeling fine.

Lung cancer can be beat. People do it every day. Your doctors may be wrong altogether and this may not be cancer. If it is, get second opinions. Find out exactly the cancer type. Don't give up hope, and come here often for support. Remember bone mets usually respond well to radiation, so that can be dealt with. Also, there are a few very successful treatments for brain mets like Gamma knife. There have been recoveries in every stage and every type of cancer. Your father can be one of those. And every day we hang in there brings us closer to a cure. It is right around the corner.

I will be keeping you in my prayers

Carleen

Welcome Xena,

You must be feeling very scared and overwhelmed right now. The waiting is the worst part. Once your Dad is strong enough you will be able to put your mind to helping him fight this thing. Prayers and positive thoughts go out to you and your Dad and family. Paddy

Hi Xena, as you can probably guess I'm from the UK. Try to take comfort from the fact that people on here really do know how you're feeling. Certainly over here in the UK a diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer comes with the standard "they've got 6 months to live" response. But it doesn't have to be that way.

The first doc who saw my dad gave that response and offered as a treatment option 'no treatment'. My dad, me and the rest of my family were not having that. He is now being treated at a specialist cancer centre, by a fantastic team, who don't promise miracles but they do care. In two weeks time, God willing, my dad reaches that 6 month milestone. He's not through yet and those caring for him damn well ain't.

This is a battle alright, a painful, horrible battle but it's a battle you can fight. Don't give up hope and stay in touch.

Sean

I'm glad you found us -- the support here will help you in your fight against this beastly disease. And as the others have said, don't let the statistics and the predictions scare you off -- once he's off the ventilator and getting treatment, you'll see a difference. And there are all sorts of different treatments, as you'll see through reading through the posts on the board -- it's just a matter of finding something(s) that works for your dad.

Hi Xena and WELCOME!

This thread popped up today and I guess I missed it the first time around. I see that you haven't posted for 2-3 weeks and was wondering if you got a diagnosis for your dad yet. We would love to hear from you and help in any way we can.

Once again, welcome, and may God bless you,

Peggy
