  1. You are no longer cool when...... When grass is something that you cut, not cultivate. When jogging is something you do to your memory. Getting a little action means your prune juice is working. All the cars behind you flash their headlights. You remember the "Rolling Stones" as a rock group not a corporation. You bought your first car for the same price you paid for your son's new running shoes. You daughter says she got pierced and you look at her ears. The pattern on your shorts and couch match. You fondly remember your powder blue leisure suit. You don't know how to operate a fax machine. When someone mentions SURFING you picture waves and a surf board.

    Women

Women Women have strengths that amaze men. They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. Women wait by the phone for a "safe at home call" from a friend after a snowy drive home. Women have special qualities about them. They volunteer for good causes. They are pink ladies in hospitals, they bring food to shut ins. They are childcare workers, executives, attorneys, stay- at-home moms, biker babes and your neighbors. They wear suits, jeans, and they wear uniforms. They fight for what they believe in. They stand up for injustice. They are in the front row at PTA meetings They vote for the person that will do the best job for family issues. They walk and talk the extra mile to get their children in the right schools and for getting their family the right healthcare. They write to the editor, their congressmen and to the "powers that be" for things that make for a better life. They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution. They stick a love note in their husband's lunch box. They do without new shoes so their children can have them. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally. Women are honest, loyal, and forgiving. They are smart, knowing that knowledge is power. But they still know how to use their softer side to make a point. Women want to be the best for their family, their friends, and themselves. They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left. A woman's touch can cure any ailment. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart. A woman can make a romantic evening unforgettable. Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes. They live in homes, apartments and cabins. They drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin! Women do more than just give birth. They bring joy and hope. They give compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their family and friends. And all they want back is a hug, a smile and for you to do the same to people you come in contact with. Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.
  4. Grace, you are so loved on this board. I think all of our hearts completely went out to you and the girls during Carlton's illness. Supporting each other is what we seem to do best. I know, all too well, what you are feeling right now. Just remember that although there is a ton of stuff that needs to be taken care of, nothing has to be done at any particular time. Just do things as you feel you can and concentrate on taking care of yourself. I think it's good that the girls are back in school. In addition to being good for them, it gives you some time to grieve without worrying about upsetting them. Please remember that we are here for you. It's been four years since I lost Dennis and I still come here when I need friends that understand.
  5. Are you the type to try and vary what you do each day, or are you stuck in a routine? 1) I never do anything the same way twice, and it's not intentional! lol! I'm a clutz 2) I'm so stuck in a rut, you'd need a front end loader to dig me out 3) I'm stuck, I feel safe being stuck, so leave me alone, while I stay stuck!! 4) I'm so flexible if I bend over backwards I'd end up in traction. 5) I have no idea what Ann is talking about!! She must of had a rough weekend!!!
  6. Do You Know the Way to San Jose
  7. Dennis had radiation for the cancer in his spine. It really helped to relieve the pain. The chemo really did nothing to help with the cancer in the spine but the radiation was very helpful. Hope you're feeling better.

    T-G-I-F - LOL

A businessman got on an elevator. When he entered, there was a blonde already inside who greeted him with a bright, "T-G-I-F." He smiled at her and replied, "S-H-I-T." She looked puzzled and repeated, "T-G-I-F," more slowly. He again answered, "S-H-I-T." The blonde was trying to keep it friendly, so she smiled her biggest smile and said as sweetly as possibly, "T-G-I-F." The man smiled back to her and once again said, "S-H-I-T." The exasperated blonde finally decided to explain. " 'T-G-I-F' means 'Thank Goodness It's Friday.' Get it, duuhhh?" The man answered, " 'S-H-I-T' means 'Sorry, Honey, It's Thursday!' "

    Perspective

Debi, I love this post. Today was one of those days that I really do need to be reminded of how lucky I really am.
  16. I definitely believe there is a better place that has been prepared for us and how we live in this life determines whether we are allowed to live on in the "better place." Since losing Dennis, I have come to believe that this "better place" may not be so very far away. I sometimes think that this "better place" is so close that there are times "this place -earth") and the "better place" actually can become one for brief periods of time. Like others, I watched for days as Dennis had one foot in this world and the other foot in another. There were times when he was completely lucid and was having conveersations with people that I was unable to see. The Hospice nurse taught me to pay special attention to things Dennis would say and do in those last days, as she believed every word and action had a deeper meaning. Because of my faith, I simply cannot allow myself to believe that "this is all there is." There has to be more.
  17. My heart is breaking for your mom and all she is going through right now. The pain that cancer causes to patients and family members shouldn't be ampliefied by finances right now. Many of us have dealt with Hospice, either in-home or at one of their facilities. Most experiences have been good ones. Please check with Social Security and express your needs to them. It's my understanding that cancer patients, in some circumstances, don't have such a long wait time before their Medicare goes into action. Possibly, Medicaid (run by each state) could help you in the meantime. I do understand what your mom is dealing with, as I too had to work to keep the insurance going for my husband. I'll be keeping your family in my prayers.
  18. So very sorry that things aren't going well right now. Please know that we are thinking of both you and your sister and saying prayers.
  19. SO very sorry that you are having such a tough time right now. You know, I think that fear can do a lot of different things to us and change us in the process. I'm sure your husband is facing fear headon. This is happening to him and maybe his hours of keeping himself involved in other things is his way of coping. I know you must be scared out of your wits. I know I was. I had no idea what to expect and no idea of what I was facing. Often, we do tend to lash out the most at the people we love the most. I don't think it's uncommon for couples facing a crisis to have these problems. I don't think you necessarily need marriage counseling but I do think you should both have a nice, long open talk and let each other know just what you are feeling. Maybe your husband feels that he is a burden for you and that's why he keeps occupied so much of the time. Just talk to each other....it's great therapy!
  20. What ever happened to Cindy Williams aka Shirley Feeney from Laverne and Shirley?
  21. Cat people will understand totally...... __________________________ Where do pets come from? A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to "Where do pets come from?" Adam and Eve said, "Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us." And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves." And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail. And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal." And God said, "I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name by spelling it backwards, and you will call him DOG." And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them. And they were comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail. After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well". And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration." And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve. And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings. And Adam and Eve learned humility. And they were greatly improved. And God was pleased. And Dog was happy. And Cat didn't give a sh*t one way or the other.
  22. My favorite "strange" thing to eat a sandwich, made of Cheese Whiz and strawberry jam. This was Dennis' favorite snack and I couldn't believe he could actually eat this!!! Then, he finally got me to taste it one day and I've been hooked for years.
  23. I know this has been asked before, but I don't remember all the answers. And I as I sit here eating one of my 'strange' things, I just started wondering about everyone else again.... What do you eat that others might consider a little 'strange'?
  24. actually saw an interview with Lynda Carter about a year ago, talking about being Wonder Woman. She's still acting, and I most recently saw her in Hope and Faith (sitcom) last year.
