Hi Christine, welcome to the family. It is so fortunate that your cancer was caught in the early stages. This forum has members diagnosed at all stages, and your voice is as important as those of us in later stages. I was diagnosed 3 years ago at inoperable Stage 3b, had chemo and radiation, am on a targeted therapy and am NED. Live your life and enjoy yourself. Don't let survivor's guilt get in your way.

Hi Christine please don't feel guilty. Cancer is a huge shock and life changing event regardless of stage. It brings with it the same fears and emotions. Luckily advances in treatment have come so far that there are success stories of many people with stage 4 lung cancer. There's hope and treatment at every stage. Yes the higher the stage, the more the cancer has progressed but no stage is hopeless. Also the stages are used to guide treatment for example treatment for stage 1 is different from treatment for stage 3. Most people with stage 3 aren't candidates for surgery. My mum was diagnosed with stage 3B and she couldn't have surgery but she had radiotherapy, chemo and immunotherapy and she's been NED for over 2 years. She has her routine scan next week so fingers crossed that she's still NED.

I'm so pleased to hear that the surgery was a success Justin. I checked everyday for an update from you and am so pleased to hear that you're doing well. Although cancer brings a lot of downs, there can also be ups in the journey. Enjoy those ups and I'll keep on praying for you and everybody else to have plenty of ups. It sounds very positive. Hopefully the biopsy will give some more answers in terms of mutations and suitable treatments if needed now or in the future.
Never apologize for feeling low. Nobody can be strong and positive all the time. It's also good to let your feelings out and talk them through with others. Xxx

    Hi everyone
Sorry I haven't updated yet I wanted to get as much info as possible before I did, I had the procedure done on Friday and it was a great success they got the tumor out and now my right side has come back to life within 3 days I can now move around, the coordination is getting better too, there is some swelling and bleeding but they are really pleased with the results, I have no pain because they only cut through the scalp and skull and not much muscle I had a headache on and off Saturday and Sunday but nothing bad, the dexamethasone steroids are much worse than the operation itself I hate taking them lol,
They said they will send the tumor away for biopsy tests and see what it actually is but they're pretty sure it is the lung cancer I just hope there is something I can take if or  when it grows back but right now I feel a lot better in myself about it all, I am really sorry I was down last week I feel like I let everyone down and made my family and all of you down with me I try to be supportive and wasn't,
My friend has just been diagnosed with throat cancer and in his neck, I will support him through this the best way possible,
I hope everyone is well and thankyou again for all the love and support I really couldn't have done this without you all and my family and friends and my puppy bonnie has been an absolute angel through this journey almost like she was sent from heaven to help me I love her so much and now hopefully can get back to walking her ,
All the best Take care Justin x

I'm sorry to hear this Lily. I feel at times that I've been royalled screwed over by life as well. My brother was born with a rare brain tumor, although it was benign it messed up his life and caused huge disability. My dad died when I was 14 and my mum was diagnosed with inoperable stage 3B lung cancer in Feb 2020 so I feel your pain. All the misfortune in my life makes me constantly worried more bad things will happen. I'm constantly scared that I too will get cancer or a brain tumor.
Whilst I can't say much that will make you feel better I feel yoyr pain. Fate can be a b***h. It feels raw at the moment but it will start to sink in and you'll feel a bit more positive. Skin cancer from what I've heard isn't a difficult cancer to treat and another cancer like lung cancer that has seen huge advances in treatment. I believe that the first immunotherapy was used for skin cancer and saw extremely successful results.
You and you husband can both get through it. We're here for you xx

That sounds really promising and hopeful Justin. I'm so glad that the neurosurgeon seems lovely and reassuring. It really makes a difference when the doctors have good bedside manners and don't give up on patients. My mum luckily has a wonderful oncologist but she had some terrible doctors before. One of them really didn't give a f**k and was so dismissive and not very knowledgeable and treated my mum like an idiot. For some doctors it's all a status and power thing- they don't really care about the patients.
I'm so glad that the team have stepped up and have taken your concerns seriously. It sounds like you're in good hands. Hopefully the surgery will do the trick. Some treatments work for some but not for others. There's plenty of new treatments out there. It sounds like the treatment for your lung tumour was successful though.
I'm thinking of you. Brain surgery sounds scary but over the years the techniques and successful have really improved. Now they can even do awake brain surgery (the patient is awake but they're still sedated and don't feel anything) in order to reduce the risk of brain damage.
It's normal to be worried but I'm sure it will be fine. It seems like you're in good hands and things are getting back on track. Plus you've got your family and friends behind you. What a lovely family you have. Strength, support and positivity from family and friends is so important.

@catlady91, my ex-brother-in-law had melanoma years ago and did, in fact, receive immunotherapy for it. He's been cancer-free for a long time now.
