  1. yes, i also don't know why government does allow it happen, we here Hong Kong is proposing to ban people smoking in public area such as restaurant, bar, karaoke etc.....because Hong Kong is a high density residential area. I can't wait it can be realized. I hope cigarette can disappear in this world.
  2. I am sorry that your dad probably got lung cancer. But it's not diagnosed yet, right? But you find this website right, many of us can provide some information or knowledge or experience to you. Don't worry too much...too soon to worry.
  3. Thanks for your sharing. Fortunately I saw it before you take it away from this board.
  4. How's sweet!! I believe you fight for him.
  5. David, waiting for your good news.....praying for NED.
  6. i am so unhappy to hear about this news...but it's really good for him and for you to have him wheeled down the aisle with you on such a special day. This's a precious memory...he loves you so much.... Take your time. It must be hard for you as a new bride. I hope time will ease your pain.
  7. Yes, the grieving process takes time...I also had such experience that the sadness is just overwhelming. When I first came home, I can't stop crying as no dad in house anymore... 2 months after dad's gone, I was working near that hospital (Dad's) for 1 week, whenever I exited the train station, my heart ached everyday. I can't afford it. 2 weeks ago, I got to that hosptial with my mom for meeting her doctor (same hospital again), I felt very uncomfortable being there again as I hated that hospital so much....emotionally I thought this hospital took my dad's life....certainly I know this is not the fact....funny thing is - this hospital is where I was born. I fully understand your feelings.....but things get better now I know....the pain is lessening...God bless you.
  8. Dear Dr Joe I really don't know what's going on because I think I missed many threads. Anyway, really welcome back, you are the light and the hope and the help of all our patients and caregivers. You mean so much to this board, mean so much to everyone who are here without much knowledge and help as well as hope. We all appreciate all your help and your presence in this board. I know you may get frustration by here, but God and many of us really appreciate your efforts. Thank you again.
  9. Rosegarden, I am so so sorry for what you and your family are experiencing. Please Please -- don't give up as your mom has never started any treatments yet...the current most important thing is to get your mom start the treatment immediately....how's her current situation? Did the oncologist mention when they can start chemo..and radiation etc? Now what hinders the treatment? Can those be overcome as to start the chemo immediately? Since your mom was just dx in November, she has never been treated in terms of targeting the cancer. Please ask the oncologist for the treatment if the situation of your mom is allowed...I am sorry that what you're facing is the most terrible, most upset moment, but hope is always just around the corner. Keep us posted or vent as you wish anytime that we will be here to listen. My best regards to you and your dad, your grandma.....prayers sent for your dear mom.
  10. Hi Karen, you and David, and Faith always in my thought. I will pray hard for you guys especially David. I hope that those peas aren't the mets. I really appreciate your love to David and Faith and David's fighting spirit and positive attitude. Keep us posted my dear.
  11. Jen, I am so happy for you....yes, keep the positive attitude and fighting hard.....
  12. I am so so sorry I am so unhappy to know about what's happened on your dad. His confusion may be caused by the brain mets. For your wedding, I am so touched that you make it forward, I'm just thinking that is it possible to let him on the aisle with you? It will be a very beautiful picture if he could be at your side, it is a memorable moment. Can someone like your mom helping him? It will mean a lot to your dad. Don't give up, I will pray for your dear dad. Please get him happy and don't let him give up.
  13. I am sorry. But I strongly suggest to have the whole brain radiation or some other treatments such as gamma knife or surgery etc to handle the brain mets.....at least should try......please ask the oncologist or the neurosurgeon the possibility of these treatments....it will make her life more easier and don't give up so soon.....

    The dying process

Please know that you did all things right, in my dad's case, there is no relationship between the death and the morphine. My dad just took the minimum dosage (Oral) around 4 days before his gone. He left this world 4 days after the first dose of morphine. So I don't think morphine kills as my dad took the minimum dose. At end of his days while he was walking into death, he gradually can't eat, he easily choked while eating and drinking then everyday just declining. We insisted to feed him food and my beloved dad insisted to eat as we all treat this as a need to get enough energy to maintain being strong. But nurse strongly requested us to tube-feed him (milk) as it's easy for him getting choke and pnuemonia if food goes into lung. Lastly, we quited to feed him and my dad agreed to get the tube-feed. He left all decision to us as at that moment, he can't speak out already. He can just move his right side body and his head. He can't see, he can't talk. I will forever remember the last few hours, nurse can draw the milk through the tube out from his stomach, nurse told us his stomach was not working any more as he is dying. Sharyn, please know that when one's dying, all the functions are declining to a stage that it's automatically stopped. This is not your fault or other's. Please forgive yourself and others then you will feel much much better. Guilty and Anger do hurt you.
  15. I pray that these are nothing related to cancer. I will pray hard for you and your whole family. Hang in there and fight hard, you are the hero.
  16. hope your sister will be all fine with the chemo.
  17. Cheryl, I am so happy that you have a good doctor that he will give you the best and the most suitable game plan. Hope all go well and keep us posted. You are in my prayer.

    not sure what to do

Can your dad do the test or biopsy now in another lab/hospital? Prostrate cancer is far better & easier treated and cured in comparing with Lung cancer. Early diagnosis is the key to cure. I strongly suggest to go for a check now instead of few months later. Don't be too worry, it probably turns out is not that bad as you think. Keep us posted, dear.
  20. either CT or MRI can detect brain mets. Consult the oncologist. Brain Scan normally will do right after diagnosis, it's a part of detecting how widespread the cancer is initially.
  21. Dear all friends, I met mom's doctor yesterday and the MRI result is normal. For the problem of noise making from her throat, doctor cannot explain why and it probably is caused by neurosurgery in the past but he cannot tell the reason why it happens. He asked my mom if this really bothers her daily life so they can prescribe some meds to her. We both think this is unnecessary as they can't assure this problem would be stopped by taking the meds and moreover, there is side effect. So we leave it aside. Thanks for all your prayers and I am thankful that I have all of you as my supporting friends. Wishing all of you a healthy and happy Year 2005.
  22. Good to see you drop some lines, hope there is nothing new in the coming year but maintain NED.
  23. I think your oncologist is doing a proper thing. Glad that you tolerate well with the low dose CPT-11.
  24. Yes, I'm always thinking about Carleen and Keith, hope they are fine.
  25. I did have a happy Christmas time with my hubby and family. Hope you also enjoyed the holiday.
