Bruce. About a year and a half before Tom was diagnosed with LC his test happy cardiologist ordered an abdominal CT and ultrasound. The reason behind it the doc said is that he was a male over 55 and had previously been a smoker. This can lead to abdominal aneurysms. Tom went for the test and they did find one. They went and put a stent in through small incisions in both sides of the groin just like they do for an angiogram. He spent overnight in the hospital and 3 days later was back at work. I don't think that they would be checking for cancer I think they just want to make sure there ae not other things going on. This Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, AAA as they call it tends to be more prevelent in males than in females and is not related to cancer in any way. Better to be safe then sorry. Denise

Well the results are in. In addition to the main tumor there are numerous hot spots in both breasts. Martha states that she has thought long and hard these past couple of weeks and has decided that she will have a double mastectomy. If any of the lymph nodes are cancerous she will remove all those as well. She will now make an appt with a plastic surgeon to talk about implants. After she has the sugery and has her healing time she will have either radiation or chemo. That has yet to be determined. CANCER SUCKS!!! Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. It is breast cancer. Not the news we were hoping to hear. The dx is Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma. The tumor is about an inch all around. She will go for another MRI with contrast on Monday and then they will set her up for surgery. Martha and I both thank you all for your prayers, vibes and good thoughts. She was very touched. My best friend in the whole world had her mammogram come back bad. She went for a second mamm, MRI and an ultrasound today. The doc came back in and told her that there is a large mass at 4 o'clock in her right breast that looks like cancer. She will have a needle biopsy on Wednesday with results on Thursday. Any and all good thoughts, vibes, prayers and anything alse you can throw her way would be appreciated. Denise

I've been a little AWOL from the boards just being a worry wart. I'm stressing because 2 weeks my bro went to the ER and was told he had pneumonia. They gave him scripts for meds and sent him home. He later finds out that his new insurance kicked in a goes to a doctor for follow up. They send him for a bunch of test including an angio and they say he NEVER HAD PNEUMONIA. He was in full blown congestive heart failure. It turns out that he has Dilated Cardiomyopathy. A far cry from pneumonia for sure. He will go back to the cardiologist on 6/23 to DISCUSS his condition and let him know if at just 50 years old if they will permanently take him out of the work force. Just when I think I can relax, something else pops up. On another note Jayla turned 3 yesterday. She is with her mom for the weekend so I am hoping to get a bit of downtime and recoup a few brain cells. Denise

Good luck Ann. I would most likely stop at 2 pieces as I would not want to appear to be a gluton. With all that extra food I would need to leave room to enjoy it. $7.00 is a sure bargain. I think I need to make my way to FL. Denise

The Onc concurs with the report and was almost in tears reporting the good news. The Onc said that he would not have passed the board exams with the way he went about treating Tom. He said it was definitely out of the box but you just have to give people a chance no matter the stage because you never know who is going to be in the top 10% of responders. All of Tom's bloodwork came back within perfect range as well. Now if we can just get rid of that darn cough. The next appt will be on 7/16. They will not scan him again at that point but it's funny that it just happens to be on the 1 year anniversary from the last treatment. The next CT will be in 4 months. The 29th of May will mark 16 months from dx. Denise

The written report states that there is marked improvement compared to the previous study. Abnormal metabolic activity corresponding to the large right hilar mass on the previous exam is NO LONGER PRESENT. Subcarinal lymph node and liver mets have also resolved. There is mild increased activity in the right lower lobe with an SUV of approx 2.7. This is felt to most likely represent post radiation fibrosis. There is also a small right pleural effusion. The OFFICIAL results appt is on Monday but me being me I asked for a copy before we left the hospital and it came in the mail today. As I said before, me and waiting don't mix. I think when all is said and done. WE SHOULD BE DANCING, YEAH!!!! DANCING, YEAH!! Denise
