    SSDI Questions

Hi everyone, I've decided to apply for ssdi as it looks like my being off a year from work is a true possiblity(working on 11 months), what would i put down as my disablity? The lung cancer is gone, severe dsypnea and fatique ,and asthma have replaced it. Thanks in advance David A
  8. Don I read somewhere on the net that asthmatics(sic) have a higher incident of LC if they smoke(which was me), not sure how valid it is I was never diagnosed as a child with asthma, was dx when I was 29 with it, my mother told me a few months ago she believes I had asthma as a child as I always coughed a lot, we just didn't go to the doctor much those days, plus I started smoking around 13 yo . I bet I read that on www.webmd.com I used to read lots of struff there. Take caare all, stay well Mike and Lucie!
  9. With all this great news makes me want to put on my little chearleading outfit, that would be a site all 6'4" 280 lbs of me in a cheerleaders outfit, that would scare any cancer cells away! Shaved off my goatee today and feel kinda naked! So happy for you JudyB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David A

  12. HI Cindy, I echo Ginny's thoughts on statistics, doctors don't know how long someone has . I was never given statistics I found them on the internet myself, I thought i was a goner didn't see any reason for me to buy any new clothes or spend money on myself, that feeling has since changed. I was dx squamous cell stage 3a/b was given taxol and carbo 3 weeks apart, the tumor in my lung shrank tremendously after 2 treatments , the surgeon tried to give me another mediastinoscopy(sic) and couldn't get down there due to scar tissue and he decided to due the lobectomy anyways 10+ months later I doing well have some minor problems, but I'm alive and able to due a lot of things and there is no cancer in me right now. Hope I've helped you some. David A
  13. Hi Ideawizard, I'm in the Detroit area also, but on the other side of town. Your step sister is also close to Gilda's club, perhaps you could contact them and they might have some support for your sis, as well as send some one for her to talk too. Do a search for Gilda's club and I'm quite sure you will find a web site for them and I know that they have a lung cancer support network also. Good luck and best to you both. David A
  14. Welcome CindiS, I hope you find some answers to help you here and that your mother finds some relief from her pain ASAP. David A

  16. I agree so much with a patient advocate. I see 4 differnt doctors at the same institution and it seems like none of them want to do follow up, they keep passing the ball. My wife works there also, the Rad onc. and Surgeon were planning on doing chest x-rays for follow ups she raised a stink and asked them to do at least cat scan. I think I've mentioned to each doctor that the institution needs cordinators for paitients who see more then one doctor for their care and a few of them have agreed, sometimes I don't know who to call when I have question being a layman and all. Thanks for listening, David A
  17. Patti Ann, I am so sorry and I will be praying for you each and every day. The woman in the picutre with me is my sister Patti Ann, she has been so very supportive of me through out my cancer treatment and actually my whole life (minus teen years as I am only 13 months older then her ) I hope things take a turn for the good for you! David A
  18. Hi Mary I tolerated taxol and carbo well, in fact after two doses of chemo, it reduced the tumor size enough that the docs decided to operate after all, had a few side effects for the 1st 4 or five day after every treatment and a little numbnesss in my toes bnut overall better then the alternative. Best wishes for your sister and you. David A

  24. HI Janet, I was iniatally told I probably wouldn't be a candidate for surgery by my oncoclogist, after my 1st round of chemo I was coughing up blood so my oncologist ordered a another cat scan that showed considerable shrinkage in the tumor. Like you I wanted surgery and I am glad that it was done even with all the side effects. Please feel free to email me, I would be happy to share with you and too support you. take care David A
