Heather,
If I were closer, I'd hobble along, lol. I thank you for doing this.

I don't think the onc would tell you something that couldn't be true.
My heart goes out to you as you endure more wait. I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way.

I hope you are doing ok. I know you asked for prayers and we gave more than prayer (whether you wanted it or not) and I hope you aren't offended. I want you to know that our hearts went out to you. I'm sorry if we hurt you.

I know you could be happier, but happy is good, too!
You know, you did a mighty fine job of reading the scans! What did you find that decreased uptake means?

I am not sure you addressed Donna's questions and concerns. One thing to note is that while there are new oral dose therapies, most medicare patients will not have these covered until the year 2006. Further, uninsured, under insured and people, like me, without prescription coverage but who do not earn a little more than a poverty level income are not eligible for these drugs. Thus, in some ways, these newer therapies again draw lines and thus create another set of haves and have nots. It can't be said enough times that the fact that such discrepencies exist in this country is abominable.
A capitalistic economy does not have to include discrepancies in health care.

Peggy,
I just don't have a clue, but it does sound better to me. You know I am praying for you and your husband. It sounds to me like you have the right questions to ask!

My body temperature fluctuates beween 96 and 97.4. Rarely any higher unless I am sick. Usually, it is about 96.2.

is your company large? Maybe they could sponsor a quit smoking clinic at the workplace. It is easier for people to quit smoking if they have a support group. Maybe this could be in conjunction with the lc walk! Just one way that things could be so that no one has to avoid anyone's eyes and so that you will feel like you helped (and you might be subjected to less second hand smoke!)

Why are you seeing the surgeon in three weeks and not seeing an onc in the meantime? (I do realize you need to see the surgeon).
Can you get a referal? I hope so!
love and fortitude and wishes for the best of all results!

My two cents.
Everyone who smokes knows they shouldn't smoke. Anyone beyond their mid to late twenties probably think that the possibility of dying from smoking exists. (The very young often feel invincible). It is an addiction. I doubt the presence of Heather or Kim's hat is going to stop an addicted person from smoking. I don't mean this to sound mean-spirited.
As those of us who have rasied children know, guilt and shame do not change behavior in a postive way. Guilt and shame do change behavior, however. In your example, the people avoid you or looking into your eyes. It has not stopped them from smoking.
If you have friends who smoke, and if you care about them, let them know that you will do anything you can to support their efforts to quit because you don't want them to face what you have faced.
None of these smokers wish to do you harm nor do they wish to be looked down on. People are human and do stupid human things. Some of us do more stupid things than others.

I posted this on another thread, but I am moving it to this one.
I wonder too. I have never been treated for the condition, but have had symptoms all my adult life. Drs always thought I had either hyper and then thought I had hyp--so I would be tested and then the results would come up normal. I have since found out that the tests do not catch quite a few people who actually ha ve a thryroid disorder.
To this day, I can't say that I do, but that I have had symptoms and a very low normal body temperature, which it is coming to be known is just about indicative of a thyroid condition.
I have also read that a low body temp can cause people to be more susceptable to cancer because the body is not warm enough for cells to do what they need to do--(not a very good medical description ) -
I am wondering if anyone else has ever noticed that their body temperature is low==chronically low prior to DX.

It reminds me of the recent posts in the Joke forum--about chickens and eggs.

I KNOW I HAVE TO TALK REAL LOUD BECAUSE FRANK IS IN ALASKA, AND ALASKA IS FARTHER AWAY FROM ME THAN PA IS.
FRANK, I USUALLY HATE TO HAVE TO BE THE ENGLISH TEACHER, BEINGS I MAKE A LOT OF TYPOS MYSLEF, BUT BARE IS NOT A NOUN.
BARE IS AN ADJECTIVE. ADJECTIVES DESCRIBE THINGS (NOUNS).
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE:
BEARS ARE BARE--AS IN THEY DON'T WEAR ANY CLOTHES, WHICH IS WHY THEY HAVE ALL THAT CUDDLY FUR YOU LOVE-- 'COS IT'S COLD UP THERE WHERE THEY LIVE. THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T VACATION IN HAWAII--NO BEARS!
I WONDER HOW LOUD I WOULD HAVE TO TALK IF YOU WERE IN HAWAII.

Sounds great, Ray!

Oh goodness, Frank, a whole mountain of Bears! I bet it makes your heart skip a beat just thinking of it!

I had never heard that statistic about those who quit having an increased risk for the first five years. Wow! I quit unsuccessfully several times in the last five years--sometimes for long periods, and smoked way less when I did smoke. The thing I had noticed is that having never coughed, once I quit and cut down, I began to cough.
Oddly enough, since DX, I don't cough more than a couple of throat clearing coughs a day. One reason my DX was delayed is that I had a bad cough last fall, that worried me. Our family was reeling from the sudden death of my sister in law, so I told myself just to wait until after Thanksgiving to go to the Dr. My cough disappeared. So I thought might as well wait until after Christmas. .....

Call it the rebel in me, but I am going to ask: Why do men get five points for this (or any LOL)?

I am going to kick this one up since the deadline is soon apporoaching.
I also think maybe a person should apply IF they just think that Iressa might be something needed in his or her future-- I don't know if that is possible or not, though, but it might be worth checking with the SSA.
Thanks for the reminder to those who may need this!

Well, since there's bears, I hope you remembered to bring your cowboy hat!

Your posts bring tears to my eyes. But they also tell me that you are strong and are getting along even though you hurt.
I don't visit my mom at the cemetary often either. You know, she is not there, she is with you and in you and everything you do.
I don't think you are being selfish, but do try to find the joy in seeing your friend's happiness. Lots of happy times can bring tears of regret.
love you and wish for you fortitude in abundance

Sharyn,
Thinking of you and your dear parents. I am sorry you are struggling right now. It's a good sign when they suggest the gamma knife. I will continue to send good thoughts your way!

Cat,
Be safe, my friend. Let us know when you get home. Dreams are the way we work through things and they can also be just manifestations of our fears.
