luvmydad Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Dads mediastinoscopy did not yield the results we were hoping for. It was positive for lymph node involvement. So no surgery, for now anyway. The drs said to not rule it out that it is still a possibility after chemo and radiation. They told him not to give up that he has a great chance of beating this. He will go back the week after Thanksgiving to be given his radiation and chemo "recipe" and we will start from there. I found it very interesting that they told him today that he has probably had this cancer for 5 to 10 years? So we remain positive and ready to fight. When I know what his tx will be I will post that. Thanks for the prayers, and please keep on praying for us. Teresa Quote
Don M Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Teresa: I am sorry your dad can't have surgery now, but he still has a good shot at cure like they said. Don M Quote
Muriel Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Sorry your dad can't have the surgery now. What a disappointment. I think the Dr. sounds optimistic about surgery in the future. Good luck. Muriel Quote
mary colleen Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I'm glad that the doctor is so optimistic. My husband also has squamous cell LC, and we were also told it had probably been there for a long time - squamous is slow to grow and develop. It is also slower or less likely to spread distantly. Maryanne Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Sorry you dad is not a candidate for surgery. But with the proper treatment and shrinkage it will be a possibility. Keep that positive attitude and right, NEVER GIVE UP!! Maryanne Quote
Andrea Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I am sorry the news is not what you wanted. My mom had the same thing with the mediastonoscopy and her chemo shrunk it enough to allow for surgery a few months later. Keep us updated. Quote
dtay Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Hi My Dad had a similar chat with his Onc - they said that he had prob had it for well over 2 yrs - he has squamous cell too. Dawn Quote
luvmydad Posted November 20, 2007 Author Posted November 20, 2007 Thanks for all your encouraging replies. This past weekend was worrisome for us. The mediastinoscopy was outpatient and John Hopkins where dad had it done is 3 hours from our home. Dad started running a fever Friday night after he got home and was in bed with a fever all day Saturday. It got up to 102.4 at one point. We where really starting to get worried that he had infection or was getting pneumonia. But the fever finally broke late Sat. night and he continued to feel better Sunday. Thankfully he was able to go back to work today. God is good! Keep my dad in your prayers please. Teresa. Quote
