  1. I can so relate to this thread, lol. I am a group sales manager at a large resort hotel and the very 1st group I had after dx was Philip Morris! Boy it was hard to work that one, lol. I however, was professional, and didn't exactly blame the folks I dealt with for my lung cancer. I DID tell them about it however, lol.

  2. The day from Hades................ I woke up this morning feeling like Snowflakes beer truck ran over me! I am still fighting some type of bug and it got the best of me last night. Didn't sleep more than an hour or two all night. Anyway, I got dressed (slowly) and made it over to the hospital for my refill. Nurses took one look at me and said I was just in time, lol. I was spiking a fever all day so they kept giving me stuff to try and deal with that in addition to my blood. I have more energy since the transfusion but I still feel crappy from whatever I am fighting. One nurse seems to think I have a sinus infection and another seems to think I have a kidney infection. Neither one showed up on the tests they ran today so who knows whats going on, lol.

I didn't go to work after I was done, I came home and tried to sleep but the phone would NOT STOP! People from work, people from church, my kids, all calling to see how I was doing, lol (I don't dare turn it off or they will COME over to check on me). To top it off my Son called to tell me my ex inlaws showed up out of the blue for a 4 day visit on their way from Nevada to Minnesota! I guess we are all going to go to dinner tomorrow night (if I am up to it).

Well, I am going to load myself up on meds and see if I can't get some sleep tonight.

Thank you all for the good wishes and prayers!

  3. The silly thing is I feel GREAT! I just don't have the energy or stamina God gave a sea slug, lol. Makes it that much worse cause I WANT to do things I just can't right now. I am sure I will be feeling 1000% better by this time tomorrow and thanks for the good wiahes!

  4. These things mean so much to kids :D ! I remember (as a Mom) we had 8 lizards, 2 tarantulas, a pack rat and a horned toad all collected by my son. My daughter was more in to domestic animals so she had 2 kittens (which ATE the pack rat and lizards) . As a kid I collected a nest of garter snakes (about 100) and was REALLY upset when my Mom wouldn't let me keep all of them  .

Hope you have a lot of fun with watching them change!

  5. After spending a weekend not being able to do squat, I had them check my counts today and it looks like I am a couple of pints low again. HGB was down to 8.5 so we are going to do a transfusion at 7am tomorrow. I always get a kick out of the gals in Out Patient at the hospital when I go for my morning shots cause they always ask if I think I am going to need anything else. They know that I know when I need something and they are so good about helping me out. This morning they went ahead and drew the blood for a CBC and type and cross THEN called the Dr for the order after his office opened, lol. As long as I was there for my shot they didn't want me to have to come back later for the draw. It sure makes this whole process easier when you have great people to deal with!

  6. Hot Days / Cold Days / Hot AND Cold days/ fatigue / all common side effects and all will go away when treatment is completed. As has been said, it is just proof that the chemo is doing something. Hair loss was hard to take BUT it grows back and you can always start a pool to see what color it will come back as and if it will be curley or straight! Mine came back pure white the first time and is almost black this time (and I have dyed it red for so many years THIS is hard to get used to).

Your wife and family are in my prayers!

  7. When my sclc came back they gave me one dose of Topotecan and then changed me to Carbo / Taxol with the Taxol every week and the Carbo every 3rd week. It has helped with my lymph nodes but not so much with my liver so far. I have been lucky (thank you God) to not have much pain but when I do I take Darvocet-N 100 and it seems to take it away. Your Mom and family will be in my prayers.

  8. Star,

DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO STATISTICS! According to the "statistics" I died 3 months ago (or longer). They are old, out of date and mean very little today. As long as your Dad is breathing there is hope! SO many things have changed. I was dx'd with sclc last year. Had chemo and went in to remission, had pci and came out of remission with mets to lymph and liver and have been on a new round of chemo since but I AM STILL HERE! I enjoy every day I have and live each day as if it is a gift (which it is). There is treatment for your Dad if it is what he wants.

You will be in my prayers,

    MO

  9. Welcome to the family. I am sorry you have to be here but glad you found us. I am also in my 40's and have been fighting this beast for almost a year. Good news is I AM STILL HERE TO FIGHT IT!! Please do not pay attention to the statistics. Be sure your Mom's medical team is willing to be aggresive (if that is what she wants) and she has a good chance of fighting this.

We are all here for each other so please, don't be a stranger and invite your Mom to visit if she like also.

    You are in my prayers,

    God Bless,

    MO

  10. Sweetie, I lost both my parents within 6 months of each other. My Mom in Oct of 1992 and my Dad in March of 1993 and I still miss them all the time! I can tell you the crushing pain will diminish with time but the pain of losing them will always be there. I catch myself once in awhile picking up the phone to call me Mom ( boy I don't want THAT long Distance bill) and then it hits me that I can't call her. I just sit down and "talk" to her and that helps a lot. Time is the only thing that will help and I am praying for strength and healing for you.

    God Bless,

    MO

  11. I get a chest x-ray each month, a CT scan every 3 months, a blood test every week and a liver profile every 4th week. Had an MRI and bone scan at dx but not since.

So far this has been telling them what they need to know to be able to treat me.

Prayers and good wishes being sent your way.

    God Bless,

    MO

  12. Usually burping is caused when we swallow to much air either in eating, drinking or when we talk. In my case, it comes whenever I eat green veggies (always) or oriental foods.

    Best wishes,

  13. (((((Ginny))))),

I am so sorry things are down for you right now! Be sure they check Duke's blood counts! It could be he is running a quart low and just needs a refill or maybe he picked up one of the bugs running around right now. I felt like cra* on Tuesday but I am feeling like dancing today! The Duke, your sister, your friend and YOU are all in my prayers sweetie. Hang in there and there are lots of ears and shoulders here when you need them!

    God Bless,

    MO

  14. Angel,

GET A SECOND OPINION! Just because the cancer is in other parts of the body should not mean they can't do chemo. In fact chemo would be better than radiation in getting to the other areas!

I have mets to the liver and lymphs and am getting chemo. Most people who have mets get chemo and they respond pretty well.

I think your dad needs to look at geting a better medical team together to help him fight this cause it can be fought!

Prayers for strength and healing headed your way!

    God Bless,

    MO
