  1. Becky,

I hope all goes well with your new house. I know how fusterating waiting can be. We put a 2nd story addition on our house 2 1/2 years ago, and still waiting to move up. Were doing it ALL ourselves, and between the kids and Steve having to be on swing shift at the railroad, we can never seem to find enough time... So heres hoping that you and me both get into our new construction soon... we miss ya!

  2. David,

Man! You and my Dad MUST have been seperated at birth. My dad is so DOWN in the dumps because he isnt going to make his annual trip down to Burbanais Il. to see the Bears train, that hes not even enjoying the fact that he's NED, or the fact that the surgeon told him that he wont have to go back in for more surgery! You boys are so SO silly! (Just joking) I do get it though. Doing WHAT you want to do When you want to do it sounds great to me...

By the way... HUMIDITY here is ridiculous!!! We just got hit with some NASTY storms yesterday and today... did you get em too? Seeing were neighbors and all. Michigan is just a hop away...

  3. Joni,

We all deal differently. When my dad was dx'd I didnt cry and break down (like everyone expected me too), I just thought.... OK what now. My family was like "What?? No Breakdown?". I just thought well, what can I do? Cry?Sulk? Get mad?. I think its great that you have so much strength to do what you need to do. People would KILL for your kind of strength. Your doing great, but just remember...give your self the time to grieve, but do it in your own way. You dont have to be falling apart, maybe its just not how you operate

  4. Good afternoon Everyone! Its a swealtering 93 degrees here in Sunny Chicago, and the humidity has hit the roof today!

My dad saw the surgeon yesterday, and now he has completly changed his tune. They decided NOT to open him back up because they dont want to ruin the good 3 1/2 weeks of healing hes got goin for him. Yesterdays x-ray looked alot better. As for as the windpipe thing, it has seemed to become unblocked, so thats good.

The doctor seems to think that Dad has just been expecting to much too soon as far as recovery. Thinks hes doing just fine, and the pain is to be expected.

Told my dad the dr. was telling him to stop being a baby

My dad thinks that he was just SO pumped up to go to Burbanais to watch the Bears Training, that he was rushing things... That trip of course is OUT...

But...the weird thing is that he says he feels 100% better today, and he thinks mentally he was stressing himself out with recovery becuause of trying to make the trip...and now that he KNOWS hes not going, he can relax and recooperate...

Thats all for now... thanks guys!

  5. Renee,

Dad had alot of swallowing problems do to radiation to the throat. He did have what he called "sunburn" like pain, and it was diffucult for him to eat or drink for awhile. He said drink nothing with bubbles (soda espically). He mostly stuck to water, or i would try flavored water. He ate alot of soup, rice and pound cake. The pain lasted for him all through radiation but cleared up about a week after he was done. Hope this helps!

  6. Andrea and anyone else who may know...

My dad hasnt had to take Iressa as of yet... but I was under the assumption that Iressa is for anyone that dosent need chemo or radiation, and that it would stop the spread....am I wrong? Ive also heard that Iressa is chemo in a bottle... whats the deal with this stuff? I feel dumb but I really dont know...

  7. Hi & welcome... Shelly as some good advice, espically the breathe part! Mt dad is farther along than your mom, but after chemo, radiation, and surgery... he is now cancer free. I hope your moms outcome is as great as my dads. She's so lucky to have caught it now rather than later. If everything works, she may be able to have that surgery! Be there for your mom, and ignore the statistics. Try and stay off the web... this is the best place for questions (ive found)... Keep us posted, and if you have any questions... feel free...

    Jamie

  8. Andrea,

Ya know the poll dosent apply to us, but just want you to tell your mom were all thinking of her, and hoping she finds something without all the side effects to help her!

  9. David, the big ugly dog is my husbands.. her name is Hadies, and shes an English Mastiff/Rottwiler mix... shes very dumb, and lazy. The little adorable puppy is mine.. Biggs and hes a Pug. My husband Steve thinks it would be HILARIOUS to mate these two. The big one hates the little one, and I think its because shes old (gonna be eight) and she dosent want to deal with the pups crap. He messes with her all day long!

Wish I could come to the bash, but we put an 2nd story addition on our house 2 1/2 years ago and were finally gonna be finishing and moving up. We work on it everyday, and we have to get in before fall. We put it up ourselves (my husbands the most capable handyman 26 year old I know), and are doing all the work ourselves, so its taking forever. I would have LOVED to have made it though. Your going I see, party hard for me Kay??

  10. Thanks everyone, Im just so worried. Im mad that we cant fully enjoy NED being here because of all of this. I think my Dads most upset because going to see the Bears is definitly out of the question, and hes pretty bummed. Oh well, theres always next year...

  11. Hi everyone...

Im sorry to report, but my Dad is having a really sh*tty week. Hes in so much pain, that he cant even drive a short distance.

That air and fluid bubble Ive been posting about has moved itself over into my Dads back, neck and arm. He meets with the surgeon once again on Wed.

They are going to do a test to see what the blockage is in his windpipe. They mentioned sticking the tube down his throat to see what is going on. Does anyone know what that test is called.

:D The good news is that now that they are sure NED is here, they think its just an infection, or something that didnt heal right with the surgery...

:x The bad news is that its SURGERY again!!!

I wil keep everyone posted when I find out more...

    Jamie
