annbenn Posted January 13, 2004 Share Posted January 13, 2004 Hi all! I just happened on this forum and had to tell my story. I am a 68 year old woman who smoked for 54years. This past September I had a chest xray and wow I had a tumor in the upper lobe of my left lung. After many different tests and a biopsy it was determied that the tumor was malignant and surgery was suggested as the best option. Well this 272 lb very out of shape old lady went for the surgery and made it through with flying colors. I was operated on December 3, 2003, home on December 10, 2003. The pain was not too bad, I am allergic to morphine so I was on a different pain killer than morphine and I was off the pain killers and oxygen by January 1, 2004. I still have some shortness of breath but loss of weight should help that and portions of my left side still feel numb but that is not hard to handle. The cancer had not invaded anywhere else so I do not have to have any kemo or radiation treatments. I just wanted to post this as a positive outlook for anyone else facing a lobectomy in the future. I believe that goes a long way in the fight that has been forced on you. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and please stay on top of this. Make sure you continue to follow up with tests along the way. That is very important.. Now I have a question. It is one of personal interest to me. How did you know that you are alergic to Morphine and what was your reaction to it?What were the symptoms and how were they handled? As I said my reasons for asking are to answer one of my many questions about my Johnny's treatment. I beleive too that information may help someone else should they find themselves in the same situation. Morphine is given so often in cancer treatment for pain and I have learned for other reasons. Knowing what to look for could be a major help to many people. Once again thanks for posting such good news. All of us here watch and wait everyday for that.
