  2. Joanie, you are an inspiration to the people who are diagnoised with SLCA... you are one of the statistic buster. WHO YA GONNA CALL JOANIE BUSTER!!!! Wonderful, Wonderful news. 36 months and counting!!!!!!! Cindi, round of drinks on Joanie. Maryanne
  3. Hi Bruce, My husband was operated and he was dx. with adren 1B and had a lobectomy upper left lung on Dec. 15, there were complications but thats another story, (read profile at bottom) He is doing much better now. He will also be getting carbo/toxel. His treatments will be 4, 3 weeks apart. Each session takes about 5 hours, so be prepared for that. I was told by many people here that you will not feel sick after. The initial treatment, but it most likely it will come on anywhere from 2 to 5 days after the You may feel fatigue, neausea and maybe have pain in your legs. this can last up to 5 days, then you will start to feel better and then better each day. You will not feel sick the whole 3 weeks!! Then you will have your next treatment, and it will start over again. Some people lose their hair, some don't and some just have it thinned. Some have neausea (there are pills to help that) and some don't. So you see everyone is different. Some doctors want to put a port in some will just use your veins if you have good veins. We are opting for the veins. Joel, has not had chemo yet, but Iam confident when he gains weight and feels less fatigued they will schedule his treatments. Good luck, you are very very fortunate to have been diagnoised with 1A, which is very curable. You made the right decision to have adjuntive (preventive) chemo. Good luck, Maryanne

    Saw Surgeon

Hi Beth, Sounds like your appointment with your surgeon had a positive effect on you. That is really encouraging. I have been thinking alot about you, Addie, Don and Lucie and have been sending out healing thoughts during my meditation sessions. Praying the Altima works, fingers and toes crossed. Take care, keep us informed as always. I have a strong feeling this is all going to turn out in your favor. Hang in there, Maryanne
  5. Hi June, Welcome here. Sorry you had to come here but we are a great group of people for knowledge and support. One thing you must learn, is don't listen to statistics. When you read other peoples posts you will see that they have beaten the odds. I could only imagine how devestatived you were to find out it had returned after all those years of being Cancer free. But, you have done this before and beat it, you can do it again, you have too. You want to see that grandchild don't you. Of course you do. Keep a positive attitude and fight with everything you got. Do not let that beast win. We are always here to listen and help. please take care Maryanne
  6. Hi Randi, I viewed your sons video, excellent job. He is adorable and such a joy to you and your hubby. You mention that your mom lights up when she sees him. How could she not.... he is adorable. Hopefully, if she stays in the hospital, they will let you bring him, so she can see him. If she goes home then she will definitely see he him again. My heart goes out to you. I don't know much about hospice but I heard they are a G-d sent to people. Maybe you can get someone from hospice just to come in a talk to her. Then maybe she will change her mind. We are here for you... and hope you can find the strength to get through these difficult times. It is really nice that you made a web page for your mom, and you can write your feelings down. That is good therapy. Stay strong.... Maryanne
  7. Hi Barb, I love hearing that word.... STABLE... it is just a great sound word... I hope you hear it again and again. Take care Maryanne
  8. Hi All, Well this is week one of the radioactive iodine pill they gave Joel to kill the thyroid. And........ HE IS DOING GREAT!!! Like a 90 degree turn from last week. He is actually eating me out of the house Even his voice is much more in control and not that whimpy whisper anymore. His strength is coming back little by little. He even took out the trash today and was doing work on his computer. That is a first since the operation back in December. I guess I should have put this in the good news column. But I always post in here and I wanted all of you to know. I also want to thank every one who PM me with words of encouagement. Thanks all.... hopefully when he gains his weight (the rate he is going should be soon) and we can get on with the chemo. I don't want him to wait too long, or it won't work. take care all, will keep you posted. Maryanne
  9. Thanks all for your replies, seems like hands down, it is from radiation and not chemo. So glad to hear that That's one less thing off my mind. Thanks again for your quick responses. Maryanne.
  10. Hi All, I have a question about Chemo. I read in some people's posts that some people really seem to have trouble swollowing during or after treatments. What Iam trying to find out is, is this from Chemo or just from radiation. If it is from Chemo, I am concerned because Joel has a hard time swallowing as it is. It has gotten worse, which may or may not have been brought on by the Thyroid ( which is in the throat area) He always had a gagging reflux, but lately it has seem to have gotten worse. He probably will have chemo carbo/toxal with no radiation, when he is stronger. But I was curious about the swallowing situation. regards Maryanne

  23. Hi All, Have not wanted to post as so much has been going on with Beth and Addie. I have really been busy reading over all the posts and giving feeback when I could. Joel had that radioactive pill given to him Tuesday. It is now Saturday, and there has been quite an improvement. Not as much as he would like, but I see such a dfference from last weekend. His appitite is much improved and he is getting less fatigued. The Endocrinologist called to see how he was doing and said that it would take a good week for him to feel better, which would be this coming Tuesday. She also said that his T levels were very high. So at least we know the reason for the weight loss, nervousness, accelerated heart rate, insomnia and oh that horrible fatigue. He felt like his life force little by little was being drawn from him. But that is going to change. I can't wait for him to start to feel like himself again. He would have come through the surgery fine, if it wasn't for that horrible pain patch that made him so sick, and then being diagnoised with the hyperthyroidism during his recooperaton from the operation. But thank G-d it is not the cancer and hyperthyroidism is treatable, and hopefully this time next week he will be more like the wonderful man I know and love and will gain some of his control and independence back. Take care all, and I will keep you posted. Love ya guys, Maryanne
  24. Thanks Kim for sharing that, that was so emotional and what a wonderful son to have so much love for his grandmom. They must have really had a special relationship that he will treasure along with that shell, in his heart forever. Maryanne
  25. Better not turn your back, or I might steal him. He is beautiful.... is he a Choclate Lab? What is his name? Maryanne
