    Hi

Welcome Richard! My surgery was 2 years ago, and I am cancer free. I don't belive that it "always comes back". Just look at this board. You will see many people who were treated many years ago and are cancer free. Good luck with the surgery. You are in good hands at JH.
  4. Congratulations Bill! Keep having fun and I hope we hear from you before your three year anniversary!
  5. Prayers for Joanie and your whole family....

    Eric's Birthday

A very belated Happy Birthday to Eric! Your post brought tears to my eyes too. I know exactly how you feel. Every milestone means so much now.
  7. I just saw my doctor yesterday for my 6 month checkup. It has been 2 years since my surgery, so I am now on the once a year plan. I don't go back until next April. While I know this is good news, I am feeling a little apprehensive about waiting a year between CT scans. A lot can happen in a year. I told him this, and he assured me that I can come back whenever I want. Has anyone else experienced this fear? Tell me I am not alone......

    TWO YEARS

It was two years ago yesterday when I had half of my lung removed and the surgeon told me that he "got it all". I am finally starting to believe him. I saw him yesterday after having a CT scan last week, and he said that everything looks great. NED again! I don't know how I could have survived the past two years without all of you. Thank you all for your continued support.
  9. I don't know if it ever really "sinks in". I still think about it daily. And at test time, I still stress out. But the roller coaster ride will end and you will find your "new normal" and realize just how lucky you really are. You are CURED!
  10. Read David P's story under "MY STORY". It will show you what can be accomplished with only one lung. Very inspiring! I have been without 1/2 of my left lung for two years now and don't really notice any difference.
  11. Great news! Congratulations!
  12. So glad to hear this! Congratulations!

    Great News! Congratulations!
  17. Michelle, I'm sorry to hear how the appointment went, but everyone here is right. You are lucky that you caught it early and can have surgery. You will get through it fine. If you feel confident with your doctor, I wouldn't go for a second opinion. It would probably just delay things. If you are at JH, I'm sure you are in good hands. Call me if you want to talk.....

  19. Mickey, As one who had the VATS almost two years ago, I just wanted to add that although it is less invasive, they are still removing a lung, or part of a lung. I had 3 incisions, one about 3" under my breast, one about 2 inches on my back and a small incision on my side for the chest tube. I was prescribed percoset and really needed it the first week. OTC meds would never have worked for me. The recovery is definitely much easier than the "normal" lobectomy, but I didn't want you to think that you would be back to work the next day. I took 10 days off work, then worked at home for a month. I didn't know until I woke up after surgery that I had the VATS. The dr. said he would try, but didn't know until he got "in there" if the VATS would be doable. I was so happy when I woke up to know that he was able to do it using VATS.
  20. I am so sorry...my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
