  1. Prayers for your beautiful Mom, Dana. I hope she was able to start the Tarceva and it provides the miracle she so desperately needs. Let her know, so many people are praying for her!
  2. Like Debi, my jewelry (necklace) comes off as soon as I get home from work. I'm actually allergic to all metals and can't wear earrings or rings. My fifteen year old is too, she has a horrible rash where her jeans button. But she still wants her belly button pierced!
  3. Hi Joe, Boy, your brother has taken on quite a feat! I've been watching his blog and just find him so inspiring (and funny). I too, hope he has a safe return and hope he gets through those hills in Kentucky!
  4. Val, I have the greatest respect for you. You're so bright and have suffered so much. You have no clue if Shari and your Dad will last. Your Dad was on the rebound and remarried quickly. Take it a day at a time and I agree, let your kids decide what they want to call her. You create beautiful kids BTW. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone as adorable as Carolyn ( my own kid wasn't as cute!). Good luck with the birth of your new daughter. You have license to grieve your mother, the rest of everything seems insequential. Go with the flow. You're a beautiful person!
  5. Thanks for the update Teri. We think of you guys alot. My Dad just loves to sleep and feels somewhat good when he is awake. I hope this is the same for Bill. My prayers will continue, he can DO this!

Congratulations! We don't eat much...And we can BYOB!
  7. I'm sorry for all you're going through, it's tough. I haven't been anywhere in three years, forfeited vacation days because I haven't wanted to be far from my Dad. I don't know the complete health of your Dad but from your profile I see they aren't offering chemo. Is he too frail? There are lots of IIIb'ers that are able to maintain their disease with chemo. I would push for a second opinion also. The best example would probably be Ry's husband, Mr. Ry. Check out their profile, hopefully they will be around to offer encouragement. As for the "expiration date", let's hope your Mom isn't also reminding your Dad. Suggestion can be very powerful. My Stepmom, secretly asked the pulmonologist at diagnosis what my Dad's prognosis was. We were upset when days later, she revealed her big secret that he had 12-18 months. She thought she possessed some powerful knowledge that we weren't aware of. As you can see he surpassed his expiration date. Don't give up on your family. Keep fighting for your Dad. Serious illness can bring out the worst in the best of families. Good luck!
  8. My Dad has a met in his skull. It's not in his brain but attached to the interior cranial wall. He started daily targeted brain radiation Monday morning and today he learned he's two pints shy of a full blood count. He will be transfused Friday with two pints of blood. For those dealing with SCLC, did you ever experience a blood loss during radiation and were you given an explanation?

    Mom's MRI

Great MRI's can happen, this is good news! We're still waiting on the results of my Dad's. I hope we received the same news but in the meantime I'll be relishing your Mom's!

    My Dad

We love our Dad's so much. I'm so happy to hear he has responded to treatment and he continues to recover from it. When prayers go up, blessings come down!
  13. Just wanted to let you guys know, if you lose your sense of smell, your taste goes with it! My Dad was in a brawl during his younger years and lost his sense of smell/taste. Now we look at his loss as a Godsend; he tolerated chemo and that awful metallic taste that accompanies treatment very well.
  14. I'm so sorry for your great loss. Your hubby was much to young and his battle was way to short. I hope you are able to find some peace in the days to come.
  15. Amanda, Please accept my sincere condolences. I'm so very sorry.

  17. I own a teenager and last summer, my house was "tp"ed almost every weekend. Finally, I exploded and told my kid to get the word out; next person that saran wraps my car, eggs my doors or tp's my house would feel my wrath. That seemed to put an end to that! Fast forward to yesterday. The kid hears a knock on her window, panicked she get's me out of the shower to have me secure the fortress. I looked outside and what do I see? White streamers blowing in the wind. Phhhhffttt. I told her to tell whoever she thinks did it that I said they did a pis_ poor job. I've used more toilet paper wiping her butt. I woke up this morning to find my yard, trees and porch completely decorated with Charmin! If you're going to do a job, you might as well do it right.

Ernie, you continue to be an inspiration! Prayers your 3 month scan rules out cancer.
  20. 50% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category. Err, not sure what this means, but you guys won't hold it against me, will you?
  21. Oh Loretta, so many of us know how you feel. I'm single, so I don't have a husband battling this disease, I have my father fighting instead. He's on his third wife and my Dad and I are truly best friends and nobody notices the subtle changes as much as I do. I know him better than anyone. If you want to get in a fetal position and cry your eyes out then do it. Treatment can be hard on both the caregiver and the patient. I'm glad I can still get my Dad to laugh but there are times I think he's just not the same. I'll take it. I'll take him in any shape or form as I'm sure you will take your dear husband. Be easy on yourself, I hope tomorrow your day is illuminated with sunshine and hope. Never stop fighting the good fight.

So sorry for your incredible loss Heather.
  23. Sorry Ry, but I really don't agree with any legislation that infringes on private business. There are many restaurants in my area that are smoke free and I choose to frequent those. I think the marketplace should determine best business practices not the government.
  24. Yeah, what Ry said. Not only is Val wise beyond her years, she makes really cute babies that we can watch grow .
  25. So sorry for you loss Marco Jo.
