  1. Praying that there are no mets and that your Mom comes around very soon. She's a cut up, huh???!!! Good for her! Joanie ((()))
  2. Hi Gail, Your post really struck a nerve with me. My Dad was also a very proud person who always had his act together. He had survived taking care of my mother, who was totally disabled due to a massive stroke, then she passed, and he survived being a widower for another 20 years. He developed congestive heart failure which came along with senility in a very bad form. Eventually, after having a calm talk with him, we told him he needed all his strength to fight the heart disease, and we would handle his day to day necessities. Maybe he would be better off with you in your home, if you feel you can do that. A Social Worker would definitely be helpful at this point. Maybe you can talk to him/her separately, ahead of time to get some solid answers before you approach him with these "new ideas." I feel for you Gail, this is very hard, but please remember you are doing what is right for him, and you are a great daughter to put his welfare first. Please keep us posted. I'll be praying for your family. Joanie ((()))

  5. Hi, I've wondered about research and lack of advancement in the treatement of SCLC. Maybe, for one reason, only 20% of lc is of the SCLC type, so more research goes into finding a cure for the 80%. Please go to the ASCO website to find pertinent information regarding SCLC research. It's interesting. there are articles that address this issue. Joanie
  6. I'm truly sorry to read this about Keith. I'll pray for you and your family for strength and peace. Joanie ((()))
  7. Your Dad's 4/28 note on his history says it all - NED. I know it's hard to not think about recurrence, but please try not to. He's not there, he's NED, right? Everyone in our position thinks it will come back - but you know what, sometimes it doesn't come back. Your Dad can be in that group (along with me, and I'm 4 years and going strong.) Joanie
  8. What WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!! I'm so happy for you Now go catch BUBA and fry him up to celebrate! Joanie XXOO

  10. You're doing a great job! Every mother knows deep inside what's best for her child. Follow your instincts - they're always right. It must be so hard to decide all these things on your own - we're here and listening! Give Faith a hug ((( ))) Joanie

  14. I had so many dreams when I was sick last December, I can't begin to write about them. Really, it could fill a book. Just for a laugh, the last one I had (I guess it was the last) involved being in the South and hanging around some country western singer family (don't know who, maybe Loretta Lynn's family) and somehow they were all poor. They were given turkeys for thanksgiving, but they all left them on their front steps. I became very worried about food poisoning, so I decided to go to each house and show them how to make Thanksgiving dinner, clean the turkey and make the stuffing, spuds, veggies, pies. It kept me very busy Shortly after that, my doctor came to see me (for real, not a dream) and asked me how I was. I started to tell him about how I was ok, but we had a serious problem with turkeys!!!!!!! He smiled and just kept writing and writing and writing. The mind is a terrible thing to waste!!!!! Joanie

  20. Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. There are many people here who have been on these drugs, however, with good results. You can be one of them also. Praying for good response for you. Joanie ((()))
  21. I use a cough syrup called Hycodan which has codine and is very effective in stopping coughing. I hope your scans come out well. Also, maybe Ensure or Boost would be a good idea to help you get stronger.I also lost about 60 lbs. four years ago. Gradually it came back but I know the feeling of weakness can be just awful. Praying for you. Joanie ((()))
  22. That's a great poem. I do try my best to follow that path. Joanie ((()))
  23. Really a happy guy, that Matt. He made me TIRED! Joanie ((()))
  24. Well, I know where you're coming from. But it just doesn't make sense to spend alot of time worrying about the future. Yes, we will all die sooner or later of something or other. But I've thought this over and I think that spending your time on this doesen't help you. Yeah, life sure is tough, but as you go thru it, you learn alot and that helps you get thru. Please be kind to yourself. Joanie
  25. It seems that neuropathy is a "come again, go again" thing at least as far as I go. I asked my doctor and he was very "uh" about it. It seems it can stay and get worse/better, it can go away, it can stay forever. I guess it depends on the person and the type of chemo. I had Cisplatin. I've read that all of the "platin" drugs cause this problem. Recently I've started taking fish oil and Glucosimin/Congroitin pills and they seem to be helping with the arthritic problems of neuratpothy. Maybe they would help you, too? Hope you get some good ideas about this problem. I'll keep reading, because it sure can be an annoying problem!!!! Joanie
