  8. If you were a newly diagnosed patient and your oncologist gave you a lung cancer survivor kit, what would you like to have in it? We are preapring another fundraiser in November, Playing for a Cure Bowlathon, with Lungevity(Thanks Katie). One of the things that we are doing is putting together a Surivors Kit for newly diagnosed patients that we will distribute to local physicians to give to patients. What should be included in it? Give me some feedback please!!! Te bowlathon is scheduled for November 8th and 9th in Memphis. Mark your calendar and come join us on Saturday!! God Bless! Jamie
  9. Here's my speech!! I am trying to get the local media involved. This is a great opportunity for all of us with Stand Up for Cancer happening on Friday. Give me some feedback..This needs to be an attention grabber..All comments and help are welcome!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Morning My name is Jamie Young and I am a wife, mother, teacher, local musician and 3 ½ year advanced lung cancer survivor. Can you imagine the devastation my family and I felt when I was diagnosed with the nations #1 cancer killer at the young age of 35? Did you know that lung cancer kills over 160,000 people each year and more than breast, cervical and ovarian cancer combined? Or that Shelby county plays host to more lung cancer deaths that any other county in the state with an estimated 493 people in our county dying from this disease? Or that Tennessee ranks #4 in the nation with an estimated 4490 people dying from lung cancer this year alone? The question now is “What can we do”? To start, this week on September 5th at 7 p.m. central standard time on ABC, CBS and NBC, a nationally televised program called Stand Up For Cancer will be aired and will help raise awareness about this disease and many others as well as raise money for cancer research. This is an awesome opportunity and I would love to share my story with you and help continue to educate the community about this disease. The stigma attached to this disease should not overshadow the need for compassion for people dealing with lung cancer in our community or across the nation. Please help me with my mission and let me share my story with you and the community! Thank you so much for your time and consideration and I look forward to speaking with you! Sincerely, Jamie Young playingforacure@comcast.net phone number Below are links that I thought you might find useful: Stand Up for Cancer http://www.standup2cancer.org/ Understanding Cancer. 14. Bicycle injury "The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express Praise for answered prayers. A lady stood and walked to the podium. She said, "I have a Praise. Two months ago, my husband, Tom, had a terrible bicycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him. You could hear an audible gasp from the men in the Congregation as they imagined the pain that poor Tom must have experienced. She continued, "Tom was unable to hold me or the children and every move caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation. They were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom' s scrotum and wrap wire around it to hold it in place." Again, the men in the Congregation were unnerved and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Tom. She continued, "Now, thank the Lord, Tom is out of the hospital and the doctor's say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely." All the men sighed with relief. The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had anything to say. A man rose and walked slowly to the podium. He said, "I'm Tom, and I want to tell my wife the word is sternum."

  17. On the subject of Colonoscopies. Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous. A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies: 1. "Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before! 2. "Find Amelia Earhart yet?" 3. "Can you hear me NOW?" 4. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" 5. "You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married." 6. "Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?" 7. "You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out..." 8. "Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!" 9. "If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit! 10. "Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity." 11. "You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?" 12. "God, now I know why I am not gay." And the best one of all. 13. "Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?"
