  3. Barb, I would call the doctor to be on the safe side. However, I too have had a bad sore throat for weeks it seems, that comes and goes. I get neurotic about it, but there are alot of people at work that have the same thing. My doctor gave me antibiodics but it hasn't helped much.. I have had tingling and numbness in my hands and feet, and "hot" areas, since my surgery. Since no one can figure out what it is, I'm assuming its from my nerves being cut, or from the epidural that I had in my spine. It used to drive me crazy, but now its just like background noise..most of the time I don't notice it. I'm not sure if you have had a bone scan or anything, perhaps your doctor can order some tests if you haven't had them to set your mind at ease.... Hope your week is better...

    Ouch!!

David, I haven't posted much recently but have been following the Chapman posts and silently cheering you on over here in Oklahoma... I'm so sorry for the pain you are having. Keep taking all the drugs you need David to get through this setback, who would have thought we could get high legally when we grew up ? My thoughts are with you and yours....
  6. Bill, When I was first told I might have lung cancer, I too was terrified, I thought that if I had cancer, it would be a death sentence. That is not necessarily the case as the others have said. So just remember, no matter how scared you get, that this is doable, there are people living with lung cancer. Try to stay focused on the fact that you are going forward now and just keep one foot in front of the other. I also am a recovering alcoholic, I just made 22 years this December. Although I have not been to a meeting in years, believe you me, I wore those AA slogans OUT during my initial bout and still do every time I go for a test. There have been quite a few other people in recovery on here, and I think we all just shifted our "tools" over to this disease from the other.... The terror, the waiting, the paranoia all are part of lung cancer, you are far from being alone. Know that this is normal and something that we all know well and have had at different times. Just remember that if it IS lung cancer that you have, it IS survivable. YOU are a survivor already, this is just another hurdle if that's what this is... Wishing you best thoughts and keep us posted....
  7. This was always my favorite riddle although I had heard it as 3 sailors and a ... well, never mind.... Anyway, hopefully it will drive the men a bit crazy trying to figure it out...
  8. Barb, So good to see you posting, even though I wish that you didn't have to be here at all of course! Do NOT beat yourself up for worrying the way that you are. For the first 4 months or so, I couldn't even sleep through the night because of my fear. To this DAY, when I get an ache or a pain, I am convinced that the cancer is back. Say goodbye to sore throats, headaches, joint pain and stomachaches. Everything you have will be a "met" until proved otherwise, it is the way the psychological part of this disease works. As ginny said, this is good because we are always vigiliant. We just have to somehow find that line between vigilance and being neurotic...I keep stepping over it into the neurotic side still... Some people get anxiety medication to help them through this time and I highly recommend asking your doctor for something to take the edge off if you feel that it is necessary. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. In the meantime, please get that throat looked at, it is probably a run of the mill sore throat, but even so, you probably want to get some antibiodics. I don't even mess around with colds these days, I sneeze and I am at the doctor. This would be the neurotic part kicking in As far as chemo is involved, all I have to offer is to go with the opinion of those you trust, which is the advice people on this board gave me when I was new out of surgery. I ended up choosing not to have adjuvent chemo and with all my neurotic moments, I have never regretted not having it. I went with the doctors who I trusted, researched, made what I felt was an informed decision and didn't look back. I respect the choice of others, but know that this was the right choice for me. Things will get easier Barb. This whole thing is such a shock to our systems, to our lives, to everything that we knew to be. You are living in an upside down world but that world will slowly start to right itself with time. It does get better and one day you will even feel lucky, just hang in there...
  9. Bo, Instead of right clicking, you can highlight what you want to copy. Then go up to "Edit" in your browser tool bar on top and click "Copy". This will do the same as right clicking in case this feature remains inaccessible.
  10. Rick, I don't adjust well either so last night when I first saw it, I hated it. Knowing myself, i didn't vote, and when I signed on this morning I really do like it. I too have margins on both sides and am unsure if I am supposed to? I guess I have about 1 1/2" or 2" of white space on each side. You can put me with the aging, bad eyesight people because it is a bit of a strain to read. The website is smaller print because of this. I thought that was how it was supposed to be but now, after reading the other posts, I'm not sure? Oh, and by the way, thanks Rick. I know everything you do here is a labor of love and it shows....
  11. Okay, this may be the night I get censured for the first time but I couldn't resist putting up this link for 2 of my favorite jokesters, Frank & John, I so thought of them when I saw this. Anyone else click at your own risk, this could probably be offensive to many (there is some nudity) but since its just a link and I'm not forcing anyone to go there, I thought no harm done. (I hope!!!) I don't mean to offend anyone, but just thought this was too funny to pass by. Okay, I did my disclaimer!! http://www.starterupsteve.com/swf/Thetest-uk.html?

Rob, Glad you posted and welcome to the board no one really wants to be a member of! I think you will find all kinds of information here to help you; and I think that I can speak for most of us who had surgery by saying that we are doing real good afterwards. There is a healing curve, of course, and some things may not be quite the same as before, but it is definitely doable!! I'm sure Don and others will follow me with their answers... Please come back and let us know the results of your dad's biopsy. I am glad you found us..
  14. Ginny, It is just gorgeous... I wish you much happiness there. You need to ask them if you can build a chicken coop on the premises, I am getting the housewarming chicken assortment ready for shipment..

  16. Cindi, I've always wondered that myself and have read about the results of stress on your immune system, and subsequently, your body. The March before I was diagnosed, I found out that the Site Manager was messing around with one of my peers. This would have been iffy at best, but there was other unethical behavior going on around their affair. To make a very long story short, I ended up reporting the entire thing, after a very stressful 10 days of soul searching, to the Corporate office. That stressful 10 days was nothing compared to the hell that I went through working in a hostile environment and my subsequent months trying to find my footing in a company that until then had had my complete loyalty. I reported what I knew out of my desire to protect my workplace and because of a large sense of responsibility that I had because I knew what was going on and as a result, felt as culpable as the parties involved. My company chose to take the word of my boss, who was fairly new, in the interest of protecting their own agendas. Whew.. sorry for the rant but my bitterness at being left high and dry by what I thought would be my saviors, still remains apparently. I had months and months of stress. In June of that year my doctor prescribed me anti-anxiety medication but I only took it a month because it made me forget things. End result was I ended up working through it all since I had to report to the same boss, who PS, two years later was fired for messing around with one of the employees on the floor. . Big surprise there. Anyway, I don't think I have EVER had the stress that I had that March and subsequent months, I can't even define it, and still had to perform my job. The following January is when the nodule was found on my xray, at 11 mm....

Don.. Hold the press, don't panic!! Yeah, easy to say to someone else, right? There have been so many times on this board where something showed up and next time it was proved to not be there..its happened several times just lately. Will keep everything crossed for ya anyway but I'm sure it will be alright..

Cindi, It's at times like these, that I worry about you the most. Go easy on the chicken, okay?

    Chicken Play

This is an old but wierd one, I recyled it from last year.... http://www.subservientchicken.com/ Anyone that ever wanted their own chicken to boss around, this is it!!! Just type in what you want him to do and voila....Okay, I think I need to go to sleep now...
  20. David, I never thought I would agree with anything Frank Lamb said , but you are such an inspiration to all of us. You just keep kicking a** and taking names even though I'm sure it must get pretty frustrating, to say the least, at times. Here's hoping these new "spots" are nothing to be concerned about. I also wish that somehow you find some worry free days between now and the 17th. Thoughts will be with you ...
  21. Here's a new geography puzzle. I'm doing better, on this one I got 82% with an error of 43 miles in 289 seconds. Okay, that was my 2nd try, but the first time was 78%. Either way, I'm up from the kindergarten level on the last puzzle. http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=7024
  22. Okay, I never had chemo or radiation. But, immediately after my surgery, all of a sudden I seem to have plunged into perimenopause. I had all kinds of tests and they come up with the fact that I'm in early menopause. My doctor said that sometimes major surgery can bring it on, or cancer. Don't know how accurate that is. I have the thermostat key for my side of the building at work so everyone has learned to live with my hot/cold spells. For over a year, my periods seem to be 3 months on, 3 months off and as soon as I'm comfortable with NOT having one, I start. I can't imagine going over a year and then getting it back!!!! I am now on like my 5th month straight, so maybe I am back to "normal" now? One extremely wierd note: my dumb a** housecat that I can't stand was in heat all the time and with everything going on with me, I never had the chance to take her to be spayed. As soon as I stopped, SHE stopped. SO the 3 months that I don't have a period, my cat won't go into heat. THen when I get it, my cat goes into heat. This is like clockwork. It is the friggin wierdest thing... I have only told a few people because its so wierd.....I have heard about roomates following the same pattern but a CAT???
  23. Gina, Thank you for posting, I also wondered from time to time about Janet W. and how she was doing.
  24. TAnn, So glad to hear of your news and sending wishes, along with everybody, that you will have little or no side effects.
  25. Cheryl, So glad to see that you have a plan in place that is doable. Also glad to read the hope starting to shine through in your post. I knew you would rally round to kick butt, you are such a strong woman!! Best wishes with you, as always.
