  1. I've been afraid of this news for a few weeks. But Carole lived her life on her own terms and not on the cancer's terms. In the end the ultimate victory was her's and I think that deserves more celebration than sadness. So Carole, in your honor, I'm inviting the members of the LCSC to do the Quality of Life dance for you! Susan

    NED!!

Lilly, That's GREAT news!!!!!! I'm so happy for you that I may just do a happy dance. Anyone want to join me in celebrating Lilly's good news? Susan
  3. I am so sorry you are going through this at what should be the happiest time of your life. It is unfair and cruel, but you are honoring your mom's wishes and I hope that will give you some comfort today. I think your mom wants you to enjoy your day and to focus on the joy the day brings and not the sorrow. I know that is easier said than done, but it's ok to feel the joy AND the sadness side by side. Susan
  4. Linda, My cat likes to knock the shampoo bottle off the tub when I'm taking a shower. I've always suspected that it is a plot to do me in by making me slip and fall in the tub. Cats are like that--especially when they think we have forgotten to worship them. I hope you find a solution that does not involve getting rid of your cats. Their purring is a world of good medicine on its own (except when they are trying to do you in, of course) and I suspect would be greatly missed. I agree that you might want to call the vet and find out what substance would make the tubing unpalatable to your kitties. Perhaps brocolli. Susan
  5. I will be saying prayers for your Pop-pop! He will feel better when the fluid goes down. Susan

  7. Oh Kerri--I'm so sorry to read this news. I love that beautiful photo of you and your mom on your wedding day. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad. Susan
  8. John--yes this stupid disease is unfair and evil. I remember that my mom told me after her Dx "this is not a tragedy. If I were young it would be a tragedy, at my age, it's just a part of life." What you saw was a tragedy, but keep in mind that they've made tremendous progress with children's cancers and many are highle curable. I pray the little girl you saw was in that category. Susan
  9. Pneumonia we can treat! Great News (yes, as wierd as that is). Now just get RID of it! Susan
  10. It sounds like the hosptial is the place that Pop-pop needs to be. I'll add my prayers that the drs get his fever under control and get him back on the Tarceva ASAP! Susan
  11. Randy--ask and you shall receive! Susan
  12. Woo HOO!!!!! Great news--congratulations and THANKS for sharing it with us! Susan
  13. Linda, you would do the same for him if the situation were reversed. Still, I'd let the hospital know that your needs were ignored. Our hospital has a patient rep. We ran into her in an elevetor one time when my father was in the hospital and wasn't being cared for properly. She asked us how things were going and we told her (we didn't know who she was, just thought she was making conversation). Her face got real tight and she said "that will be taken care of" and she got off on the elevator and read the nurses the riot act. He was well cared for from then on. Find the patient rep. I hope things are going, um, more smoothly now. Susan
  14. Today is Mom's 79th birthday! This is the third birthday we've celebrated since her Dx. Way to Go Mom! Susan ps--She is getting a Wii Fit for her birthday. Her idea because staying active will help her to fight the cancer better.
  15. In today's NY Times. It makes a case for speeding up biopsy results. We've all been there! http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/25/healt ... .html?_r=1 Susan

Nick, Keep your eyes on Sophie. I bet you'll see your mom's smile and I pray that will being a smile to your face. She is still with you. Not in the way you want her to be, but she had left so much of herself with you and with Sophie that she will be with you always. ((((Nick)))) Susan
  19. Denise, I'm so sorry to hear about your father-in-law. I know he is at peace and free from pain and I pray that brings you comfort. Susan
  20. Greg, I think we can have a conversation about this without being defensive. Susan
  21. ((((Linda)))) Tell your hospice workers about your fears. They are there to make you comfortable and to relieve your fears. In the meantime know that you are being surrounded by love, warmth and prayers from your LCSC family. ((((LInda)))) Susan
  22. Glad you are home Denise. Stress can do this to you, but you always need to be sure. Now take it easy and tell your family members to behave themselves so you can recover! Susan
  23. This is an interesting article that can add to the discussion about the Comparative Effectiveness Research. http://newoldage.blogs.nytimes.com/2009 ... ing-it-on/ While not mentioned in this article, it is my understanding that it would function much like NICE in the UK. Susan
  24. Jeannie, I am so sorry. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Susan
