I was just teasing about Googling!! I had to Google to find a Warvey Hallbanger too!
  3. Sorry to go back to the Partridge song, but my daughter emailed me the meaning of how it came to be, so I thought I would share. (Now we know!) From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember. -The Partridge in a Pear tree was Jesus Christ. -Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments. -Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love. -The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. -The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament. -The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation. -Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy. -The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes. -Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. -The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments. -The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples. -The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed. So there is your history for today.

  9. Grateful for my husband. Today is our 19th "first date" anniversary. We went on a blind date to a Church Christmas play about Scrooge. Good memories!

  12. I just did a 2 page report for my nursing class on the subject of lung cancer. I came here and asked for help, and ended up getting a 103.5 % as a test score, because I had EXTRA information.(Thanks everyone). If you want to throw statistics at people who ask that stupid question, (it makes my ears burn too, when I'm asked that about my husband), you can tell them that 15,000-25,000 people per year, get Dx'd with lung cancer, who have NEVER smoked, or even been around second hand smoke or chemicals. It's not safe for people to think they're not going to get it because they've never smoked. That's why we need to educate them. Even though they have "foot in mouth" disease, we wouldn't wish lung cancer on anyone, so I think it's our duty to inform them, especially if they ask that question. I'll be keeping your dad and your family in my prayers. Nova
  13. Oh wait! it has something to do with "will find it hard to sleep tonight"...... (I'm heading back over to the alcoholic word game now... )

  18. I'm pretty sure this was my first post. I remember being terrified and still in shock at Harry's diagnosis, even though it had been a couple of months. I also remember feeling such a relief to have found this place. I felt I had stumbled across a whole "room full" of people that understood what we were going thru. (I still feel that way!) "My name is Nova, and we live in Florida. My husband was Dx'd with SCLC in January.(limited, but not only "inside" his left lung, it's pressing into his ribs on the outside, and is wrapped around the bottom of his heart also... has some nearby lymph nodes affected too). He's just finished up his third round of chemo today, and has three more to go. (We made it thru the "halfway" mark!) He started radiation a few days ago. (Twice a day, 5 days a week, for 3 weeks). The first post I read here, was from a fellow named Don.. it gave me great hope, to say the least! Wow! What a fantastic outlook! The second post I read, was from "Loretta", stating that although her husband was still with her, she missed him. It made me cry.... I truly thought I was the only one feeling that way... I've watched my hubby lose 30+ pounds, watched his beautiful, head full of blonde hair fall out in clumps, and watched his normally sparkly, huge blue eyes, get so lifeless and dull, that I almost can't recognize him anymore. I've listened to him snap at me in angry tones, over things I have no control over, and Yeah, I too, want my old life back! All I can say, is thank you for being here, and thank the Lord I found this place! Please know that I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers, and please do the same for my husband. It's nice to "meet" you all, Nova" _________________
  19. They're BEAUTIFUL! I have 3 "available" grandson's, ages 20 months, 5 and almost 7.... maybe we can arrange something..... Thanks for sharing the pictures. Kids/babies always cheer me up!
  20. It's scary, and I think just about everyone here, (Caregivers too), gets the "heebie-jeebies" when anything out of the ordinary happens. My very unprofessional guess, would be anxiety attacks. It sounds too much like what I went thru myself, when my husband first got diganosed. Best to go talk to the doctor and find out. It's much better then waiting for it to get worse, regardless of what it is. The nice thing is, that if you find out it's anxiety, it can be fixed so easily, and you'll feel so much better. Let us know. Nova
  21. I'm SO thankful that I made it thru school, and am now finished with it. The week of clinicals at the nursing home, almost "did me in". (I'm not at all fond of nursing homes). Now I just have to make an appt. to take the State test, pass it, and I'll be set to go back to work.

Harvey Wallbanger...... (?????? is that a drink??? Is it spelled right? Can you tell I don't drink alcohol??)
  23. Patti, I saw that my son, Jacob, has written on Nick's Blog. It's nice of Nick to offer to share his experiences with others his age. I also noticed, that regardless of the fact that Jacob has been in a private school since kindergarten, that he left out all comma's, periods, question marks, capitol letters, etc!!!! That expensive tuition I've been paying all of these years, is money down the toilet, apparently!!!! I couldn't help but laugh when I saw what he had written! He jumped right into a conversation about football! BOYS!
  24. I HAVE to laugh ~ to survive, and it's very healthy to do so, from what I've read! (Not at inappropriate times, of course) . My husband is kind of a "Stuffy old Yankee" type of guy, but even HE makes jokes about the mess we're in, thanks to lung cancer. When I asked him what he wanted for Christmas this year, he said a "one-toothed comb", to be able to keep his one hair looking tidy. (This is from a man that had the thickest head of hair I've ever seen, before Chemo). I think you and your Mom are wonderful. God Bless you both!
