  1. Actually there is some "misinformation" out there about vitamin C. It is based on some research done at Sloan Kettering. The research outcome was actually correct... but they made ASSUPMTIONS about how C would affect the cancer cell once absorbed without actually testing the theory. Heres how it went..... Vitamin C is chemically very similiar to glucose (or "sugar")... since cancer feeds on sugar, they theorized that cancer cells would gobble up vitamin C at an extrordinary rate. Guess what ? It was true, the cancer cells gourged on vitamin C like crazy. They then went on to state that "c" shouldnt be taken in light of this....The flaw in the article was that they asssumed that cancer cells would use C like "glucose" and it would result in tumor growth. Actually the opposite was found to be true. Although the cancer cell "thinks" its getting its favorite food source (SUGAR) -- Vitamin C actually destroys the cancer cell once it is consumed by it. The cancer cell is "fooled" into thinking that it is getting it favorite fuel, when indeed "C" acts as a pro-Oxidant against cancer cells. Many physicians are having very good results administering high doses of Vitamin C in cancer patients.
  2. Actually, This is a very hotly debated topic that you will have to make your own decision about. I just encourage you to do the research on your own, and to not trust doctors. The majority of studies actually indicate that antioxidants provide a "bullet proof vest" to healthy cells during chemo without affecting the effectiveness of toxic therapies on malignant cells. A great book on the subject is Patrick Quillans "beating cancer with nutrition". This is an area that NEEDS to be resolved... and the medical community is not taking the lead in seeing the VITAL importance of a HOLISTIC approach to cancer treatment. Shame on them, they only see radiation, chemo & surgery as options.... they are largely controlled by the drug companies. My take is that most medical doctors have virtually NO understanding of proper nutition and diet. I have yet to meet one that can give good advice on the subject. Typically what you get when you ask about diet is "yes, you should eat" Boosting the immune system during treatment - to me makes sense. We were made to engage in excercise, proper nutrition, and proper supplementation (where diet is lacking - due to modern effects on what we now grow)-- The immune system can actually fight cancer (the average person gets cancer 6 times in their lifetime- and yet only 30% of people are diagnosed with cancer) if maintained properly.

    God's Grace

God's Grace by Max Lucado You may be decent. You may pay taxes and kiss your kids and sleep with a clean conscience. But apart from Christ you aren't holy. So how can you go to heaven? Only believe. Accept the work already done, the work of Jesus on the cross. Accept the goodness of Jesus Christ. Abandon your own works and accept His. Abandon your own decency and accept His. Stand before God in his name and not yours. Its that easy? there was nothing easy about it at all. The cross was heavy, the blood was real, and the price was extravagant. It would have bankrupted you or me, so He paid it for us. Call it simple. Call it a gift. But don't call it easy. Call it what it is. Call it grace.
  4. Congratulations Heather! Married life is good!! You should post on the good news board. About the excercise. Lance armstrong states that excercise is suffering and involves some pain... but tha teveryone should suffer a little each day, because of the miraculous results and health we acheive.... Treadmills are BORING- thats why you have an issue with it I wouldd much rather run outside- but at zero degrees we have to protect our lungs. Whats helps me is to warm up by starting slow... and ease into a run and just try to set goals, realizing some days will be better than others... and not stressing out if you dont hit your goal fo r that day... Intensity should build with time, but consistency is the key... I just force myself to get started, then I go into a positive imagery thing while I walk/ run. I just try to get my blood flowing, heart rate up, and lungs working deeply (and make sure I sweat a little to detox my system) I also have a eliptical (thats easier on the joints) and some people like tae bo tapes, pilates, or just good old fasioned situps and pushups.... you are on the right track, Heather... keep on keeping on ! Joe
  5. Mark, Great news ! I wonder if you have a BAC form of Andeno? The re-occurence back in the lung (instaed of elsewhere), the multiple small nodules, and the effectiveness of Iressa all seem to point to this ... It took me 3 path reports to find out I have a BAC form of the disease. Very encouraging... thanks! Also, I am a big fan of excercise in the management of this disease (even deep breathing I have heard is good, for those that can't power walk, bike, or run). Its good to hear you say , that that has played a hand in the turn around. do u also watch your diet? Praying for continued healing for you. Joe
  6. Heather, she's just not getting it - is she? lol I am with u 100% - DOWN with SUGAR !
  7. Sounds like you are well informed. Good that there is no mets. I would focus on nutrition and, excercise (if possible that is; oxygenation is important, even if its just deep breathing). PET Scan is always a good idea, but I have been told that radiation can cause a false positive up to a year or two after treatments. Sloan Kettering is suppose to be one of the top 2 cancer centers in the country (MD & them go back and forth between 1 & 2 ) Keep researching... and by all means do not rule out complimentary treatments ("beating cancer with nutrition" by Patrick Quillan (sp?) is an excellent book)

    newcomer!

Welcome! Sorry I can't help you with radio frequency ablation... but I am glad you are here... and I am sure someone here will help you with answers. Joe
  13. Peg, I think they are referring to a personalized Moss report that is constructed for you based on your clinical data (path, stage, age, history...etc) I have heard they are about $200. I have a very good friend who's Dad (age 70) has just been diagnosed with SCLC and has mets to the bone. He has decided to go with a natural approach combined with "Cantrol/ Cancell" (similar to the alternative supplement you are referring to) .. I respect his decision. Its a very personal thing, aand I belive there are no "wrong " decisions.... Its based on your own sitaution and beliefs. I do believe that conventional treatments can sometimes do more harm than good! They are not for everyone, and the success rate versus a natural approach can be hotly debated. A "restrained" approach to chemo & radiation COMBINED with a great diet and other complimentary therapies is often the most effective way to go. Joe

    Update

Fracine, I just had my second dose of Taxotere today...... On my first round my wbc's dropped to .6. I am now starting Neupogen right away with this dose, and hopefully that takes care of that issue. I did both Cisplatin and Etoposide just prio to the taxotere while going thru radiation... its a doosy. I will be praying for you, just insist on keeping a very close eye on your blood counts. Joe

    Courage

Courage by Max Lucado from "the Applause of Heaven" Could you use some courage? Are you backing down more than you are standing up? Jesus scattered the butterflies out of the stomachs of His nervous disciples.... We need to remember the disciples were common men given a compelling task. Before they were the stained- glassed saints in the windows of cathedrals, they were somebody's next-door-neighbors trying to make a living and raise a family. They weren't cut from theological cloth or raised on supernatural milk. But they were an ounce more devoted than they were afraid and, as a result, did some extraordinary things. Earthly fears are no fears at all. Answer the big question of eternity, and the little questions of life fall into perspective. Max Read Isahiah 43:1-3, Isahiah 41:10,13 and Psalm 31:19-20 http://www.bible.com

Take solace in Gods enduring and infinite mercy and love..... remember that death isn't an end point - but rather the start of something everlasting and greater than we can possibly imagine.... Joe

    Faith

Faith from-- "He still moves stones" by Max Lucado Faith is the belief that God is real and that God is good....It is a choice to believe that the one who made it all hasn't left it all and that He still sends light into the shadows and responds to gestures of faith.... Faith is the belief that God will do what is right. God says that the more hopeless your circumstances, the more likely your salvation. The greater your cares, the more geniune your prayers. The darker the room, the greater the need for light. God's help is near and always available, but it is only given to those who seek it.
