  8. Hi, I went to M D Anderson for a second opionion.I took all scans and biopsy reports with me.They looked at everything and agreed with my doctor and didn't see the need for further tests. So I was only there for one night and got no treatments.I was impressed with check-in procedures and hospitality and promptness of services. It may not be the case for everybody but my appointment started on time.No waiting.I was impressed with the place.Praying for us all.TBone
  9. Five surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on. The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered." The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded." The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order." The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers, those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would." But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed "You're all wrong, politicians are the easiest to operate on." "There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the butt are interchangeable."

  13. I am sorry you are having a bad day.It gets old to wake up feeling good one day and like you have the flu the next.I have strung together a few good ones for the first time in a while and it sure is nice.Don't quit taking advantage of the good days though.Praying for us all.TBone
  14. Welcome to the board.I am sorry you had to find us.I am praying that your scan will be negative. You will be on pins and needles waiting for the scan and then again waiting for results. That is normal. All of us hate waiting on results. It is normal to be afraid and have all kinds of new emotions with this news.People on this board are great for support and info.Don't go out on the web looking for stats as I did. That is a big mistake.Every case is different and there is hope.Praying for us all.TBone

  17. Hi, Welcome to the board.I was diagnosed on Christmas Eve of last year with NSCLC with mets to several places including the brain. As a matter of fact all my symptoms were related to the brain mets so they were a priority.I had 3 of which one was pretty big.I had whole brain radiation to start with along with decadron and it was a rough experience but kept me alive. The tumors shrunk and I hope they are at bay now.I haven't had any more of those type symptoms anyway. After that they did radiation on my chest because I was quickly loosing my voice due to pressure from a tumor. That worked well too.I have just started chemo.I think your treatment will hinge on the size of the brain mets.Just make sure to get second opinions. The first doctor I saw was a neurosurgeon and he told me there was absolutely nothing that could be done.Luckily I went to a good radiation oncologist. There are several options.Just ask questions and seek other opinions.I am sure others on here will be responding to you as well.Praying for us all.TBone
  18. HI, I am sorry that you are in all this pain.I take oxycontin too and you need to be very careful. You CANNOT half them. They are time released and halfing them will give you too big a dose at once. You cannot chew them either.Talk to your doctor about increasing the dosage. You can go all the way up to 80mg three times a day. They make them in 20mg,40mg and 80 mg.They work very well for me as long as I take them on schedule.Ask him about a different dosage. The thing that I found about fighting pain is that you need to stay ahead of it.It is easier to keep it down that it is to get rid of it once it starts.Praying for you to get to feeling better soon.Pain sucks every bit of fight out of you if you let it.TBone It is very important not to cut oxycontin in half or to chew them.It is widely abused in this way for an instant high and becoming a real problem in emergency rooms. Also I just heard that there is a generic oxycontin now that is cheaper but I am not sure about it.Might be worth checking into.

    Just an update

Hey.You guys cheat.Walking is outside.Down the dirt road with the blackberries and plums. After my first mile I may opt for the treadmill though. TBone
  20. Hi everybody, I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would give an update.I had my third taxotere treatment this morninig. The first two took what little appetite I had and made me extremely exhausted. The doctor told me this morning that I need to start walking at least a mile a day.Preferably two.It is so hot here so I will be doing that early in the morning. He says that is one of the best ways to fight fatique so I will be doing it.He also gave me next week off from treatment. It has been a long, long time since I have gone a week without either radiation or chemo.I think the break will help and now my kids are out of school and will be here to keep me awake.Praying for us all.TBone PS. Oh yeah. The best news is that I seldom have pain now and when I do it is not severe. That makes me want to walk.
  21. Never Tick Off A Nurse A big shot attorney had to spend a couple of days in the hospital. He was a royal pain to the nurses because he bossed them around just like he did his staff. None of the hospital staff wanted to have anything to do with him. The head nurse was the only one who could stand up to him. She came into his room and announced, "I have to take your temperature." After complaining for several minutes, he finally settled down, crossed his arms and opened his mouth. "No, I'm sorry, the nurse stated, 'but for this reading, I can't use an oral thermometer.. This started another round of complaining, but eventually he rolled over and bared his behind. After feeling the nurse insert the thermometer, he heard her announce, "I have to get something. Now you stay JUST LIKE THAT until I get back!" She leaves the door to his room open on her way out. He curses under his breath as he hears people walking past his door, laughing. After a half hour, the man's doctor comes into the room. "What's going on here?" asked the doctor. Angrily, the man answers, "What's the matter, Doc? Haven't you ever seen someone having their temperature taken?" After a pause, the doctor confesses, "Not with a carnation
  22. Thanks for the update.I am glad that your brother has had a change in attitude.I hope he is able to keep it that way. That is hard to do but with your help and that of the rest of the family I think he will.I really don't like it when a doctor tells me 3 or 6 or 9 months but in Alan's case it seems that it really may have made him to come around as far as how serious this is.I guess sometimes that is needed.I just hope he doesn't spend too much time thinking of that.Counting days is not the thing to do.Be determined to beat them if nothing else.Praying for us all.TBone
  23. Hi, I too am sorry that you are going through all this. The second opinion is necessary and if I were in Atlanta I would check out Emory. It is a great place. Many people from this area go there and are very satisfied. Also Duke University is not too far and it is great as well.Praying for us all.TBone
