  3. Hi, I had 15 whole brain radiation treatments and made a couple of posts about the effects it had on me.You can find them in this general forum with a search I think. In short I lost all my hair, sunburned head and ears, loss of appetite and extreme fatigue. But it kept me alive. The tumors shrunk.Good luck to you.Praying for us all.TBone
  4. Hi everybody, We got back from Florida yesterday and had a great time. The fishing trip was fun but we didn't catch a whole bunch. It was both my sons first attempt at fishing in 150 feet of water. They learned a lot and we will be going back.I think we came back with about 40 lbs of grouper and snapper filet which will make for a couple of good fish frys. I am going to my radiation oncologist today to see if he can do something about this terrible leg pain.I sure hope that he can because nothing I have tried will stop it.Tomorrow I go to another doctor to get my chemo port. Can someone tell me what is involved in this procedure. How long does it take and where do they put it?I have no clue. Thanks for any info.Praying for us all.TBone
  5. Hi Tiffany, Welcome aboard.I am sorry about your diagnosis and sorry you had to find us too.I cannot add much to what others have said.Find a second opinion and a good doctor and cancer center and be aggressive about it.Time is important.Keep us posted.Praying for us all.TBone
  6. Hi, I,too,am sorry you had to search for us but I can assure you that you have found the right place. My introduction to lung cancer and stats was on Christmas Eve of last year.I went to the emergency room with severe headaches.A CAT scan revealed 3 tumors to the brain.A neurologist, not a cancer doctor, came in and told the wife and I that I had 30 to 45 days to live and that if he were in my shoes he would go home and enjoy what time I had left.He guessed right that it was lung cancer with mets to the brain.By only looking at the brain mets he made this prognosis.I went home devastated as was my whole family. We decided to at least call a cancer doctor and luckily found a good one.He immediately started whole brain radiation and although it was a terrible ordeal I am here and kicking and ready to start the next round of therapy. It is here on this board that I found the courage and hope that I needed.Stay here and keep posting.Sounds like you have the right doctors.Just never stop asking questions and be aggressive.Love and prayers to you all.TBone

    Pain

A man goes into a dentist office with a terrible abcess. The dentist asks him if he wants novacaine or gas.The man replies that he has to get back to work.Just reach in there and yank it out.the dentist hesitates and tells him that the pain will be unbearable. The man says he is immuned to pain so the dentist reaches in with his pliers and yanks it out.The man doesn't flinch. He gets up to go and the dentist asks him how he got immuned to pain.He says well.I have experienced the most severe pain possible.Twice.The first time I was deer hunting and I had a sudden stomach pain.Had to relieve myself.I undid my coveralls and squatted and got my balls caught in a bear trap. The dentist flinched and bent over and imagined the pain. Then he said when was the second time. The hunter said "when the slack ran out of the chain"
  10. First of all I can't believe that my little sister ate a bull nut.Second of all the festival should be easy to find.Just follow the tears of the bulls. And third.Isn't anything North of the Mason/Dixon "uppa u as".OOOPS.TBone
  11. I worked in the jungles of southern Mexico for a few years and once we woke up to find a 4 foot iquana on a portable cupboard. He would not come down so a friend of mine and I decided to slide the cupboard to the door hoping that he would jump off.He did and went outside peacefully.Problem is when I looked back to slide the cupboard back in place there was a 5 foot boa constrictor on the floor. He had been under the cupboard I guess.I was not comfortable in that house for a long time after that. 13. Rats do not live alone. No telling how many are hiding and laughing because they haven't yet been heard or spotted.I hear they like to play chicken by seeing how many can run across your feet in bed at night without getting caught. Then they switch to running their tails across your face. That is when most get caught.Night.Night.TBone

  16. It sounds to me like you made the same mistake I did. When I was first diagnosed I cried a bunch for just a little bit of time.I finally just got by myself and cried for an hour and I still do occasionally. When the emotions start flowing just let it go.Let it keep flowing.Amazing what tears rid you of.Praying for you.TBone
  17. I just wondered what kind of drugs you two are on and where do I get some?TBone
  18. Hi Curtis, I am so glad to get this update.I have been so upset since her passing.Everytime I look at the photo and think of my daughter it just brings tears.Sounds like you are handling this better than I am.And what a tribute to her you gave in this post.I had no idea about the commute. You both have certainly been an inspiration to me and I thank you for sharing this.Looks like many prayers are being answered as far as the house and move and all goes.I wish you the best and please let us know how y'all are occasionally. You and Katie will be just fine and I know that Becky is so proud of you both.TBone

    Update

Hi, Congrats on the good news.As for the nausea and loss of appetite I can really sympathize with you.I have been that way for almost two months until this past week.My nausea was intermittent but I did not eat anything solid for over 2 months.I lost 30 lbs too.I was making myself drink the shakes and had trouble getting them down.Last week my doctor prescribed promethazine for nausea and megestrol acet for appetite. It could be that it was just time for me to get straightened out anyway but about 3 days after I started on those I was eating and not nauseous any more.Could be just pure timing. Not sure. But it may be worth a try.Praying that you get your appetite back soon.If not at least rid yourself of the nausea and force yourself to eat something. You have to.Take care.TBone
  24. Hi, I am so glad that all our prayers were answered and your surgery went well.I did not have surgery but I did have WBR.I think it was 15 treatments.I was on 6mg/day of decadron to start, then down to 4 then 2 and then to 2 every other day and then to zero.I am still off decadron but if subsequent MRI shows growth I will start back I guess. The radiation really wore me out bad.I hope it does not effect you in the same way or quite as bad.It didn't really bother me until it was all over.About a week after the last treatment is when the fatigue set in.I did loose all my hair during treatment but no other real problems. After the last treatment my head blistered and the tops and insides of my ears blistered bad.I used Swell Cream for that with success.I was just starting to return to normal in about 3 weeks after treatment and I started on more radiation to the chest and that I when my appetite left me.I don't want to be negative at tall.I would not be here if not for the WBR.It did shrink the tumors and relieved my awful headaches, noises, and loss of movement in my fingers.I just want you to be prepared to rest a bunch afterwards if it does you like it did me.I had a sinus problem at the time which I think aggravated my response.I was already really congested when I started and that got worse too. This sounds terrible.I am sorry.I don't feel any of those effects now and I pray that the tumors remain shrunk.Praying for the best for all of us.TBone
