  2. Cheryl,

I wish I had the magic words. Of course, I don't . But one thing that sometimes seems to be working for me is to go ahead and let the monster come up to the first floor. I spend some time with him/her because I know he/she isn't going away. After awhile the monster gets bored and goes back in the basement on its own. I have a feeling that the monster will be with you always, unfortunately. But I bet 20 years from now, Cheryl, that when the monster comes upstairs for the visit, it will look so less scary to you that it won't stay long.

I know exactly what you mean about anything that might be construed as a symptom. That really brings the monster out! One morning before I was totally awake, I thought I was wheezing and paniced. It turned out to be some birds outside my window, lol.

Anyway, get to know your monster. Even monsters have lessons to teach us.

    love always

Sorry don't know, but from all I have read on the board, it sounds very much like what others have experienced.

One thing that gets me is this: As many people who come here asking about side effects, I am amazed. Don't the Doctors or nurses tell patients about side effects?????? I am just stunned that they would give chemo without warning of the possible effects.

There are websites that tell of all the possible side effects of each chemo, too, Jen.

    Good to hear from you.

I bet you that the sisters will make sure you have whatever you want to have. And if you don't feel well enough to "make it" I bet they will be delivering the party to your front door. I have five brothers, the only girl. To me, my brothers got a little annoying, LOL. I bet being the only guy means the sisters get a bit annoying, LOL.

Oh well, such is family love!

I completely understand. I too am in a most horrible HMO situation, and with no prescription coverage. My husband makes too much to qualify for any of the free med programs. I am now pretty much faced with eat or get chemo. So far I have chosen eating.

I thought about suing my previous Doctor for not ordering tests last spring. I didn't have any insurance then, which is probably why she didnt. However, she never told me that there could be something life threatening going on because of some symptoms I had even then. I know she knew. She should have been straight up with me. I was too ignorant and had only went in for a med check, so I wasn't worried about anything. Felt great, etc.

Had something been done then, maybe I would have had a better chance and I certainly would have qualified for medicaid as I was on my own and unemployed.

Count me in your small group--I am armed and ready!

Also be sure to let us know what happens. Do you have a tape recorder. I think that was good advice, that you might consider. You can get those small ones and he won't even know. Most states it's legal.

  10. Great news--even better than last week's news!

Also Ginny: There is a recent post in new treatments about an antibiotic --biaxin that has been through trials in Japan, ( I think) that is supposed to be an anti-Cachectic for late stage lc patients. It doesnt really treat the tumor but does help the fatigue etc associated with cachetia (sp). You might want to ask your onc for a precription for it. Geoff's mom is taking it. There are links on his post that explain it much better than I have just done. But the bottom line is that the med extends life and quality of life.
