Liver mets......help please...

Hi all

I am needing some input and advice (and support!) from you wonderful group of people. Mum was diagnosed with multiple skeletal mets last month and has just completed her radiotherapy for two spinal lesions. We had more bad news last week in that a CT scan has revealed disease progression with the cancer having spread to the liver now (a few smallish spots):cry: . As a result of this, she has been removed from the Tarceva trial she was on (it is not available in Australia on a non-trial basis yet).

Her oncologist basically told her he did not want to offer her any more treatment at all, and referred her to a palliative specialist. Mum still wants to fight and isn't done with this disease yet.

It's been an awful time for all of us, but I would really appreciate any information regarding liver metastases and treatments (alternative or conventional) that might be beneficial. In fact, any information that might be of any help at all would be warmly welcomed. Am feeling rather lost at the moment. I know that you all have so much on already and really appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks

Jana

Thanks for the reply Fay. I had mentioned RFA to Dad. I do think it is available in Australia, so that might be worth looking in to. I was not sure if they would do RFA if she already has brain and skeletal metastases.

As for travelling, I do not think that would be an option at the moment as she is very uncomfortable as a result of either the spinal mets or the radiation (probably both I guess).

Thank you for the suggestions. I really appreciate them. I will mention RFA to Dad again.

Prayers to you too,

Jana

There are some alternative supplements. I sent them on an earlier posting on this site. you will be able to find some websites to check out. Do a word search for alternative on the forum and it will get you there. praying for your mom. pammie

Thanks for the information guys.

I think we are all just very bummed out because when Mum asked her oncologist what treatment he would now recommend for her he said he wouldn't recommend anything

She has an appointment today with a palliative specialist. We are still scouring the internet for any information we can find on things that could help. There are no clinical trials in our city for her to enrol in so that rules that idea out. Am feeling very down in the dumps about all of this now, so appreciate any and all positive thoughts sent our way.

Thanks

Jana

Jana,

You and I and Karen have PM'd already about some of these things, but I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry about the "bummed out" feelings you guys are having. It's no fun and totally consumes a person.

I will be praying for better days ahead for you, Karen, your mum, and your whole family.

Love and hugs,

Peggy

Jana: I am sorry your mom's oncologist is being such a downer. I know others have had liver mets removed and continued with treatment. I hope you find doctors who will help your mom. I have heard good things about the RAF. I have heard that avastin in combination with standard chemo drugs is very promising. You all have my prayers.
