Sam'swifeShirley
Just a short progress report. I'm feeling pretty good right now as it has been 20 days since my last chemo. Of course my next one is tomorrow so there we go again. I saw my radiation oncologist today and she said that she wants a PET scan in about two weeks and if there is no disease anywhere (we still hope and pray) or only a little where my hot supraclavicular node was removed, that we will radiate the field where the node was to get anything that might be left, still aiming for a cure. I'm still a little afraid as she said we could hit "just a little" of my right lung and my right lung is really all I have left that works, and not quite all of it already. I've already resigned that I'll probably be on oxygen for the rest of my life now but certainly don't want it to get any worse. Some of my primary care doc friends and associates are already discouraging me from any more radiation, but they are primary care, not cancer specialists and it's not their cancer or their life. AdaW
Dear Sam, You are right, there are worse things than being on oxygen for the rest of your life. I think of you often and certainly pray for a cure for you and all. Ada
-Cheryl-
Sam, Hang in there for the new round of chemo. I started back this week too. I am curious about something? How come they can put a guard to protect certain organs during radation...And why can't that be used to protect your good lung? Also, how will you esophagus fair during the new radiation to the node? I am with you, you take any and all chances to beat this monster. We are hear to fight with you. Prayers for you are being said now. Guest DaveG
Sam: As I said in the other post, we're side by side, hand in hand, as we walk this walk. I'll even carry your O2 bottle for you.
Donna G
When I read your post I was thinking , some of us have friends with opinions telling us what we should and shouldn't do. It must be very different when many of your friends are doctors who really think they know what you should do. I imagine it has it's advantages and disadvantages. Wish you well with your decision Sam. Donna

kimblanchard
Sam, Going into the next round of chemo is scary knowing it makes you feel so bad. Thank goodness it's the ammunition that you need to get rid of this. Radiation has always been a positive thing for my Bill but everyone is different. I pray for the very best results for you and know you will make the right decision. Blessings to you, Peg
Terrie
Sam- Good to hear from you. Best wishes as you make that decision of what is best for YOU! O2 can be a drag, but I, too, think it's doable! Prayers for your upcoming chemo - may it stomp the heck out of those nasty cells! Terrie
Don Wood
Keep on keepin' on, Sam! You can do it. Don

Fay A.
Hi, Sam, Hope the PET scan shows no cancer.... I'm still on Oxygen, and will probably be on it at least part of the day for the rest of my life. I've named my tank "Igor". I drag it around behind me (I just have the E-series right now), but I'm trying to get the little backback set up. I live in a tri-level house, and carting Igor up and down a flight of steps just to get out of the house is getting old. You're right...being on O2 isn't the worst thing in the world. I'm working on my Halloween Costume right now. I'm going to be Alfred Hitchcock (I suspect that with no hair I shall look most like him) and the tank will be dressed up like either Marvin the Martian, or a green Roman Centurian. Or better yet, I'll be a space station, and the tank can be an astronaut tied to the station by a piece of plastic tubing! Okay...I'll stop now...but if I don't laugh about this I shall surely cry.... Fay A. PS thanks for the info on the drugs. Haven't started chemo yet. Came down with a nasty bug.
