Oh Sam, I was praying that you were mistaken. This is probably an ignorant question but, why can't the node be excised (like tomorrow) and biopsied at the same time (is it a very invasive proceedure?) and chemo restarted before the end of the week? To radiate it seems like it might take a while. I continue to hold you and your family in my prayers. Lynn

Laurie While I'm not an oncologist I would have to agree with you that at this point in your Mom's treatment a yearly scan is not adequate. Maybe someone who has completed treatment for SCLC can help you out here as to the protocol? How about it friends? Lynn

Michele; It sounds like you are going through quite a difficult time right now. From what I have heard recent treatment side effects can mimic the signs of the natural dying process...so I think a physician or nurse would need to do an exam to give you that info. This is just a thought, but you may want to contact Hospice to help make that determination and give you guidance. This doesn't mean you are giving up on your husband recovering...if he gets stronger he could be discharged from their care.They could certainly answer the questions you ask and provide comfort care to your husband and support to you. In any event I would not hesitate to discuss my concerns with the doctor even if it means a phone call before the scheduled appointment(Wednesday seems like a long time to wait). Hi everyone, Just left my Dad in the Hospice ward of the hospital. I kept him at home as long as I could, but I didn't want my 3 children to only remember him during his illness. Plus I thought the nurses there could tend to his comfort better, but he told me he wants to come home My heart is breaking for him tonight...he is so sad.Please remember him in your prayers. I am praying for his peace. Thanks to all of you for always being so supportive. You have been a great source of comfort to me. God bless, Lynn

Laurie, That sounds interesting...I hope someone else knows the answer. The only thing I am aware of is something called "chemoprevention" but I am not sure if this has been developed yet or not. I read about in an article on SCLC which was published about 5 years ago and it was still under investigation. Lynn

Kellyu, Yes, my Dad was told he had only a few months left with the chemo in 1983...and the chemo for this disease is better now. He didn't "do" anything special...all anyone can really do is support, encourage and love the person going through this. It is frustrating because we want to do more... How did his treatment go? Lynn
