  4. Hi Kate, I just wanted to let you know that although my Dad passed away in May from SCLC, he was first diagnosed with extensive SCLC in 1983! I think he would qualify as a long term survivor Also, a close friend of the family is currently six years out from diagnosis. I hope that knowing that there are people who beat the odds gives you some comfort. Best, Lynn

  9. Cathy, My heart breaks for you...having lost both parents to SCLC I can understand what you are going through. It is a definite period of adjustment during which you learn to incorporate the loss of your parent into your life. My Mom truly was my best friend so I felt her loss quite acutely. I was taking care of my Dad and he was living with me...so that lends itself to a different type of grief. Mom has been gone since 1998...despite this length of time I still try to keep her memory alive by talking about her to my children...they feel as if they know her. My Dad has been gone only a few months...and I find myself going into stores and picking out items he would have enjoyed or wanting to ask him to come with us out to dinner or on a vacation I have experienced many times since their deaths when I have felt there presence...so I continue to hope and pray that someday we will meet again, where there is no saddness or disease. I always entertained my Dad for every holiday while my siblings went to their in laws...I already anticipate the upcoming holidays are going to be painful and lonely.Anyone have any suggestions? Cathy I pray that you find comfort during this time of grief...please feelfree to contact me if you want to talk. Hang in there Lynn

  16. Dear Norme, Enjoy the trip...the beaches there are beautiful. Have a safe one... Just a suggestion...you might feel more comfortable on the long drive with a cell phone. If you don't have one, they now come disposeable with a set number of minutes. It just might make you feel more secure... Best wishes, Lynn

    My God...

Dear Fay, I agree with every word you wrote. I do not like to be told no...but I have learned to live with the nos and incorporate them into my life. I often tell my own children no...and my love for them is imperfect. God's love for us is perfect and he thankfully can see the bigger picture! God bless, Lynn

  22. I would go to the local hospital but definitely pursue a second opinion at university of michigan in Ann Arbor. See Dr. Kalekemiam(?sp). Good luck Lynn
  23. Karen, When my Dad had his last go- round with sclc we inquired as to surgery because his mass was located peripherally (not in the middle). We were told that in rare cases surgery can be done with sclc but several criteria must be met ; 1. peripheral lesion 2. no mets 3. no lymph adenopathy Unfortunately, I think it's rare for sclc to cooperate with these criteria( we almost made it as we had the first two). Another important question to ask is whether or not surgery would improve outcome...I believe in the past the answer to this last question has been no...but I may wrong... I'm praying that you don't even need a plan B Best, Lynn
  24. Dear Connie, I hope and pray that your recovery is extra fast!! Please know that you remain in my thoughts and prayers... God bless, Lynn
