  3. Some people get the rash some don't My wife was on it for 6 months before it stopped working. She has been on Etoposide which is now working. Tarcevas biggest issue for us was the rash. Looked like a bad case of ACNE. Don't forget the dry skin. Deb was like a sheet of coarse sandpaper. Use NIVEA In the White bottle or I Think UDDER Cream from Walmart works but we used Nivea. Appetite wa pretty much the usual if you can call it that when you are on Chemo. Those are the main points. Oh Yeah; the rash will disappear if you stop taking the drug and sometimes it will happen before you stop taking it. Good Luck and hope this helps.
  4. Do you know of anyone who could recomend a part-time caregiver? My parents had a person who came in to do things for them until they were well enough to gert about on their own for a while after hospitalizations, when I could not be there for them. Could you check withyour Cancer center or church possibly for trusted individuals who could help for possibly enough time durin gthe day to let you get out of the house? Moms friends possibly? These are thoughts and ideas that I had and Maybe they will help. This person would be able to et you get out of the house for a few hours a day,to do things that you need to do. I Hope this helps and will say aprayer for you. Good Luck
  5. My wife is in the hospital for Clostridium Difficille; known as c.diff. She went to the hospital on 10/13 for a blood transfusion and got it. What happens is everyone has this bacteria in their system. Acids keep it under control. when she got aa dose of primaxin (antibiotic) it wiped out the acids to control this. the c.diff ran rampant after that. gave her a BAD case of Diarrhea and put her in the hospital on Flaggyl and Vancomycin, as well as Sodium Chloride That started on the 16 october. As soon as swelling and fluid retention goes away, she can come home. THAANK GOD!! Its beena long 2 weeks. Luckily her hospital is 5 minutes from work. Good Luck and always praying!!
  6. My wife has been fighting for 2.5 years and a good friend of mine had the surgical removal of a tumour about a year ago. My wife and I smoked, Our friend did not smoke that is what i tell people. This disease does not discriminate and people need to know that. Did Dana Reeve smoke like Peter Jennings did?
  7. I Just thought that you might take comfort in knowing that you are not alone in this situation with a member of the medical profession. I have had similar experiences with my wifes hospitalization Drs. Went to my family dr in order to calm down emotionally and he set me right on things. There is always 1 Bad apple in the bunch. Tell people and get rid of the apple and things will be ok we hope. Good luck and am always praying for us.
  8. My wife has Lung Cancer and she has had shrinkage of her tumor and regrowth of her tumor but no spreading of tumor. Last spring, she had a pericardial effusion done for fluid around the heart. Could barely breathe or move it was so bad. The Fluid around the heart we were told did contain cancer cells but no indication of tumor spread. Onc says everyone has cells in their body and unless these cells get together and form a tumor not everyone has cancer tumors. Does this help?? I do hope so.

    Rascall Flatts

Artist: Rascall Flatts Title: Skin Submit by: Sean Date: 15/08/2005 Hits: 431 Correct Lyrics Sara Beth is scared to death To hear what the doctor will say She hasn't been well, since the day that she fell And the bruise just won't go away So she sits and she waits with her mother and dad And flips through an old magazine Till the nurse with the smile stands in the door And says will you please come with me Sara Beth is scared to death Cause the doctor just told her the news Between the red cells and white, something's not right But we're gonna take care of you Six chances in ten, it won't come back again With the therapy we're gonna try It's just been approved, it's the strongest there is And I think that we caught it in time And Sara Beth closes her eyes. And she dreams she's dancing Around and around without any cares And her very first love is holding her close And a soft wind is blowing her hair Sara Beth is scared to death As she sits holding her mom Cause it would be a mistake for someone to take A bald headed girl to the prom For just this morning, right here on her pillow Was the cruelest of any surprise And she cried when she gathered it all in her hands The proof that she couldn't deny And Sara Beth closes her eyes And she dreams she's dancing Around and around without any cares And her very first love is holding her close And a soft wind is blowing her hair It's quarter to seven, that boy's at the door And her daddy ushers him in And when he takes off his cap They all start to cry Cause this morning where his hair had all been Softly she touches just skin And they go dancing, around and around Without any cares And her very first true love is holding her close And for a moment she isn't scared
  10. LONDON – Oct. 17, 2005 – A new drug used in combination with standard chemotherapy has shown encouraging tumor response in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer, preliminary findings show. Cancer drug developer Antisoma today announced the tentative findings from an ongoing early stage trial of its lead drug, AS1404, for treatment of lung cancer. With initial data available from 47 of the 71 patients enrolled, 43.5 percent of those receiving AS1404 in addition to chemotherapy showed a partial response compared to 33.3 percent of those who received chemotherapy alone. A partial response indicates the tumor was reduced in size by 30 percent or more for at least six weeks. The results also showed that, of the 47 patients analyzed, 8.7 percent of the Antisoma group had progressive disease compared to 33.3 percent of those receiving chemotherapy alone. Progressive disease is defined as greater than a 20 percent increase in tumor size. Dr Mark McKeage of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, one of the principal investigators in the study, said: "These early data are fascinating and very encouraging." The AS1404 lung cancer study is a randomised, controlled, phase II trial being conducted at hospitals in France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Half of the patients in the study are receiving AS1404 plus chemotherapy (carboplatin and paclitaxel) while the other half are receiving chemotherapy alone. Patients in the trial need to be receiving treatment for the first time for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer that has spread or metastasized to other parts of the body. Enrollment was completed in August 2005, and the trial has included patients with both squamous and non-squamous lung cancers. AS1404 belongs to a class of drugs called vascular disrupting agents. These drugs selectively attack tumor blood vessels, giving them broad potential against solid cancers, which depend on their blood supply to survive and grow. Antisoma's lung cancer study is the first controlled trial of a vascular disrupting agent to report evidence of anti-cancer activity. The researchers caution, however, that these results are based on investigator assessments of patient outcomes. The final assessment of tumor response outcomes at the end of the study will be based on independent assessment of patient scans from the trial carried out by a reviewer who is 'blinded' with respect to the treatment each patient received. Results of the independent assessment could potentially differ from those based on investigators' reports. It should also be noted that response rate does not indicate increased survival. These results are too early to be able to draw any conclusions regarding survival results. In addition to the lung cancer study, Antisoma is conducting two other phase II studies of AS1404, in prostate and ovarian cancers. 13. Invest in a good skin creme My wife was like sandpaper because her skin was so dry. Alternate drud might be Etopocide. 20. I fell in love with my wife the first time I saw her in culinary school and married her a year later. That was 8 years ago and I love her as much as the day I married her and she loves me that much too!!! TPBM wants or has a litle red convertible sports car
  21. My wife takes 25 Mg of promthezine as needed, for the nausea even when she was on tarceva, which stopped working after about 6 months. She is now on Etopocide with a 30% reduction in tumour size after 15 weeks. The Promethezine will make you sleepy if you take it and do so before bedtime if possible. The promethezine does work pretty good though. Immodium is the best over the counter that she has found after trying most OTC Nausea Medicines. Hope this helps you out some.

  23. Always keep a positive atitude you have to think that this can be beat. Be supportive. Be a fighter. I do research online before Onc apptmnts. I always think That This can be beaten and cured. There is nothing for my wife and I to fight about and that includes money. We ain't got much but after 9 years of marriage and 2.5 years of fighting the Lung cancer we have each other. We are still fighting this disease. Believe in the power of prayer; I say a prayer every night. I am the caretaker for my wife. I hope this helps even a little bit.
