Karen_L got a reaction from Scruboak in So quiet
It has been quiet here. I check in daily, and hope the quiet spell is because everyone is busy living life.
I have scans Friday and am more nervous than has been typical. On the other hand, we just made plans for a June trip of bicycling the Danube from Prague to Budapest, so I am choosing to think about that (when I can haha.) Otherwise, we've gone all out on holiday decorating and I'm baking up a storm. It's peaceful for now and for that I am grateful.

Karen_L got a reaction from Livin Life in Anyone have a metastasis to the scalp
Kamoto,
NED on your chest and abdomen-- WOW! What a wonderful result.
I don't have experience with a sore that doesn't heal. It reminds me of old TV commercials about when to check with your doctor, which you're doing. May I, with a little gentle humor, remind you of your last foray into self-diagnosis? Not a fun time.
I'm selfishly glad you told us about this-- I've had a weird thing on my arm that I really should get checked out. Ugh. Maybe I need to make an appointment with the dude who did the MOHS surgery on my nose (for some skin cancer.) So, thanks. I hate calling more doctors, really hate. But ya gotta do what you gotta do. So, thanks. And I'll be thinking of you. Please keep us posted.

Karen_L got a reaction from Sallysh in Scanxiety and Next Steps
@GBJ You know, IMO, this "be positive" cancer thing is sometimes more pressure than we need. Just sayin'.
This may seem to be heresy, but it's beyond me how a human can feel positive about something as scary.
We all make peace with our situations in different ways. But I am never positive about lung cancer. I think it's stupid and unfair. When there's a change in my disease, I'm numb. After a little while, I feel a reprise of the emotions I had with my initial diagnosis: I feel angry and frightened and full of grief.
Eventually, I choose to say, "OK, that's how I feel. I see that, and now I'm going to re-examine my day-to-day and see what I might need to do to make a meaningful life within the new parameters." Sometimes things happen quickly enough that I have to juggle feelings and actions at the same time. That's when I go to my primary defense: dark humor in the face of the absolute absurdity of the situation. But all that other stuff is stewing in the background. It's exhausting.
Just take care of yourself in whatever way you need to. Each day, find one thing, anything, that brings you peace or pleasure, or even a laugh. Take a deep breath, take a couple, when you feel afraid. Unless it's helpful to you right now, you don't have to be positive. You just need to cope.
We're here. Keep us posted.

Karen_L got a reaction from TJM in Second scan after treatment Monday, Nov. 20
Dang that durvalumab (Imfinzi). My ground glass (courtesy of the durva and radiation) has slowly disappeared. With the watching they do, it hasn't been a worry for anyone, me included.
Enjoy your precious family time!

Hi, Sue.
What happens if it comes back so soon after treatment? You take the next step. And tell us about it!

Whew. So glad you have a respite. And, I'm really glad that your doc is so on top of getting a lot of eyes on the situation. I always feel better knowing my case usually heads to the cancer center's tumor board before any new phase of treatment.
Hang in,

Karen_L reacted to Blossomsmom in Update
Update to my update below. Pet Scan scheduled for 7:00 am this Saturday then video Doctor visit next Wednesday to review the results. I’m nervous and anxious about both. I’m assuming that if whatever this is lights up, the next step would be an oncology referral and biopsy?
Update to my original post on October 21st regarding the 2.6 cm mixed ground glass and solid nodule in my upper right lung, Apparently the tumor board reviewed the CT scan and recommended I have a PetScan as soon as possible instead of the original recommendation of another CT scan in 3 months. I tried to make the appointment for it this morning but apparently there is some glitch in the order from the Doctor (my PCP) which should be resolved in the next day or so. I will then be able to get the Petscan scheduled. This development has dimmed my optimism and increased my anxiety 10 fold. When my mom was in the same position I’m in in 2018 her (very calm) statement to me was “what will be will be”. Trying hard to adopt that attitude but find it hard to do right now.
Thanks for “listening”. I appreciate it.

Hi Phyllis, and thank you for your great work in raising awareness.
I have compound mutations also, one of which is an Exon 20 point mutation (S768i). I've encountered one other person with this mutation. Luckily my other is garden variety EGFR L858R, for which there are some targeted treatments.
If you have an Exon 20 insertion, you've probably heard about this.
Also, you may already be a part of Marcia Horn's Exon 20 Facebook group. She's amazing. (Because I have a point mutation, I don't qualify. 🤷♀️ ) But you might want to check it out if you haven't already.
Best,
Karen
