    Porta Cath.

The port made everything so much easier for me. I get my flushed about evey two to three months. If it doesn't want to work, they use heperin (SP). I couldn't have made it without the port. The first time they tried to set an I.V. at the beginning of chemo, I was stuck 11 times. That was the end of that. Now it's only one stick and if you have chemo every day, it can be acsessed for up to 5 days I think. Good luck. The only thing I would do differently is to ask for I.V. anesthesia during the procedure to put it in. Not just localized anesthesia. Hope this helps, Jamie
  4. Rich, You are awesome!!!! GOD BLESS!! Jamie

  6. Hi Magic, I have been on Tarceva now for almost a year and have been very fortunate in that it has kept my cancer at bay. This was a first line treatment and I began as soon as raidation and chemo were finished. In comparision to the chemo and radiation, the side effects for me have been minimal. Dry skin that I battle all of the time. Rashes on my arms and face sometimes.(they do go away). Very sensitive skin and very, very dry skin around my extremities. The skin on my fingers will just split open. I have also found that it takes longer to heal those areas. I know this sounds like alot but these are only minor issues. I am just letting you know all of my side effects. People are affected differently as they are with most medicines. So, the side effects that I have may not be the same for someone else. I have found ways to deal with these side effects. Change in diet, fish oil, all-natural and/or organic skin products. So far, it has been very tolerable Hope this helps!! GOD BLESS! Jamie

  14. I have joint pain when I get up in the morning and sometimes when I have ben sitting for a while. I find that my skin is very sensitive to touch, cold weather, chemicals (lotion, alcohol, soaps) The bone on the inside of my elbow of both arms hurt to the touch. In all honesty, I don't know what's from chemo or what's from Tarceva. GOD BLESS!! Jamie

  16. What an awesome trip!!! Besides meeting three of the most wonderful people I have ever met (Bunny, Joanie and Alisa) we had a great time. The press conference went better than great. Journalists from Elle, People, Prevention, Ladies Home Journal and about 8 others were in attendance. I got to tell my story and promote lung cancer awareness. I was told that nothing would be in print for about six months, most likely during lung cancer awareness month. They are supposed to contact me via phone for any other information they may need. I also met Dr. Julie Brahmer from Johns Hopkins (oncologist) and was she ever impressive. She is brilliant!!! She is also a member of WALC and very vocal about lung cancer. We had so,so much fun and I won't ever forget those cab rides. It's nice to be back home with some peace and quiet. I will be adding pics later after I figure out how. For now, I can't wait to see what happens next!!! LOVE YA'LL Jamie
