  1. Thank you so much, Val. wendy
  2. Hello Mike & Welcome. Sorry you had to find us but there are some wonderful caring people here who can answer questions and offer support. My husband had 6 weeks of radiation and also weekly induction chemo during that time. He tolerated it all pretty well until about the 4th or 5th week and then the radiation started to tire him and he had some swallowing problems that I believe are pretty normal. The chemo was a light dose & he tolerated it very well with no nausea or hair loss. The only advice I can offer is to work closely with your mother's radiologist & oncologist and always get their input as to what they feel is the best course for Mom.

  5. So sorry for your loss wendy
  6. Hi there: so sorry you are going through this. Cancer is a hateful disease that I wish they could find a cure for. You don't give us any info on your Dad, age, stage of disease, treatment plan etc. Yes there are miracles & there are survivors and one should always keep hoping (definition of HOPE - Hanging On Praying Expectantly) If the radiologist thinks he's a candidate for cyberknife perhaps you could ask him to do the referral so that your Dad could get in sooner. Just a suggestion, as I have no experience with cyberknife. Anyway I understand your pain & your frustration and you know that the folks on this board will listen to you anytime. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  7. Hi Sonia: so sorry to hear about your Dad. I pray for peace and strength for you Dad, you and your family. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  8. Great tips. I have also heard that if you have a remote keyless entry, leave the keys to the car on your night table. If an intruder tries to get in the house, hit panic on the key chain and the car horn should start honking and scare off any intruder. Don't have keyless entry on my car so can't confirm it works. Maybe one of you can try it and let us know. wendy

  10. While I'm not actually afraid of 'catching it', I no longer drink out of the same glass as I used to do with my husband. Still kiss him though so I'm probably being paranoid about the glass but I quit smoking in 2001 after smoking for 43 years & having cared for my mother with nslc & now my husband I know I damn sure don't want this disease & will do anything to prevent it.
  11. By the way, nystatin can also be added to the indgredients in magic mouthwash and probiotics will also help, check with onc to make sure on probiotics.\wendy
  12. Hello Lynn & welcome. You'll find a lot of supportive & knowledgeable people here who will be able to answer most of your questions. I agree with everything said so far. Once a treatment plan is in place for your husband it would be well worth the effort to get a second opinion at MSK especially since you say you live in the suburbs. If MSK concurs with the treatment plan then you can go forward with confidence in the local doctor. I just am a firm believer in second opinions, especially from a major cancer center. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  13. Hi Barb: sorry to hear of your side effects. My husband was given an rx that the pharmacist compounds. It's made up of Mylanta, Lidocaine & Benadryl. It kinda coats & soothes the mouth & esophageus to make eating & swallowing easier. For the radiation burns to his skin the radiation dr recommended a product called Skin Repair Cream with Olivamine. It's made by Medline & available otc. We picked it up at the pharmacy at the hospital. Hope this helps. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  14. Prayers coming your way for Ray & his family wendy
  15. Big warm hugs coming to you from across the river in Melbourne Beach. God Bless wendy
  16. I picked up some curcumin for my husband to try to help the joint inflammation. He took it for 5 days and thought he noticed some reduction in pain (possible placebo effect.) He went on higher oxycontin yesterday so I really can't say if his pain relief is helped by the curcumin but I took it & am able to notice a difference in my chronic back pain so I'm going to keep us both on it. Cleared it with onc, she says OK to take it wendy
  17. Hi Loretta: sorry to hear of your husband's difficulties. Yogurt is very good especially if he can hold it in his mouth a little while before swallowing it. My husband had the Magic Mouthwash. The doc has to write the rx and then it's compounded by the pharmacist. It's made of Mylanta, Lidocaine & Benadryl. It numbs the mouth & esophageus to make swallowing easier, but I'm not sure if those ingredients cure the thrush. Perhaps someone else can chime in on that. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  18. Welcome. Sorry about your husband's disease but you will find lots of support & information here. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  19. Great News. Congratulations. Here's to 3 more years. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
  20. Congratulations. I'm so happy for your Mom and also for you. My husband is in a clinical trial with tarceva but it's in conjunction with avastin for advanced, unresctable nsclc so I know that's not the info you're looking for, but it's great news tht she's come this far. Good Luck & God Bless wendy
